Sergio Canales is presently in Madrid, but not with Madrid – he’s been called up for the U-19 national team and is training with them at Las Rozas.  In mid-July, he’ll play for Spain in the European Under-19 Football Championship.  But before that, he took the time to talk with Marca (the picture is from AS, of his arrival at Barajas).

By the way, Madrid has communicated to Racing that they want Sergio for the 2010-11 season.  Welcome Sergio!

Q:  Were you able to recharge during your vacation after such as a special season?

A:  The only football-related matter I wanted to know about was how the national team was doing, nothing more.  I’ve watched all the games, and had a horrible time watching the Paraguay game.  I’m sure we’ll watch the game tomorrow in Las Rozas, let’s see if we win.

Q:  You needed to disconnect from football.

A:  Yes, my vacation was different this time.  Before, I went with friends, now I know that I’m always going to be thinking about what will come during the next season.

Q:  Have you spoken with anyone from the club these days?

A:  No, I disconnected completely and I haven’t spoken with anyone.

Q:  How do you see your adaptation to Madrid going?

A:  It doesn’t usually take me long to adapt to a team or a city.  I’m an open person.  I’m sure that being with all of these great footballers, the best in the world, will make everything easier.

Q:  One year ago, you didn’t even have a fixed spot in Racing and now you’re going to play for Real Madrid.  What changes have there been in this year?

A:  I’ve matured physically and psychologically.  I’m maturing both inside and out, from everything that’s happened to me.  In Real Madrid, I’m going to learn from point zero, from how to get on the team bus, things like that.  That’s what I have in mind.
