As mentioned previously, Iker will shortly begin to collaborate with the UNDP (United Nations Development Program) as a goodwill ambassador.  The formal announcement will take place in Geneva on Dec. 9, which Iker will attend (the club will charter a private plane for him), but we can already see Iker in a United Nations comic book, whose characters are all footballers who work with the UN’s various agencies as goodwill ambassadors:  Raúl, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Viera, Drobga, Adebayor, Roberto Baggio and Michael Ballack.

As ambassador, Iker will travel to areas where the UN has launched projects against poverty (most likely Latin America and Africa); appear in PSAs and the like (example here); and participate in international conferences.

It was Zinedine Zidane who had initiated the contact between Iker and the UNDP.  Speaking of Zidane, Iker is expected to participate in the eighth edition of the game against poverty organized by Zidane and Ronaldo, scheduled against Olympiacos in Athens on Dec. 15.  The money raised from this game will go to help people in Pakistan and Haiti (flood and earthquake, respectively, victims).  Tickets go on sale on Nov. 29.

Iker’s got a busy December in front of him!
