In case you missed it – Mallorca vs. Real Madrid [2010-05-05].
One. As I said before, Cristiano is worth every single penny that we paid for him. So many times this season, he’s been the only on the field with any actual desire to win. We need more players like him.
Cris agrees with me, see?
This game saw Cristiano’s first hat trick with Madrid. Meanwhile, his 25 goals and Pipita’s 26 are two shy of tying the record for most goals by a duo in a season, currently held by the partnership of Messi (23) and Eto’o (30), set last season. They are one shy of tying the Real Madrid record, which belongs to Hugo Sánchez (38) and Martín Vázquez (14) from the 89-90 season.
Two. Iker’s outfit. In case you missed my previous post dedicated to this subject, Iker was decked out in an orange shirt, white shorts, and yellow socks. This was in addition to the other colors already on his body, including the color of his body.
During the pregame minute of silence, he really stuck out. Can you spot him? It shouldn’t be too hard.
Three. If Cristiano was the man of the match, then Arbeloa was the teammate of the match. He managed to be the first to hug the goalscorer in each of the four goals. Not an easy feat!
Four. The bench players enjoyed Cristiano’s goal, when they weren’t looking bored (or covering their noses). They seemed to have had a lot of fun during the game, from Guti’s emotional appeals to Diarrá’s “gas” problems.
Five. Someone else who also had a lot of fun, including with Madrid’s players, if you watched the video in number four, was Dimonió, Mallorca’s devilishly adorable mascot!
Six. Cristiano and Higuaín rolling around on the ground. Need I say more?
Seven. Cristiano kept the ball from the game. It was Arbeloa who took the ball after the game and gave it to Cristiano, while he was talking to La Sexta after the game. (That’s what the teammate of the match does!!) The rest of the team signed the ball: Sergio wrote, “It was due to my passes,” because Cris’s first two goals came off of Sergio’s passes, while Xabi wrote, “a hat trick for the Liga.”
