following Real Madrid…

spotted yesterday…

The news round-up from yesterday.  In general, a great day in terms of players, a not so great day in terms of fashion.

One. Cristiano presented his new boots, the spotted CR7 Safari ones.

It was once again emphasized that they were made to his exact specifications, and Cris also said he chose the design himself: “Safari expresses my style.  It gives me everything I need to elevate my game.”  So, I think we can assume that he asked Nike to incorporate the leopard spot design, which most of you don’t seem to like.  I’m still waiting to see how it’ll look with his Madrid kit before giving an opinion, but apparently we won’t get to see that until next weekend, during the derbi madrileño.

But I do love animal prints, and going on a safari was one of those most amazing experiences I’ve had, so I might end up liking these after all!

Anyway, at least Cris toned down his own outfit for the launch yesterday, since I guess he figured all focus should be on his flamboyant new boots and not on a flamboyant outfit (that belt buckle, had it not been half-covered by Cris’ shirt, would have stolen the show).

See a video of Cris thanking his fans (and winking of course) here, get an up close look at the shoes here, and hear Cris talk about the current state of things at Madrid here.

Two. Sergio Ramos was seen filming a spot for TVE for the “un juguete, una ilusión” (a toy, a hope) campaign yesterday.  Watch the behind the scenes here.  The campaign sells pens, with all funds going to make and send toys to developing countries, since the UN has recognized that all children have the right to play.

What a great gesture from Sergio, but what a horrible outfit!  I’m not into that denim-on-denim look at all!

Sergio also tweeted about this:  “Hi friends, today I filmed a spot for RTVE’s “un juguete, una ilusión” campaign.  I invite you all to purchase the pen to help children that don’t have toys.  With regards to my injury, I’m good and ready to incorporate myself into the dynamic of the team.  A big hug.”

And “[the pen] only costs five euros and we will help thousands of children to get toys.”

Three. Meanwhile, Royston Drenthe is still hoping that Madrid will let him play in the game this weekend, saying that FP still has time to remove the penalty.  He also hinted that he may end up paying the penalty of €2 million himself.  In the video, you can see just the top of what I’m sure is a questionable outfit.

By the way, Madrid has never lost in the Rico Pérez (where Hércules plays).  They’ve come away with 15 wins and four ties in their 19 visits.

(The badly dressed section ends here).

Four. And Arbeloa was spotted on twitter, like always.

¡¡¡I LOVE, LOVE THIS!!!

User “Angel_DM22” (whose account no longer exists) wrote to Álvaro, asking “please confirm to everyone that I’m the real [Ángel di María].  Álvaro’s response?  “No, you aren’t.”  ¡JAJAJA!

Five. And the Real Madrid Foundation announced that one of our favorite madridistas Rafa Nadal will receive an extraordinary award at their annual gala next Thursday, where they’ll hand out their Premios Alma.  Alfredo di Stéfano will also receive an award.  José Mourinho and the entire first team are expected to attend, and they’ll likely wear their team suites, which they do look good in.

Six. And now it’s on to Xabi, who hardly ever puts a wrong foot forward in the fashion stakes!

He was spotted out with Nagore and Jontxu, taking a walk and picking up a few things in their neighborhood, Salamanca.  Pictures via Dona da Bola; rest of them can be found here!

Seriously, how is it possible that Xabi is so perfect?

Seven. In other good news, Salamanca player Miguel García was released from the hospital yesterday!
