If you want to have nightmares tonight, go ahead and watch the videos here.

I dare you.

Then come back here and keep on reading…

Apparently, these sketches are part of a campaign by Spanish beer producer Mahou to promote the idea of a bufanda (scarf) for all fans, regardless of what team they support.  This scarf represents sportsmanship, passion for football and clean play.  And they got Iker and David Villa (or rather likenesses of them) to promote this.

Good idea, but poor execution because I find the puppets quite scary looking, plus David’s extremely high voice and Iker’s extremely low voice are slightly grating.  However, the creators get credit for the facial hair situation – David’s soul patch and Iker’s beard are spot on.  Also spot on is Iker’s outfit, which has his style written all over it (it might even be better than his normal clothes – how sad would that be, if Iker’s puppet dresses better than him?)  I also think David looks more like another David – David Bustamante, the Spanish singer, than himself.  And anyone who has seen David Villa knows that he’s just not that animated in real life.

But the plot is cute.  My favorite video is the second one – I like the part where Villa ribs Iker for knitting with his gloves on, and Villa tells Iker that he has cities named after him, such as “Villadolid” or “Villarreal” (as opposed to a street – the calle de la madre que parió Casillas, which Mahou promoted during Euro 2008, and what Iker wanted to sew on the bufanda).

What do you think?
