in case you missed it – the la roja hugs edition

In case you missed it – Barcelona vs. Real Madrid [2009-11-29].

Although they lost, Real Madrid put in a good performance, much improved from the last several outings.  At times, they actually looked like a team out there.  And Barça won by a minimum.  But the best moment for me came even before the game started, when the players were standing in the tunnel waiting to go out on the pitch.  One by one, the Barça players who are on the Spanish national team come by and greet their teammates from Madrid.  So we have Busquets, Puyol, Piqué, Iniesta and Xavi hugging Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos, Albiol and Iker (Xabi Alonso was standing too far back for me to see what he was doing).  If I were a sports photographer, these would be the types of moments I’d capture.

More screencaps and thoughts below…

And later, we find out that even the Madrid players who weren’t called up for the game either because of injuries or the coach’s decision traveled to Barcelona.  This just shows that we really do have a team (now if they can only play like one).
