Iker shaves! (and other news)

September 23, 2010
tags: ,

Iker showed up clean-shaven (very clean shaven, there’s not even any of that usual stubble!!!) for today’s training session.  We found out the reason later: he was promoting a brand of electric razors, so I guess it wasn’t really his decision.  Anyway, as I say every time he shows up without the beard, he looks so young!!!  And like the Iker I remember.  More pictures here.

I want to touch his face!!  Anyway, he also talked about the team situation (the locker room is like a family), and the only interesting thing was what he said about Cristiano: “he’s a fantastic person and a great teammate… he’s not egotistic.”

At least that’s what the Madrid web site reported Iker as saying.  In other media reports, Iker apparently defended his girlfriend by confirming that Cristiano is in fact “egotistic but in a good way.”  Interesting, no?  I’m a bit divided on this – while I understand Iker’s need to back his girlfriend up, I also feel that it’s very, very important to always support your teammates, and saying something like this, which can be taken out of context (like Sara’s statements were), is dangerous.

Iker also spoke about what Marca had reported today about the hour of the training sessions: “the míster decides the schedule, but normally we train at 11 and during the summer, when it gets hot, at 10.  No one has asked for the training sessions to start later.”  He also came out supporting the concentraciones, saying that Mourinho is only trying to do what’s best for the team, and how could Madrid’s players complain about such a thing like that, being such privileged people.  ¡Muy bien Iker!

The outfit wasn’t bad either!  The top half was very nice!  Watch a video here.

Anybody know what the “personal matters” were that caused Pepe to miss practice today? Hopefully they involved burning that ugly shirt/shopping for a new wardrobe and not something too serious…

OH OH OH I don’t know how to react with this. With the whole he shaved thing. It looks different. But in a good way. Then again the beard has grown on me.

Also, why is the whole Cristiano thing blown out of proportion already? It was obviously taken out of context but people are having a field day with this. I love Cristiano, but I do agree that Iker said it best, “egoistic in a good way.” I’m sure that’s what Sara meant anyway (egoistic Cristiano = bring success to RM).

Hi what is the story behind sara’s statement, i have only read what she said, had a feeling it was overblown!

I can’t care what some reporter has to say (to be frank), CR’s team-mates and JM like him, that’s all that matters.

His face looks so smooth!!! I just love the creases near the corners of his lips 😀 he should have shaved for the class photo.

Phillips needs to dress and groom Iker every single day. He looks amazing. I’ve been going back to Real Madrid’s website all day to look at the pictures and now the video. Hopefully his contract with them requires that he stay clean shaven!

I understand what he is trying to say, and I don’t think Carbonero said what she said with a bad intention. But she should be more careful because 1) She is a pretty face, good news reader but needs a lot to be a good interviewer/reporter. 2) She is putting her boyfriend who is the captain of the team in a difficult position.3) I don’t know if it is a contractual thing because she was doing this before dating Iker but going on a program like AR every week is dangerous, it doesn’t matter that she is there to supposedly talk football, they always want to trap her into saying inappropriate and controversial things.
IMO she might be a really wonderful person who makes Iker happy but there will be a point soon enough when UNFORTUNATELY she will have to choose: Iker or her job ( I hope nobody accuses me of being sexist).

I feel bad for Iker, lots of stress lately ( at this rate he will be bald by the end of the season). I have a feeling that his relationship with Marca is getting worse by the day( not just because of today’s cover) it has been a long time since he gave them an exclusive. I hate Inda ,the editor of Marca he is an idiot.

YAY! I prefer clean-shaven Iker by about a million miles… the beard just covers up his beauty way too much.

On another note – Marca, can you please try actual fact-based reporting for once?

Sorry ,but he should have keep his mouth shut. Sara should not have said anything at all. I would like to be a fly on the wall to see what they say to each other in the locker room(Cristiano & Iker). Now because of her, that puts the whole team in an uncomfortable place. As “journalist” she should have known better.

I wouldn’t mind being a towel in the locker room 😉

I agree with you guys. I love Iker and his diplomacy usually, but I say a definite no no to him commenting the statements of Sara about his teammates, any of the teammates. Not only is it not good for the team, but he’s getting himself trapped and also makes it more difficult for Sara.

I mean, her relationship aside (and my tears about it), it’s her work and she should be able to tell her opinions, without her boyfriend commenting them, because it than suddenly becomes about him, not her. I hate to say that, but I do support girl power when it comes to sports journalists and I think Sara is very often unfairly treated because she’s a female journalist, so I really would defend her right to do her own work and not having Iker more involved in this than he already is because of the nature of his job anyway.

I love him, but he really should stay out of this.

Honestly, I think it’s a big fuss over very little, I believe even José Mourinho has said something to that effect about Ronaldo’s playing style once? Better for her to have said nothing, but this big mess is really pointless and I hope it blows over soon.

I prefer to look at Iker’s face without the beard in the way- seriously, he looks like a little boy in that second photograph.

I think Iker handled himself well when he spoke about Cristiano. Obviously he was going to be asked about his girlfriend’s comments about his teammate, but he handled himself well. He did say that Cristiano is egotistical but yes in the best sense of the word. He also said his selfishness is to score goals, but that he personally doesn’t have or will ever have a problem with him.

It was pretty stupid for Sara to say those comments about Cristiano knowing that her boyfriend plays for the same team. I was impressed with how Iker diffused that situation. He didn’t agree with her completely, but he didn’t say anything that would piss her off. Good job Iker.
