In hindsight, it’s great that none of our players participated in the World Cup with France, no? Otherwise, they would have been part of that implosion.
Anyway, since neither Benzema nor Lass was on the World Cup team, both have been called up (along with a bunch of names I don’t even recognize) by Laurent Blanc for France’s friendly against Norway in Oslo on Aug. 11.
Meanwhile, four of Spain’s players – Iker, Arbeloa, Xabi and Sergio (with Albiol still recovering from an injury) – will play Mexico on the same day in Mexico DF. The good thing for them is that they won’t have to travel far, since they’re already in that part of the world, and the idea is to have them join up with the team in Mexico rather than return to Spain and then fly back out again.
The date is a bit awkward for most clubs, as it’s either smack dab in the middle of the pre-season or at the tail-end of vacation. That includes Madrid, which is scheduled to play Bayern Munich in Munich on Aug. 13 in a friendly match.
The world cup just ended, why are they having internaional friendlies one month later. The things FIFA does makes no sense. Honestly none of our boys better get hurt.
It is just adorable that on every ST pictures taken after the final, Sergio Ramos holds the cup one way or another. He has such a grip on it. “Let go of the cup… Let go!!”. I totally understand though, it must be so unbelievable. Sweet Sergio 🙂
