random news…
I can’t believe there’s another game tomorrow; the schedule is frenetic! It’s like a marathon! As is usual before game days, there’s not much news about the team, since the training sessions are closed to the public.
But we do know that Sergio Canales was not called up for tomorrow’s game against Espanyol. He injured himself in yesterday’s training session – as he was controlling the ball with his chest, he turned and his right ankle gave way. He’ll have further medical tests today, but at first glance it looks like he’ll be out two to three weeks, which means he’ll miss the next four jornadas in the Liga and the next Champions League game. He might also miss the U-21 Euro playoff, in early October. However, he will be back in time when Madrid takes on his former team Racing.
Update: the MRI shows that Sergio C. has a sprained right ankle, and he’ll be out for three weeks. At the hospital yesterday, he said the ankle wasn’t swollen, but that he was in a lot of pain. ¡Pobrecito!
And now some other, random news:

Peter Lion headed to Cibeles yesterday, unfortunately not for a celebration, but because it was the ending point for the Vuelta de España cycling race, in which his brother Luis León was participating. Louis Lion finished tenth overall.
And Marca had an article about the pandillas that have formed inside the locker room of Real Madrid, and most of them appear to be formed around a common language/nationality. The three Portugueses hang out with the two Brazilians, the Spaniards (A-team, Peter Lion and el Pirata) are another group, and the same goes for the two Frenchmen, and the two Germans.
But there is also another group, called the pandilla de parchís, which is made up of two players who kill time during the concentraciones by playing digital parchís. This one might surprise you. Anyone want to guess who the two players are? I’ll update the post with the answer tomorrow!
The answer is: Sergio Canales and Ángel di María. For those of you wondering what parchís is, look here. Digital just means they play the game on a computer rather than on a board.
Oh, and also according to Marca, Mou went through ten sticks of gum during the Real Sociedad game.

Una, thanx a lot for this post! Can’t wait until tomorrow to know who these two parchis players are! But I’d be very grateful if you also explained what this game is all about.:)
You mean the two players with their “original” styles?
Ramos and Benzema?
Arbeloa and Pepe?
Ramos and Ronaldo?
Marcelo and Ozil?
Iker and di Maria?
Alonso and Ramos?
I don’t think I got it 😛
Hmm…I’ll see the update tomorrow haha!
Oh, and also according to Marca, Mou went through ten sticks of gum during the Real Sociedad game.
Never change Mou. Una’s random updates > life
hehe louis lion
and the argies are another pandilla? who do pipita and dimari hang out with?
Pipita with Garay, and Di María with Gago.
Are Spaniards Iker and Sergio also part of the A-Team?
No, because the A-team is what I call the Spaniards whose last names begin with “A”… Sergio is part of the four musketeers though, and Iker… well he doesn’t seem to be part of any group, but that might be because he’s the captain.
Get well soon, Canales!
Good to see Peter Lion supporting his brother. 🙂
I think some of the Argentines like to stick together, too, haha. I really like that some of the players are such good buddies, but sometimes I wonder if we’re too clique-y for our own good. There’s familiarity in common languages and backgrounds, though, so I understand it.
I’ll guess that Álvaro is one of the players who plays… digital anything, actually. 🙂 But maybe it’s someone you haven’t mentioned already… hmm…
Shame about Canales, hopefully he has a speedy recovery and people can stop with the ankle (and other!) injuries already (I’m going to have nightmare’s featuring Messi’s ankle for weeks, and I’m not even a culé!). I can’t help but think that this hectic game schedule isn’t really going to be good for anyone. 😦
Hmm… pandilla de parchís. I’m going to guess that one of them is Sergio, because he’s bragged about his skills with parchís in the past. No idea who the other one could be…
But who do the Argentines hang with?! I need to know these things! (I’m guessing with each other or with the Spaniards, based on the rest of the divisions.)
Oh poor Canales! I hate ankle injuries, they’re the worst! They just scramble you mentally (well hopefully less if you’re cared for by professionals).
It’s understandable why the players would form cliques and gel with people who speak the same language, but I really hope they’re not too distant from each other off the pitch. The most entertaining group has got to be the Portuguese/Brazilian group, I mean come on, Marcelo right? 😀
Hmm..someone we wouldn’t expect to play games?..Has to be Iker and..Lass? OR! Pipita and Xabi? Oh I don’t know, please tell us!! 😀
“Mou went through ten sticks of gum” lol! It sounds like this habit should be regarded as some sort of addiction. Never mind betting on the score, let’s bet on how many sticks of gum Mou consumes each game! 😀
I hate that it’s going to be the latest match, I probably have to watch it online and work at the same time or try not to fall asleep.. That ketchup bottle better explode at some point tomorrow or I will snap my set square in half while I’m working.. (yeah that’s pretty much the extent of my pathetic angry side).
Ohhh Canales and Angel? I was..close 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Una!
hmmmm I’m guessing Xabi and Arbeloa (I’m probably way off…)
What the hell is the digital parchis thing???
hi! have you seen this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxSR1jimOjs
Could you possibly translate it if you have time? It looks so funny, but i have no idea what it says =(
It’s a bit difficult to translate, since there is some play on words of Spanish words, so if you translate them, it loses the meaning. The first part is Özil not understanding Mou’s directions, and throwing out random Spanish words. So Mou says he won’t train him until he learns how to speak Spanish. Sergio Ramos offers to help him out. The next time Mou sees Özil, he’s speaking Spanish just like Sergio, because it turns out he’s just mouthing the words and Sergio is providing the actual voice. Mou discovers the ruse and says neither will play in the next game.
ah thank you! that’s so cute.
Oh, that did surprise me! Aww. Now that Sergio (Canales) is injured, Ángel won’t have anyone to play with. Maybe someone else will step up. 😛
what bout David Mateos? It seems like he would hang out with Canales and Pirata because of their youth??
Good question. I wonder, too. I recall seeing him walking with Adán in a couple of those airport arrival videos the official site posts. Maybe they hang out?
Oooh I know that game! In my language it’s called Čovječe ne ljuti se (man, don’t get mad :D). I didn’t know you could play it on a computer. Anyway, it’s a great game.
That Peter Lion has certainly won me over. That hair is so sweetly fluffy.
