the twitter tennis update & other news
The players had a day off yesterday (finally!), and apparently Álvaro Arbeloa spent most of that day online.
He created a new page for himself on Facebook, added pictures to it, and then started exchanging tweets with three of Spain’s best tennis players, Fernando Verdasco, Feliciano López and Carlos Moyá!
To see the full exchange, click on the picture on the left, where I’ve translated the tweets between three tennis players and two football players. But if you just want to get the gist of it, keep on reading.
It all started when Álvaro posted about yesterday’s win, and Fernando (see some very hot pictures of him trying out Thai boxing here) congratulated him. They then traded compliments, and then Fer added that he and Feli would like to take on Álvaro and Xabi in tennis when he returns from Asia.
Álvaro agreed, but he thought Fer meant on Playstation, so it’s still unknown whether they’ll be playing real doubles tennis, or facing off in front of a console.
Then Carlos chimed in about playing video games, which caused Álvaro to boast about his football video game prowess and offer to school Carlos.
And Xabi, being his usual self, did not joke around or trash talk, simply saying in one tweet, sign me up for the tennis!
I’d love to see pictures from whatever happens… preferably shirtless ones, of course. I’ll even be happy with just a picture from the lunch. Or maybe Fernando can teach the others how to do some Thai boxing? Note: if the boxing thing does happen, I hope that Xabi and Álvaro will drag Sergio Ramos along with them on that day.
Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso revealed on Twitter what TV shows and movies he likes. Plus, some other news!
We find out that Xabi loves “Entourage” and that he thinks Johnny Drama is hilarious (me too, Xabi, me too), and that he’s looking forward to the seventh season of that, and the fifth season of “Xabi” “Dexter.”
Then he goes on to call someone else “class act” – is he not aware that the dictionary has HIS picture as the definition? Anyway, Xabi also watches “The Wire” and “Mad Men.” That’s a lot of TV, no?
And Xabi even tweeted in Basque! It was more TV talk, but still… that’s hot, no? And then the movie talk started. Of The Shawshank Redemption, Xabi says it’s a movie that he could have watched 1,000 times already, but will always want to watch one more time.
Other Madrid news: Ángel di María got in a little car accident on Wednesday afternoon in the Moncloa area as he was heading to his home in La Finca. Neither Ángel nor his girlfriend, who was traveling with him, were injured, but the car was scratched up a bit. Ángel called the club immediately after the accident to report it, and is expected to report for training with the rest of the team today.
This of course, wasn’t the first car accident that our players have been involved in. Who can forget Karim Benzema’s two car accidents last year, one in Madrid last November after the game with Barcelona, and one during his Christmas vacation on Réunion in which both cars were totaled? And then there was Drenthe of course, who hit a police car at 4:30 in the morning back in 2007 when his GPS told him to turn the wrong way, and when he realized that, he turned the other way and hit the police car. And back in 2000, Alberto Rivera and Albert Celades crashed their cars near the Plaza de Neptuno and subsequently tested positive for alcohol. And on a more serious note, it was a car accident that took Juanito away from us.
Let’s hope our players will be able to continue avoiding injuries both on and off the pitch, since car accidents suck and Dr. Hernández won’t be on the bench for the next two games!

Xabi tweeted more yesterday than at any point in the history of his Twitter account! Also, the multilingualism is hottttttt. The addition of Basque almost killed me! He is, obviously, wrong about Don Draper (who is kind of a miserable misogynist), but humility is just part of his own classiness!
This tennis thing needs to happen, but if the boys take up Thai boxing, Sergio HAS to go along! And then they need to convince TSO (and VDB!) to introduce it into the team’s training. Mandatory pictures regardless of what they do, of course.
And Álvaro is just… addicted to the internet. Twitter, Facebook, FourSquare, his own blog… when does the man have time for training?!
Jennifer I agree on your Don Draper comment – they guy is a terrible role model! But the show is still amazing – Jon Hamm is pretty hot and does exude a certain “coolness” on the show I guess – so he has some things in common with Xabi 🙂 Arbeloa’s tweets are great and are helping me practice my spanish (that is a decent excuse to spend half my time at work on twitter, no?). Ramos and Ozil also seem to tweet every now and then but its pretty standard stuff – we need more juicy bits from these guys! And again Unamadridista thanks so much for your two blogs – we all appreciate the effort!
Ozil has twitter???? What’s the link of his twitter?
Talking about özil, Kaká talked about him on his twitter (twitter.com/RealKaka):
On twitter, Kaká was asked:
The girl asked: “where you able to talk with özil??? :)”
and Kaká answered her back:
“Yeah… I speak with him in english!! He’s a very nice guy ..”
hehehehe Özil is pretty popular these days! 😀 eheheheh
sorry whiskey, this is a reply for ju.
@officialozil23 but Im really not sure if its his. Or if its his …friends/representatives post and he just once in a while. He(?) seems to try out his Spanish. From this morning:
officialozil23: Buenos dias amigos! ya estamos toda la blanco al completo aunq falta algunos del mundial. Esta tarde tenemos entrenamiento. Un abrazoo.
Well I donno if hes messing with Spanish and just mixed up tarde & manana, coz otherwise he would have missed the morning training. The tweet is deleeted meanwhile. But I had to laugh about the abrazoo 😀
do you know Arbeloa foursquare ID? and he has a blog? what is the website??
arbeloa.com is the URL for his website. Its linked on his twitteraccount, and whenever something is posted there a tweet is wtitten automatically. Id recommend to check the website a bit he posted a video that hes done to animate his teammates during the WC. That is just AWESOME!
(I thought you’d be all over this post!)
Xabi tweeting IN BASQUE! O_O
*head explodes*
*falls over dead*
*revives self*
*reads Basque tweet*
*falls over dead again*
I couldn’t make any sense of the first sentence… Madridista, were you able to? Or did you just go with it being about The Wire in some way? 🙂
(Man, this language is a mindf*ck! *marvels*)
I think it says (and I don’t know any Basque) that he’s seen the first four seasons, that it’s very good and that Freamon is boss (everyone’s favorite new adjective).
I agree, whatever those boys would do, Sergio has to be involved. The boy was born to have the pictures taken while he’s trainign thai boxing. The mental image of that I just created is enough to melt my heart already! 😉
great blog entry UnaMadritista, thanks for all the translations!!!!
haha the boy was born to have pictures taken of him PERIOD. lol mental images alone wont do for long though!
Awesome post, unamadridista! Thank u for the organized and detailed translations!
Finally Iker is on Twitter.
Here’s the link: http://twitter.com/_IkerCasillas_
I’m not sure it’s really iker.. If he does have one, I’m pretty sure that Arbeloa would promote him, just like he did Xabi. He and Ramos have stated before that Iker doesn’t have twitter. I’m gonna take their words. When they say it’s the real Iker, that’s when I’ll believe 🙂
I’m pretty sure that if Iker were even pondering getting a twitter, Alvaro would be all over letting us know!
absolutely agree with KDJ & Laura. Alvaro would have vertified. Definitely!
haha yeah I followed that conversion yesterday and it was so fun! Say what you want I love Àrbeloa on twitter. As well as the Getafe boys. The simple receipt is: be original and regular. And he totally is. Hehe Xabi, I love Shawshank Redemption too! Could watch it again and again too… how about we two? 😀 HEHE
Good, Di Maria is fine!!! Didnt have Alvaro Benito a car accident as well? And threw him back with his recovery? Btw, he was in Punto Pelota 2 days ago, anyone watched that?
Thank you so much for these!! I love both the tennis players and RM so I was delighted to see them all chatting (and planning a possible get together!!) yesterday. But I definitely lost the thread when the talk turned to video games, so thank you for the translation!
And I completely agree that the Basque tweeting was hot! 😉
great post!
i love that the elite spanish athletes are having this conversation. Xabis is the man. his last post, i was in pain and tears i laughed so much. so random and so cleverly blunt and on point compared to the funny back and stuff with alvaro.
xabi is boss. lol
