quote of the day – Sergio Ramos

August 26, 2010
tags: ,

Sergio, reacting to Mourinho saying that he would be one of the first choices to become the emergency goalkeeper:

I told him that I would have no problem whatsoever with putting on the gloves, and that I would try to work hard to take Iker’s starting position away from him.

But rest assured Iker fans, Sergio was just joking about the second part!  Video’s here (thanks LaBlanca!).

In any case, if the need arises (and fingers crossed it won’t, ever), Sergio confessed that when he was a kid, he played as the goalkeeper during neighborhood football games, and that he enjoyed it.

It looks like Iker needs to take Sergio glove shopping…

Update: from today’s training session – I guess we’re not the only ones that like to look at Sergio’s muscles!  Sergio was caught flexing his biceps during the session, either for himself or for one of his teammates!  Marcelo maybe?  (He probably said to Sergio, Cristiano has bigger guns than you, and Sergio wasn’t too pleased.)

See? I knew all that extra hotness came from being a goalie at some point! Absolutely scrumptious 😀

Ahhhh, super gracioso, ¿no? He has such a great sense of humor.

I kind of hope we get to see him in goal, at least in training videos if nothing else, just because imagining the awesome is not enough.

aww so cute 🙂 ..”Imagining the awesome” is asking too much of us, I think. I also think we three are the leading Sexio fans on here, ¿no?

LOL!!!! I couldn’t directly reply to your post using my phone so I had to wait until I got home; I’ve been waiting all day to let that out! “Sexio” hahahahahaha that’s gold! We should initiate the ‘Official Sexio Ramogasm Fan Club’ 😀 any ideas when would the organized sessions of worshipping should be?

Indeed, I think we are! And I would be more than happy to join the “Official Sexio Ramosgasm Fan Club,” because, well, how could I not?

Organized sessions of worshipping… hmm… obviously game days, but that just doesn’t seem like enough! A matter for further consideration.

I don’t like this much talk about emergency goalkeepers! I would ONLY like to see a video of Sergio as a goalkeeper in training or a charity match just for the laughs and amusement. I don’t want to get a heart attack watching an outfield player playing in goal in an official match, just the thought of it happening in a champions league match makes me sick!

Training as a goalkeeper is one thing but playing in a real game is totally different – the pressure is immense! Just look at the faces of outfield players who played as goalkeepers in youtube and you will see what I mean 🙂

Oh and I don’t want anything to happen to Iker of course; no injury, no red card!

Personally, I’d use a much raunchier word to describe El Ramos, but for now I’ll agree with you and settle for “cute” because indeed he is!
Important question: what is he saying?!

its about that Mou wants him to train as goalie for emergency, he says what Una has written already, that hes done it as kid in former teams and liked it. When Mou asked him, he replied that he doesnt have a problem with that and then hes joking that he will do his best to quit Ikers position 😉 Hehe!!! You must love him!

Thanks for clearing that up LaBlanca!
And muchas gracias Jennifer! Lol I should seriously take some Spanish lessons, you never know when hunky Ramos could walk down the street one day, you gotta communicate with the man not just drool! (not that he’d ever walk around here lol..)

Allow me to whip out my Andalusian-to-English translating skills for your benefit, ladies:

English: “He was discussing it with me, and he asked me, and when I was little, in my neighborhood, in the “pachanguillas” [little games, not really competitive] that we used to have, I would be the goalkeeper, and I liked it a lot. And he mentioned that it had happened to one of his other teams before and that, if by chance Iker gets hurt sometime, or he’s made all the [allowable] changes and the keeper somehow gets sent off; and I told him that I don’t have any problem with it. I’ll put on the gloves and try to hang on and reach the best level and take Iker’s spot away!”

oh, thank you so much!!!! Although you did it for somebody else but I also greatly enjoyed reading your transcription and listening to Sexio’s voice!!:) At least I could make out what he was saying.:)

Whoops, I think I added “intentar aguantar” from stopping it too many times and getting confused… sorry about that!

He sounds tired more than anything, because he says something like “mejor rivel” (which doesn’t make sense), then corrects himself to “mejor nivel” (best level) – it’s kind of cute :-p

Haha I would actually like to see him in goal, but not in a real REAL game. I am worried about the amount of pressure my baby is going to be in. And if he concedes then he’s going to be the scapegoat, and I don’t wan’t that for my boy.

But I like that J.M has faith in Sergi, and it shows what a versatile player he is.

Hopefully no red card for Iker or injuries to both keepers! But I did see it happen in the last UEFA World Cup where Turkey’s goalkeeper, Demeril, got a red card. And Demeril had to take off his jersey and gave it to another guy on the team who had to put on the goalkeeper jersey!

    Can anyone help me out?

Una, and do you happen to know and what this letter M stands for?

        • August 29, 2010 06:11

I wish I did, but unfortunately I don’t…. and unfortunately my name doesn’t begin with “M” either!
