following Real Madrid…

Sergio in Senegal

Sergio’s already doing all kinds of good deeds in Senegal!  And looking adorable while doing so!

He visited Pout, and hundreds of children, most of them wearing a special shirt made for the occasion with Sergio’s face on it, greeted him, along with drums.  Sergio visited the UNICEF center there which houses a nutrition program and a center for mothers and babies.  Sergio helped to weigh an  newborn child, fed some other babies and administered some vaccinations.

Sergio expressed his happiness at being able to cooperate with the organization to help the people of Senegal.  He was also pleasantly surprised by his popularity there, both as a Real Madrid player and as a recent World Cup winner.  He said, “I’m happy to be here and help you all with my presence.  I hope your living conditions get better quickly.”

Then it was on to Kayar, where Sergio and his brother René were touched to hear that a mother had named her newborn twins…. Sergio and René.  Both of them held the babies for a few moments (that’s Sergio and Sergio on the left!)

The next stop was Keur Abdou Ndoye, where Sergio reassured the staff of UNICEF that he was perfectly comfortable with how the trip was progressing, and that the multitude of hugs he was receiving did not bother him.  He insisted that he wanted to see everything, to know everything and to have contact with children.  How sweet is Sergio?

Sergio will be in Senegal for a couple more days.

By the way, PLAN said they have no plans to do anything with Iker this summer, after Iker traveled to Peru with them in 2008 and Mali in 2009.

PS – If you take the pictures/words from this post or any other post, please give Marca (in this case) and me (in all cases) credit.  We both work very hard to provide you with news about Madrid!
