first stop: Ireland

July 23, 2009

Madrid has spent 10 days or so in Ireland as part of the pre-season.  So off they went in their matching outfits (thank goodness for that, because some of these players cannot dress) for a little training in the cold and rain (we like wet footballers).  But that means we got to see their cold weather practice gear, and I love the jackets!  I love the thick stripe on top.  It appears all the players are getting along really well, if the smiles are anything to judge by.  We got to see the players work with weights, take strolls around the grounds, play golf, and Cristiano trying his hand at hurling.  Oh, and they played a warmup game too.

It’s also great to see Van Nistelrooy and Diarrá back!  And I never noticed that Miguel Palanca has a tattoo right below his left knee…  Several other canteranos were present at the training camp, I really hope some of them have the opportunity to stay and play for Madrid!

I also hope Miguel Torres will stay with Madrid – he is obviously committed, having given up part of his vacation to return early to training.  Let’s hope that gesture is noticed and appreciated.  The fact that he is ridiculously good looking won’t matter to the cuerpo técnico but it does for me, so partially for that reason, I hope he says.
