more “Mou-isms”

There’s not much more on this in the print edition of Marca today, just that the players know that Mou’s rules cannot be bent, and that what they’re most disliking at the moment are: the concentraciones before home games, the fact that the training sessions start one hour earlier than normal (at 10h rather than 11h), and that family members have restricted access to Valdebebas.
And in case you’re wondering, these are the players with children: Dudek, Albiol, Xabi, Arbeloa, Cristiano (I sometimes forget!), Kaká, Marcelo and Carvalho. As stated earlier, only Jerzy and Ricardo’s kids are of school age.
On the same page, Marca also compiled a list of Mou quotes that he used to motivate the players.
To Di María, during the pre-season friendly against Club América:
You, wake up, you’re making me look bad!
To Benzema, during a training session:
If it were up to you, I would start training sessions at 12, because at 10 you’re asleep and at 11 you’re still asleep.
To Sergio Ramos, after the Real Sociedad game:
Carvalho, Marcelo and Pepe played very well.
To the team, against Real Sociedad:
How can a team that was just promoted dominate us like that? We haven’t even had a shot at the goal! I don’t recognize any of you.
To Morata:
Get up, in English football they wouldn’t even blow the whistle for that.
Which of these is your favorite ‘Mou-ism’?

Oh my god!! His quotes are just epic win! 🙂 Hahahaha.
Hey Una, if it’s not much to ask (and if you do have time), maybe you can post something about Jose Mourinho. Like a “get to know Jose Mourinho” post. 🙂 Some fun stuff about him apart from football and like family or other stuff. 😀
And I really, really love your blog. 🙂 It’s so awesome.
“Carvalho, Marcelo and Pepe played very well.”
Oh, ouch.
I know 😦
How can anyone react to that without crying?
Ouch, Mou!
He’s either a genius or they’re all going to need psychiatric treatment in very short order.
Ouch indeed. Maybe Mou is a believer of tough love…
The Di Maria one is funny, but would Mou really say these things to motivate? I would have thought he’d be more supportive if he wants to build team spirit.
If this is what he’s saying when he’s covering his mouth during games, no wonder the players look at him like he’s loco.
haha! my thoughts exactly…
sergio 😦
Haha. My favourite is the Sergio Ramos one and the Morata one comes a close second. Hope Marca makes this a regular feature.
OUCH to the Sergio one! But good for Mourinho for expecting so much out of them. Clearly the tough love worked for the other teams he’s coached… let’s hope it does the same for Madrid! 🙂
Whatever gets the job done, I guess!
I wonder how the Spanish players feel about his coaching style which seems so opposite of VDB’s.
these are funny, but I do wonder how many of these are made-up/half made-up, considering Marca’s love of sensationalism…
well, ok, the Benzema one is probably true but I haven’t heard any of the others…. In any case, Marca must stalk the team pretty closely!
The one about Carvalho, Marcelo and Pepe playing well was also said to the press after the game.
Yes, I read that one too now that you say it. Though I bet he told Sergio directly that he didn’t play well today instead of saying it like how he said it to the press (“Carvalho, Marcelo, and Pepe played very well”), because Mourinho is known for being honest to his players.
I think Europeans are probably more used to tough love / no love from the coach. Americans would sue for emotional distress.
Yeah…with a Portuguese father, the phrase “suck it up” is basically our family motto…
And actually, I had assumed that Portuguese men were somehow genetically incapable of crying until I saw Cristiano do it…
Perhaps, but I don’t think “tough love” is necessarily Mourinho’s approach… I mean, his past players have a lot of affection for him (see those youtube videos of Marco Materazzi and Mourinho crying, and the one of the crying and celebrations after Inter Milan won the champions league… also in general in interviews past players speak with affection of him)
I agree that Mourinho is tough on his players, but I don’t think his coaching approach only consists of “tough love”. 😀
He may say a lot of crazy things, and yell at them during halftime, but he also laughs with the players during training. I think it was after the game against Ajax that he went out to hug Pipita. He also patted Sergio Canales’s head and smiled at everyone as he was passed them. When they work hard and do well, I’m sure he acknowledges it.
So, personally, I’m not really worried that Mourinho will have a super negative impact on their mental state. 🙂 I really hope Mourinho’s brand of coaching produces good results for us!
To S.Ramos “Carvalho, Marcelo and Pepe played very well.”!!lmao!
