Dudek at Marca [2010-06-12]
Marca has an interview with Jerzy Dudek in today’s edition. As you all know, we’re waiting to see if Jerzy will stay one more year with Madrid.
Here are the highlights!
Q: What is your opinion on the arrival of Mourinho?
A: It’s good for Real Madrid, we needed it. It’s a shame that Pellegrini left because he did great things in the short amount of time he had. But you have to adapt to what is coming, and if that’s Mou, well, that’s great for everyone. It’s great for the team because we can benefit from his experience, especially in how to play during important games.
Q: You had to face him when you were playing in Liverpool, what do you remember about his Chelsea?
A: His teams were always very strong, with a lot of personality, and every one of his players knew his role and what to do on the field. They’ve very good tactically. I think that’s good for Copa del Rey or Champions League games, where you have to plan very carefully.
Q: Were you surprised by the change?
A: In Madrid, it’s complicated for everyone when the team is not winning. Pellegrini did well, even though he had a lot of new players and not a lot of time. But that was a decision made by the directors.
Q: People talk a lot about the players that Mou wants to bring in, how will they fit in with the current team?
A: We have a great team now, but the best thing about Mou is that he makes his teams a family. I remember that in Chelsea, they always talked about this, that people worked together, that the name and number weren’t important. I think Mou’s best virtue is that he makes everyone see that the team comes first.
Q: Are you excited to put yourself at his disposal?
A: I don’t think there is any player that wouldn’t want to work with Mou.
Q: We already know what kind of goalkeepers Mourinho likes, does Dudek fit with the profile?
A: They’re usually tall, but that also depends on the league, because it’s not the same in England, Italy or Spain. They’re three different championships. I don’t think it’ll be a problem if I stay with the club.
Q: So, we can count on Dudek in the upcoming season?
A: I’m very happy to hear that I’m wanted here. I’ll know what’s going to happen shortly. I think I’m going to stay another year, but I’m not sure.
Q: And do you think the arrival of Mourinho gives you a higher chance of staying?
A: I don’t know, I think I have the same chance with or without him, but I hope to continue here, because I can learn a lot, and that’s important for me as well.
