following Real Madrid…

the twitter tennis update & other news

The players had a day off yesterday (finally!), and apparently Álvaro Arbeloa spent most of that day online.

He created a new page for himself on Facebook, added pictures to it, and then started exchanging tweets with three of Spain’s best tennis players, Fernando Verdasco, Feliciano López and Carlos Moyá!

To see the full exchange, click on the picture on the left, where I’ve translated the tweets between three tennis players and two football players.  But if you just want to get the gist of it, keep on reading.

It all started when Álvaro posted about yesterday’s win, and Fernando (see some very hot pictures of him trying out Thai boxing here) congratulated him.  They then traded compliments, and then Fer added that he and Feli would like to take on Álvaro and Xabi in tennis when he returns from Asia.

Álvaro agreed, but he thought Fer meant on Playstation, so it’s still unknown whether they’ll be playing real doubles tennis, or facing off in front of a console.

Then Carlos chimed in about playing video games, which caused Álvaro to boast about his football video game prowess and offer to school Carlos.

And Xabi, being his usual self, did not joke around or trash talk, simply saying in one tweet, sign me up for the tennis!

I’d love to see pictures from whatever happens… preferably shirtless ones, of course.  I’ll even be happy with just a picture from the lunch.  Or maybe Fernando can teach the others how to do some Thai boxing?  Note: if the boxing thing does happen, I hope that Xabi and Álvaro will drag Sergio Ramos along with them on that day.

Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso revealed on Twitter what TV shows and movies he likes.  Plus, some other news!

We find out that Xabi loves “Entourage” and that he thinks Johnny Drama is hilarious (me too, Xabi, me too), and that he’s looking forward to the seventh season of that, and the fifth season of “Xabi” “Dexter.”

Then he goes on to call someone else “class act” – is he not aware that the dictionary has HIS picture as the definition?  Anyway, Xabi also watches “The Wire” and “Mad Men.”  That’s a lot of TV, no?

And Xabi even tweeted in Basque!  It was more TV talk, but still… that’s hot, no?  And then the movie talk started.  Of The Shawshank Redemption, Xabi says it’s a movie that he could have watched 1,000 times already, but will always want to watch one more time.

Other Madrid news: Ángel di María got in a little car accident on Wednesday afternoon in the Moncloa area as he was heading to his home in La Finca.  Neither Ángel nor his girlfriend, who was traveling with him, were injured, but the car was scratched up a bit.  Ángel called the club immediately after the accident to report it, and is expected to report for training with the rest of the team today.

This of course, wasn’t the first car accident that our players have been involved in.  Who can forget Karim Benzema’s two car accidents last year, one in Madrid last November after the game with Barcelona, and one during his Christmas vacation on Réunion in which both cars were totaled?  And then there was Drenthe of course, who hit a police car at 4:30 in the morning back in 2007 when his GPS told him to turn the wrong way, and when he realized that, he turned the other way and hit the police car.  And back in 2000, Alberto Rivera and Albert Celades crashed their cars near the Plaza de Neptuno and subsequently tested positive for alcohol.  And on a more serious note, it was a car accident that took Juanito away from us.

Let’s hope our players will be able to continue avoiding injuries both on and off the pitch, since car accidents suck and Dr. Hernández won’t be on the bench for the next two games!
