in case you missed it – the purple edition
In case you missed it – Auxerre vs. Real Madrid [2010-09-28].
We won by the minimum, but, as Mou said, we do have six points. And we didn’t concede any goals, so while I may still not be content with the team’s play, I’m satisfied with this result.
One. The team wore the purple kits for the first time this season. What did you think? Side note: here is Karim Benzema modeling the purple kit. I don’t think he should give up his day job.

I liked them, since purple is one of Madrid’s colors, but it made for some garish color combinations with some of the players’ boots, especially in these two cases.

Two. Meanwhile, Iker was in the all green outfit. The shirt, the shorts, the socks, the boots, the sign behind him, the grass on the field and the netting of the goal all matched in typical Iker fashion.

Three. The titulares and the banquillo. How I love this team!

Four. Here’s Arbeloa, Pepe and Sergio Ramos defending Xabi Alonso, after he was taken down with a hard foul. I love how they all immediately got into the ref’s face. He doesn’t seem too happy though – he must be the only person who wouldn’t be happy – I mean, if I had these three guys in my face, I’d be laughing from glee.

Five. The wonderful goal from Ángel di María, and the celebration – Ángel making the customary heart with his fingers, Pipita and co. all happy for the goal, and Iker doing his usual touch of el larguero. Ángel also received congratulations again from his teammates when the game ended.

Bonus Ángel di María, because he scored the winning goal. Here he is chatting on the bench before the game.

Six. Antonio Adán was the descartado for the game, and had to watch it in the stands with a bunch of old men the rest of Madrid’s delegation. Poor thing, he must have had to been on his best behavior. Ricardo Carvalho was also ruled out after tests on one of his ankles showed that he wasn’t in game condition.

Seven. Sergio getting physical with his teammates. (On the one on the right, the replay cuts off right as Sergio and Iker are giving each other a high five, which is why Sergio looks like a ghost or the fastest human being on the planet).

Eight. Who spent more time doing their hair in the tunnel before the game, Cris or Sergio?
Nine. Two cute little moments: Álvaro being a blowfish and Lass getting all dramatic.

Ten. Cristiano’s pout is adorable.

Eleven. On the left is Cris’ reaction to getting a yellow card. Not pictured is the thumbs up he also gave to the ref. On the right is Cris chastising an Auxerre player. Don’t mess with the hair, he’s saying.

Twelve. Shirtless moments are always good, so here is Mahamadou Diarrá. Lass is not impressed. Maybe it was because the substitution was delayed for a few minutes, because Diarrá’s shirt was back in the locker room, as I guess he wasn’t expecting to play. Of note: as Mahamadou played his first minutes in a CL game this season, he won’t be able to play in the CL with another team should he leave during the winter transfer season. This means that he won’t be as attractive to prospective clubs.

Thirteen. My favorite Sami Khedira moment from the game.

Fourteen. More Iker. What happens if he wants to signal the number ten?

Fifteen. Well, at least we now know that what is on Marcelo’s shirt is not any sort of bodily fluid.

Sixteen. The Xabi Alonso pose section™. This time around, he decided to use a few props as well.
And to paraphrase Pepe Reina, “heridas por su club, heridas por el Madrid!” By the way, Xabi made 127 good passes.

Seventeen. A pregame hug, and Sergio Ramos still messing around with his hair some 110 minutes later.

Eighteen. Other team news: the entire delegation rushed to the airport after the game, in order to get back to Madrid before midnight, as a general strike was scheduled for today. They made it.
Team doctor Juan Carlos Hernández sat very still on the bench during this game, after he found out that he has been suspended for two games by Liga authorities after getting himself kicked out of the Levante game. The club was surprised at the sanction, but does not plan to appeal it. I hope they have an able substitute and that no players get injured in the meantime!
It looks like the reason that Pedro León found himself in Mou’s bad graces was that he did not follow Mou’s instructions to stay on Asier del Horno in the Levante game. This of course led to Peter Lion being dropped from the list for Auxerre and Mou’s anger at the subsequent press conference where he was asked about this omission.
At the end of the press conference after the Auxerre game, he sarcastically asked if he could leave, and if they were sure about it.
And the players finally get a day off from training after Mou decided to give them a rest today. The last day off was Sept. 5, but only those players not on national team duty that weekend had the day off, which means that some of the players have gone about a month without any days off!

Well we won, thats the most important thing. I need the team to gel together very quickly, cause the clasico will be here before you know it.
Can I just say that I HATE international breaks. There’s one coming up next week, and I’ll be praying everyone comes back without injuries.
I am glad that we won because the 3 points are the most important thing now. Ronaldo and Pipita need to step it up. As much as I like Ronaldo, I don’t like the pouting, laying on the floor and the frustrated attitude he has during most matches this season.
I think Sergio spends the most time on his hair. Thanks to you, I instantly knew what was on Marcelo’s jersey when I saw it, my Dad thinks I know too much info about players…..
As adorable as it is, I wish Iker stops the all green thing. Someone needs to convince him to change the color of the shoes at least.
I agree Iker needs to quit with the all green…its a little too Kermit the frog for me… 😉
I still have mixed feelings about the game, but I have to agree that it had some nice and cute moments which were all so nicely captured in the blog! I am literally staring at the blog entry not able to move my eyes away!;-)
I, myself, am liking purple outfits, they look cool and I do not mind the purple outfit -pink boots combination!
I also have to mention that our boy Serhiooo, who besides being insanely hotter with every game (I have no idea how is it humanly possible), is so getting yellow carded again! I think he’s on his way to the red card any minute now! Surprisingly, as much as I do not want him to get one, the thought of seeing him mad after getting it, is kinda hot to me. :-))
Aaaahhhh I love aggressive Sergio, but it’s so difficult to reconcile with my desire for him not to get sent off… why must life be so complicated?
I actually laughed out aloud while reading this entry. 🙂 Your take on Iker’s ‘matching-matching’ outfit is priceless. LOL! Can I also point out the boys looked amazing in purple. Although, I did do a double take when they first came out and during the match, I unconsciously looked for the guys in white first.
I too found last night’s game incredibly frustrating. I hope the hell the boys get their act together – fast. The last couple of minutes of the game had me chewing my nails in nervousness. Comeon knit together already!!!
Didnt love the game, but I loooooved the purple! Everyone looked gorgey 🙂
I knew yesterdays so so game would provide for a very good post today, there are positives in everything!
One–Lol’d @benzema’s modeling face, everytime I look at it I picture him saying in a very frenchhh voice “Oui Oui you would like to touch me, no?”
Four–And jeez –>”I mean, if I had these three guys in my face, I’d be laughing from glee.” If I had those three guys in my face, I could just imagine the nonsense that would come out of my mouth, its happened before….the nonsense not the guys 😉
Thirteen–… Sami Khedira looks like he just gave birth to the ball lol
Fourteen–I love how Iker looked like he was throwing up gang signs or sending his love to his bros down the pitch lol
Seventeen–And Lastly! Sexio removing the headband! I think he needs a personal headband assistant to adjust and remove them before and after games, um…I’ll be on the next flight to Madrid
I guess this is no more Mr. Nice Guy from Mou? At least we can expect interesting press con’s.
Did Sergio said ‘puta’ while pushing Ronaldo? Hahaha. Fierce!
Looks like it! Naughty Sergio!
I know this is sort of off topic, but do you know what happened to Alvaro Morata? I totally fell in love with him when I first heard about him…I was excited that he was going to debut against Osasuna, but he never did…:'( now I can’t find any news about him and I was wondering if anyone could help.
He’s playing with Castilla, but injured his shoulder about two weeks back.
Im always looking forward for this!!! Loving this category!!!
Haha imagine of what the opponent player thinks who changes the shirts with Marcelo when he smells that!! Hehe.
btw. I love how the media plays with Di Marias name. Best header was by olé: Guardian Angel 😀
Off topic but kickette has a picture of cris son!!!! i almost died
Wow @ Mou’s press conference. My Spanish isn’t that great but I understood most of it. “You guys speak of Pedro Leon like he’s Zidane or Maradona.” I wonder how Pedro felt watching this. That press conference definitely touched a nerve for him. So much so that he just got up and left. I didn’t watch the game, but I heard he threw a water bottle again. True?
So. Much. Pretty.
THANK YOU!
Watching matches is starting to drive me insane… so I shall focus on the positive: we won, and no goals were conceded, and everyone looked hot in the purple kits. Except Marcelo, because it still looks like he drooled on himself. But agghhhhh if we don’t start playing better I will have no hair left to pull out!
I must grudgingly admit to liking Iker’s green outfit, except perhaps the shoes, not least because it seems to be bringing more luck than the blue!
Do Sergio and Sami look more alike every time I see them, or am I just imagining it? Xabi, of course, looks more gorgeous with every passing match, and Cris… well… he needs to pout less and score more, is all there is to say!
