in case you missed it – the “feo” edition
In case you missed it – Real Madrid vs. Espanyol [2010-09-21].
As Crackòvia Cristiano said the other night, “míster, es muy feo.” He could have been referring to this game as well, or even the field at the Bernabéu.
One. Since I’m taking the title of the post from the brilliant Crackòvia, I thought I’d start with a comparison between the two Cristiano Ronaldos. Not much difference, no?

Two. And of course, we have to mention that goal celebration. I’m assuming that Cris sucking on his thumb was a tribute to his new son. In that case, I understand now why he was so anxious to score! And he looked so happy too! It was great seeing that smile back on his face, and seeing his teammates so happy for him as well.

Three. It was a good night for our forwards, since they managed to put one each into the net. Pipita got a kiss from Álvaro Arbeloa as a reward, and of course Karim resorted to his favorite gesture/pose to celebrate. I loved how Pipita was subbed out just after he scored, so that he could get a nice round of applause!

Four. I love acrobatic Iker! This makes me want to take him to the playground.

Five. I can’t even remember those days when Pepe had no hair and Marcelo just had stubble. And of course, we can’t talk about hair without mentioning a certain Sergio Ramos, so here is Sergio ruing a missed goal.

Six. The Mourinho section. First up: quote of the game. This one goes to his statement that “it’s not easy to play on a field of potatoes.”
If you were watching the TV feed of the game, it only took one minute and five seconds for the camera to focus on Mou and his gum chewing. We didn’t get to see too much of him during the game, which must mean he didn’t throw any tantrums (or water bottles) this time, though he was of course his usual expressive self. Maybe he’s telling the boys to hurry up and close out the game, because he only has three sticks of gum left?
Bonus pic of Mou winking here.
Seven. Did you notice that when Álvaro checked into the game, he immediately ran directly to Xabi to give him the coach’s orders? That’s why Xabi is the father! He’s definitely in charge on the field, since Iker’s stuck in the goal. Speaking of Xabi, it took him 16 seconds during a point in the second half to clear the runway corner so that he could strike a pose take the corner kick. More Xabi posing here.
By the way, Fernando Verdasco was at the game. I wonder if he and Álvaro found time to go eat afterward? Maybe not, since it was a late game and the players have a training session today.

Eight. The rival players section. Well, in this case, not exactly rival rivals, because both of these players came from the cantera. Doesn’t José María Callejón look exactly like Álvaro Benito? And good for him for finally getting to play in the Bernabéu! Third time’s the charm! And Luis García shared a hug after the game with another canterano, Álvaro Arbeloa, though they didn’t coincide at Madrid.
Nine. Good sportsmanship from Espanyol keeper Carlos Kameni, who helped Cris up; he was duly thanked. And Pepe showed his class when he shook the hand of the ref who had just expelled him before leaving the field.

And Espanyol’s players gathered around Cris to see if he’s ok, after first pleading their case with the referee, of course.
Ten. I love this picture of Sergio and Pepe almost looking like they’re dancing – check out their hands! Who do you think would lead in this case?

Eleven. Poor Pipita.

Twelve. After the game: Sergio showed up in an awful jacket, and workers began removing that awful field. In the beginning, the problem was just in the area around the benches, but now the plague has spread to the entire field, which is why the whole thing is being replaced (too bad I can’t say the same for the jacket). The new field will be ready by the next home game.
Like Sergio, Iker was interviewed after the game by Real Madrid TV. It appears that they are quite sympathetic to Iker’s fans, because they basically only showed him from the neck up. Video here.

reading the blog has become my fav thing during the coffee break, so I am so glad I just read the nes post and can comment. Here I go:
1) Xabi ruling the field -hell yeah to that. I am having a feeling that it will become more and more evident in the future. It feels so right. I love Sergio in all he does, do not get me wrong, but Xabi’s captain qualities are so evident, he could be the 2nd captain!
I also think, especially after TSO said this hilarious things about Xabi being the father, and the rest being kids, that TSO really trusts in him. sweeet.
2) Sergio, lovely boy, your jacket! But you are forgiven as your pretty face is so pretty (and gets prettier with every pic I see, seriously) that I choose to stare at the face, pretending the jacket is not there!
And the shirt? Do you also pretend the shirt is not there either???
Sergio wears shirts? *confused*
yeah, what shirt?
yes, I pretend the short is not there as well, because I predict that he will surprise us with the t-shirt a’la recent Pepe’s (the one you wrote about) any minute now so I better be prepared. LOL
does the shirt read DG or 53?
Knowing Sergio, DG for Dolce & Gabbana.
I think that jacket of Sergio’s is the same one from his carefully-coordinated red-and-gray outfit of old. My optimism was clearly unwarranted; he’s back in the running for “más original”. 😦
Cris’s goal celebration was confusing – you’re quite probably right, and clearly I need to be reading more gossip rags because I’d almost forgotten about Cris Junior!
Disappointed Sergio is adorable, I just want to give him a hug. Or maybe dance with him, a la Pepe. (It looks like they’d just fight about who’d lead! Sergio’s saying “here, it goes like this -” and Pepe’s clearly unhappy with the instructions!) Xabi’s posing is getting out of hand – this is not GQ, my man, it is a match, and you don’t get points for being pretty! (Although if you did, RM would stay forever at the top of the table.) And Iker just looks like a little kid on the monkey bars. I was like – is he trying to get the ball? What’s going on? Oh, nevermind, he’s just regressing to age five!
Finally: Benzema. New pose. NOW. “Thumbs up” is not how you celebrate a goal, dude. Xabi, since you’re the expert, please give the man some pointers.
First off Cristiano’s goal celebration= adorable! I want to see pics of Cristiano 2.0 already!!!
Now when Sergio missed the goal I was like …Oh the jersey is going up….a little higher now….just a little….and no denied! As for the pic with pepe I laughed out loud at that, I think Sergio would definitely lead but Pepe does NOT look happy at all about that, it looks to me like he’s saying “Sergio! I told you, you grab too hard!!!” …I guess Pepe doesnt like rough Sergio…I on the other hand……lets leave it at that 😉
And that red jacket…..hmmmm…Sergio did pose for a pic with Michael Jackson’s star on the Walk of Fame while in LA sooo….maybe its another tribute of some kind…..I actually dont mind it so much tho…
I think our love for Sergio just blinds us to the hideousness of (most of) his fashion choices…
I’m not aware of the exact type of fondness either of you have for El Ramos, but personally, I admire this guy so much that I actually start to LIKE what he wears.. Not saying I’m proud, but that’s the honest truth. Having said that, yessss he’s finally back to his old self! 😀 admit it! Your eyes bulge out in disgust at the start, but then you ooze with warm at the sight of that Sexioness decorated with a beautiful smile 😉
Sadly, his clothes can’t make me stop loving him.
Back in the day when he dressed like a standard Andalusian teen, I legitimately loved his style. (This is a bad, bad thing. I can’t help it.)
hmmmm…I dont think I’ve ever really cringed over his outfits, they just make me smile and then I love him all the more! BUT I must be so far gone that these outfits arent registering as questionable anymore hahaha 😉
Uh. Callejon looks exactly like http://www.shoppingblog.com/pics/troll_dolls_0610.jpg LOL ^^
I chose the worst time to prioritize my real life over the men of Real Madrid, and boy did I learn my lesson.. I probably watched a total of fourteen minutes of the game, none of which featured a goal or a card. So does anyone mind explaining what the heck happened to Pepe? Did the ref stumble across photos of his Ik-utierrez shirt from the other day?
However, I did manage to catch Pipita get his tooth bashed, which obviously wasn’t enjoyable to watch.
..I’m guessing that in Kindergarten, Karim’s finger paint drawings consisted of thumbprints only.
Aww I just wanted to give Sergio a cuddle after he missed that header 😦
Oh lol, I had to look twice to realize that the bottom photo was not of Sergio and Pepe scooping up grass 😆
“I’m guessing that in Kindergarten, Karim’s finger paint drawings consisted of thumbprints only.”
I laughed so hard at this, I actually cried.
What was the FT score ??x
3-0 🙂
Why did Iker have to do acrobatics? i still haven’t seen the game, i didn’t wake up that day.
He was making a save, of course.

10) love that pic!!! Haha!
11) yeah poor him. Was it his lip?
great summery Una. Have you seen some NT coaches in the stands as there was this conference of them in Madrid? I heard Blanc went to the cabin after the game to see Lass & Benzema.
