in case you missed it – the frustration edition
In case you missed it – Real Murcia vs. Real Madrid [2010-10-26].
That was certainly one of the most frustrating games I’ve seen in a long time. A good part of that can be credited to Murcia’s defense and the partidazo of Dani Hernández (what a double save!), and maybe another part of that is because we’re so used to seeing our first team that our “1A” team just can’t measure up to it. They didn’t do much to convince us, either.
One. The frustration, in images.
The bench wasn’t looking too happy either, especially Cristiano, substituted for the first time this season. That makes Iker the only player to have played every minute so far.

Two. But there was a bit of consolation – at least we have a beautiful team…
… that looks best when they take off their shirts, which they should do way more often than they do now.

Three. Other semi-interesting moments during the game:
– the rare appearance by Iker, as he hasn’t seen any action in Copa del Rey games in years. He didn’t have to make a single save in the game, because Murcia did not shoot at Iker at all, NOT EVEN ONCE.
That’s a good thing, Iker not having any work, but even that has a downside to it: if he’s not consistently challenged, he could lose some of his edge. Iker became the best goalkeeper in the world because he had an extremely poor defense in front of him for so many years. Now, what’s going to happen when all he does during games is stretch?

– Sergio’s right knee was covered with kinesio tape, which was also spotted on other players, including Pedro León and Pipa.

– I loved both these moments: the look of incredulity Cris gave the referee, and Sergio smoothing down his hair. His hair looks like it would feel so silky, no?

– and though Pipita wasn’t in the game for long (he came in at the 62nd minute mark for Benzema) he provided some welcome distraction from the 0-0 score.

– also very fun was the moment Pipa checked into the game. He made the sign of the cross three times, and then gave his hand one extra kiss, for good luck, maybe?
It didn’t seem to work too well though, because the game finished 0-0.
– and for the Albiol family, this night was very special, since it was the first time that Miguel and Raúl had ever come face to face in an official game. The entire family came out to support the brothers, and the result was the best possible one for them.
After the game, Raúl said, “This is the first time that I’ve ever faced him; he’s a great brother and a great player.”
I love that both brothers Albiol wear the number 18 as well, and I didn’t know that Miguel, who is the older brother, is that much smaller in size than El Chori! (In height, I mean, since unfortunately I don’t have enough information to compare other things!)

They have the same nose!
Four. Other game notes (aka the Mou section): things aren’t looking good for Karim Benzema. Mou had said before the game that he would be playing all 90 minutes, and he must have done really badly for Mou to pull him out with one-third of the game remaining.
However, after the game, Mou said he didn’t want to analyze each player’s individual performance, but rather that of the team, and he was happy with the team’s attitude, that they were “súper motivados” and that another Alcorconazo did not happen on Tuesday night, despite the final result.
So, this means that on Saturday, the bench won’t be filled with Castilla players, and that Mou doesn’t have any of our players on his death list!
And this tie of course means that both Madrid and Murcia continue as the only undefeated teams in the top three divisions.
The second leg of this match-up will be held on either Nov. 9 or 10 at the Bernabéu.

I could not see the game, but I blame the result on lack of Xabi the Father LOL
anyway, I love the gifs. Sergio’s hair LOL and Alvaro – well, hello!
but seriously, when I read at night what the result was, I was almost convinced that we’ll see Castilla players on Saturday;-) I mean, I will imagine the loss would be unacceptable for Mourinho, but the 0:0 result does not make him super happy either, I am sure, especially after the game of 6:1 and especially because let’s face it – 0:0 is not the greatest of results.
I assume it was caused by the change of the players, the “6:1” squad was on fire for some time and now the configuration of the players was a bit different so they have to get used to it too. But of course, I am full of hope and optimism for the future;-))
LOL. I love thinking of Xabi as The Father. Seems so fitting.
Iker might have had to make a save…if Pepe didn’t tackle every Murcia player that made it into Madrid’s half.
He was Madrid’s ‘man of the match’ for me. And he gets brownie points for showing up at Valdebebas today despite being given the day off. I really hope his contract negotiations get resolved soon!
Aah! I’ve been thinking of shirtless Pipa and Alvaro ALL morning! Despite the upsetting result, I was really looking forward to this post. Also, I really don’t like the fact that we’re gonna have to rely on the second leg when we should have been cruising along in the first place. I’m afraid this doesn’t bode well at all; football is as unpredictable as Sergio’s “fashionable” outfits.
The camera crew and producers deserve a medal for giving us all that “immodest” footage during such a disappointing match! I think for the majority of us, Alvaro’s geeky tweets have only earned him the stable title of “the RM Cutie”. But that little bonus at the end of the match should now label him as the deserving “Mr. Sexy Pants” of the team!
So that’s how Pipa’s butt looks so great: it’s been held together by kinesio tape all along! 😆 and wasn’t it great seeing Sergio back in action?! Although I did pout every time the tape on his knee was visible.
“unfortunately I don’t have enough information to compare other things!” LOL! Or should I grab my mind out of the gutter? 😀
thanks this explains why marcelo made comments about benzema at his interview today
once again good summary Una.I particulary love this moment of incredulity that Cris has when he doesnt get his way:):):)
Did Zidane attend training today?
Hey, look on the bright side:
A) We DO have a beautiful team…look at Higuain and Canales. Lol I’m starting to think I like Canales too much because whenever I look at your posts I look for pictures of him and Angel di Maria first hehe:P
B) At least the Albiol brothers dont have to worry about who won! 🙂
I did NOT know that Alvaro had such nice abs!! HE’S LOOKING GOOD! he needs to take his shirt off more often!
they all need to take their shirts off more often. In fact, that is how they should do the annual team photo. If you all agree, it is time to start a petition. Who’s with me?!
sign me in 😀
I send my total approval of this idea. 😉
Can we petition for a team calendar too?….dress the boys up like seasons and holidays I DONT CARE! Sergio dressed up as a Christmas present, well that would be nice 😉
I actually did miss it [well I PVRd it, since I was working] so this recap was great, even if the result was less so. Does this mean some of the players are now dead to Mou, as he suggested before the game? Agree with you Una re Benzema’s long term future, although there seeemed to be rumours about him floating out there from the summer so who knows. can’t really figure that kid out, as he definietly has talent.
“… and I didn’t know that Miguel, who is the older brother, is that much smaller in size than El Chori! (In height, I mean, since unfortunately I don’t have enough information to compare other things!)” <—-LOL! Its comments like these that make me so happy I found this blog!!! 😉
This game was verrrrry hard to watch without a constant stream of curse words flowing out of my mouth….better luck this weekend boys!!!
But as there is always a plus side, it was very nice to have Sergio back in the game, luscious locks and all!
It was a frustrating game to watch but I had to keep in mind that the team that played did not have much, well pretty much zero), actual game time playing together. Practicing together and playing in a game together is two very different things.
When I saw Cris reaction to the ref who awarded the throw in to Murcia during the game, I had to laugh out loud. Some of the faces he makes are priceless. I’m sure Cris wasn’t thrilled about being subbed out but Mourinho said before the game that he and Higuain would share minutes. I’m sure he felt responsible for not scoring too. But their goal keeper did an outstanding job though.
Felt kinda bad for Benzema. The lack of playing time with Cris & Higuain showed. He just wasn’t anticipating their passes, etc. as much as the regular starters do. I’m sure that Mourinho’s comments about being “dead to me” didn’t help. Most guys will use that for motivation but if you confidence is low already, I can’t believe it helps. Guess if I had a son who played sports instead of a daughter, I might look at things a little differently. Anyway, this is Madrid and the expectations are quite high, as I am slowly learning 🙂
Great to see Sergio back on the pitch. Still don’t think he was 100% but it was a good match for him to get minutes. I am sure the tape was more of a precautionary measure but it did bother me to see it too. I had to laugh when I saw him smoothing down his hair. It’s not like anyone expects their hair to be perfect after a match and yet still he tries.
Just found this site recently and I love it. 🙂
I knew you would have something to say about that particular footage of Serge having a moment with his hair! It does appear to be silky smooooth… Someone needs to run her fingers thru it.
I volunteer!
In fact, I will use the opportunity to carry out *detailed* research on the state of Sergio’s hair… no problem at all!
There can never be too many volunteers! Count me in! A worthy cause I think… caring for Sexio’s locks one strand at a time 😀
great summary again, Una! Leally love this section.
the highlights for me of this game definitely were the shirtless scenes of Pipa and Alvaro (Hey, hey Alvarito you sexy soul! that was unexpected! Show us more often!!!)
Aaaaahhhh Álvaro, can you please do that more often?
Chori and his brother look like father-and-son or something – Miguel is teeny! (And, well, Chori is enormous.)
Thanks again for the recap, you do such a great job of grabbing the interesting moments – and watching when we can’t. (Although in this case I think it’s probably for the best that I didn’t get to sit through this…)
