AS has an interview with Madrid’s two new Spanish signings, Pedro León and Sergio Canales out in today’s edition. Here are the highlights:
Q: What has captured your attention the most in the locker room?
Canales: Every person. From the outside, you don’t have time to watch and observe them, but when you get here and work with them, every person surprises you in a different way. Maybe it’s the speed and strength of Cristiano, Higuaín and Benzema, or the impressive crosses of my friend Pedro…
Pedro León: what I like the most is that there is a great team and grand persons. All of them hope to have a great season. And since you know that the best players of the world are here, you’re not surprised when you see what they can do.
Q: Sergio, what characteristic would you single out about your teammate Pedro León?
Canales: his skill at eluding defenders and the passes that he gives.
Q: And you Pedro, what do you like most about Sergio?
Pedro León: Sergio’s a great player, even though he’s very young. I’ve been very surprised by his mobility and the fact that he’s always helping out his teammates.
Q: What is your reaction to being the Spanish signings of this season?
Canales: It’s a source of pride. It’s something that has always defined the style of Real Madrid. The desire of those who come from Real Madrid and that contributed by the people who come from outside.
Q: You have teammates who have won the Golden Ball, such as Cristiano. What’s he like?
Canales: I didn’t even think about him, because I don’t like to judge a person until I meet them. On the field, he always helps me out, and gives me a lot of advice, and off the field, he’s just another guy.
Pedro León: he’s the most normal person in the world. The important thing for us is that he’s comfortable on the field, because he’s going to help us a lot. As a footballer, there’s nothing Sergio nor I nor anyone else can say, because we all know what he is capable of.
Q: And what’s it like training with the five champions of the world?
Pedro León: it’s an honor for us to work with them, and for all of Spain to have them. They’ve given us a World Cup. Having teammates at that level is satisfying. We also like having teammates who have won the Golden Ball award.
