well worth waiting for…

February 22, 2010

What a game!  Six goals scored, and a superb effort from Cristiano Ronaldo – this could be his best game in the Madrid white to date.  As the cover of Marca today said, Cristiano scored the first goal, assisted in the third, helped out in the fourth, created the fifth and provoked the sixth.  He also had some near-misses and made a few passes that could have resulted in goals as well.  And he dedicated his first goal to the people of Madeira, his birthplace, after the island suffered damages and deaths from flooding.  How sweet.  Poor Diego López, having to face that.  And while we’re on the subject, Senna’s goal was spectacular – poor Iker ended up with a face full of net.

There wasn’t a private special Kaká-Cris goal celebration in this game though…

And congratulations to Xabi Alonso, for scoring his first goal as a Real Madrid player.  And, he shaved!  I think that was partially responsible for the victory…

Now will a certain newspaper stop calling for Pellegrini’s head?  We’ve seen before that changing coaches causes instability and demoralization.  It’s ridiculous that Madrid has had ten coaches in ten years.  And besides, the coach is not the only one responsible for a team’s performance, but since I guess you can’t really fire any players, the coach is the one that gets blamed.  And some coaches have not been given enough time in the past.

I would like to end on a positive note… Iker looked good out there last night (physically, I mean).  He sported a black shirt and black shorts, so we were not subjected to that orange disaster.  And that beard, while I’m still not entirely convinced, does make him look manly…  you can’t help but want to touch it when you see it.
