in case you missed it – the remontada edition

In case you missed it – Madrid vs. Sevilla [2010-03-06].

Well, those Real Madrid boys really know how to keep their fans in suspense, no?  If hospitals in Spain report an increase in the number of patients with heart problems this weekend, well, we’ll know who to blame.

Match are reports here, here and here (in Spanish), and here and here (in English), so I won’t bother to repeat anything written there.  Instead, I’ll write about my personal observations from the game – you probably know by now that those focus more on the players and less on the football!

One.  Marcelo’s new hairstyle!  How come none of the reporters after the game asked him about it?  Instead, we have the usual spiel about the game, Madrid’s attitude, etc.  If I were a reporter, the first thing I’d ask him is why he changed his hairstyle, where he got the inspiration from, and if he thinks it had anything to do with the outcome of the game.  And, if we can expect any more changes this season!

I think it’s obvious we need some more female sports journalists – I volunteer.

Two. Poor Iker. By virtue of his position as goalkeeper, he can almost never celebrate with his teammates.  And this time, there was no one left on his end of the field for him to hug.  I think they should bring someone down from the stands to celebrate with him.  Again, I volunteer.

Three. We also got to see Rafa van der Vaart doing his best Cristiano/Pipita shirt removal goal celebration impression.  Tip for all Madrid players:  next time, for your female fans, please remove ALL layers of clothing.  That goes for you too Sergio – lifting your shirt up and allowing us to get the tiniest glimpse of your tummy is not enough!  As for your actual goal celebration, well, the first part was a nice gesture (making a V for the prisoners at Valdemoro, whom he recently visited), and the second part, shown below, was quite strange – you told La Sexta that it was “para un amigo” but based on your actions, I would say it’s more likely that it was “para una amiga.”

Four. I love the fact that Madrid celebrated like the piña that they are, and especially the detail of Arbeloa running on the field to celebrate with his shin guards in hand.

Five. I just like this picture of Cristiano – very Matrix-like, no?

Six. How many football players does it take to place a flag on the field correctly?  Three, apparently.

Seven. Let us have some fun, Real Madrid!  Why do you make Sergio Ramos cover up when he finally takes off his shirt?  However, I do admit that doing an interview on national TV without a shirt on wouldn’t look too good.

So, in conclusion, líderes, a very happy 108th cumpleaños for Madrid and now for otra remontada against Lyon!
