Zidane at El País

Zinedine Zidane gave an interview to El País the other day, and these are for me the most interesting parts of the article.
– Zizou, despite being offered whatever position he wanted at Madrid, has preferred only to be involved in special cases and always for free.
– since retiring, his time is dedicated to his family, his friends, several commercial sponsors and charities – he is the spokesperson for the European Leukodystrophy Association in France (remember these stamps?)
– Zizou says he played football not to earn money, but because he thought he could never do anything else. And football gave a lot back to him too. Now, the only thing he wants to do is teach others what he learned.
– his reference has always been Enzo Francescoli. He’s always wanted to be Enzo, for his nobility, work ethic, strength… Zidane says even now, when they speak, he feels that they’re not equals, that he still looks up to him.
– with regards to Cristiano, Zidane says he’s a good kid and a good worker who arrives at Valdebebas at eight in the morning to start working and doesn’t leave until six hours later.
By the way, the hardest part about writing this post was deciding which picture to use. I can’t be the only one who thinks Zizou is extremely attractive and photogenic, right? In the end, I chose a photo that is three years old but one that I have always loved.
