things to look forward to…
Ok, ranting time is over.
The shock has worn off and I’ve begun to accept the fact that the only championship we’re going for this year is la Liga. One of the reasons I started this blog back in July was because I thought that this season would be one to remember, and I wanted to keep a record of how that felt as it progressed.
Now we know that championships (plural) will not be forthcoming. So what do we have to look forward to? Here are some of the things on my list at the moment, based on what happened recently. Anyway, as you know I don’t take things too seriously – my blog focuses less on the football and more on the players, so no matter what, I’ll have a lot to write about.
la Liga
– now we can concentrate all our efforts on la Liga. We’ve seen some brilliant games played there. Also, less games played means less chances to get injured right? This is especially important with the World Cup coming up – I’ll be cheering for Spain, and about 20% of la selección is made up of Madrid players.
Cristiano Ronaldo
– wow, he’s in top form, isn’t he? I just wish the players around him were as consistent as he is and are able to help him out more. He must be frustrated when he has to do things alone. In any case, I think there will be a lot more goals, and shirtless opportunities, this season.
the team
– we have talent, and as time goes on, the players will learn how to play together. Of the line-up we fielded against Lyon, seven players were new ones – acquired in the last two years. This team will need time to begin playing like a team, and it can only get better, right?
money saved for new purchases
– according to this article in AS, Madrid will save about €5 million by crashing out of the Champions at this point. When Madrid signed players like Benzema, Kaká, Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa and Garay from their previous teams, they agreed to pay those teams bonuses depending on how far they (Madrid) got in the Champions League. And the team also won’t have to pay the players for winning both the CL and the Liga. Money saved equals money for new purchases!
continued dodgy fashion choices
– a loss in the Champions League doesn’t mean that players will alter their fashion choices, meaning they’ll continue to give us the bad and the ugly. For example, this is Iker at yesterday’s press conference. The pants and shirt totally don’t match. And I feel like going to his house and taking his white sneakers collection hostage. I’m kind of glad that Madrid-wear is now mandatory at press conferences, because the players look good from the waist up, but it deprives me of seeing how they express themselves via fashion (and subsequently making fun of them).

more sleep
– less events on Madrid’s schedule means less things to read about, so I can get more sleep!
