Xabi Alonso is one of the famous people to support Médicos Sin Fronteras (Doctors Without Borders)’s new campaign, “pastillas contra el dolor ajeno” (pills for someone else’s pain).

The concept is simple: a symbolic act.  For €1, you can go to a pharmacy and buy a special pack of six mints.  The proceeds will go to help those forgotten people who are in pain.

Other famous Spanish personalities who have participated in the campaign include Alejandro Sanz, Andrés Iniesta, Ferran Adrià, Estopa…

Translation of what Xabi says and ways you can help…

Xabi is helping to alleviate the pain of Sam, a kid with AIDS, and all the others like him who lack the money and the access to antiviral drugs and tests.  He says, “Sam is 10 years old and has AIDS.  Today, children with AIDS can be treated, but they need more medication and diagnostic tests, because the majority are only for adults.  Without treatment, half of the children born with HIV will die before they turn two years old.  The problem is simple: without access to treatment, there’s no cure.  For your health, Sam.”

Muy bien Xabi, muy bien.

If you live in Spain, you can help out by purchasing the “pills” at a pharmacy.  Or, you can make a donation here (web site is in Spanish).
