meet the canteranos – Marcos Alonso

March 3, 2010

Marcos Alonso Mendoza is Spanish, and plays left back for Castilla.  He is the grandson of Real Madrid legend Marquitos (Marcos Alonso Imaz), and the son of Marcos (Marcos Alonso Peña), who played for Racing, Atlético and Barcelona.

As Marcos was growing up, he was a fan of both Madrid (for his grandfather) and Barcelona (for his father), but as soon as he signed with Madrid when he was 12, and through the influence of his grandfather, his only love became Madrid.  His references as a left back are Filipe Luis and Marcelo.

Marcos III got called up for Madrid’s game against Valencia in December, although he has yet to make his official debut.  During the trip to Valencia, he felt supported by all his teammates, especially Drenthe, who was sitting next to him and talked a lot with him.  When Marcos debuts, he will wear #28, in honor of the day of his birthday.

Marcos also knows Sergio Canales well, as both are from Cantabria.  Maybe they’ll be teammates on Madrid down the road!
