getting this out of the way…

December 1, 2010

Let’s get all the non-agreeable news out of the way, so we can start enjoying being madridistas again!

Yesterday, UEFA handed down the sentence for what they deemed “unsporting behavior” during the Ajax game on Nov. 23.  José Mourinho was slapped with a two-game ban.  Mou will serve the first game of the sentence when he sits out the Auxerre game on Dec. 8 (no word on whether UEFA will allow him to coach from a seat in the stands right next to the bench like he did during the two Liga games he was suspended) while the second game will depend on his behavior over the next three years (i.e. if UEFA feels that he has violated his parole, they’ll suspend him).  He was also fined €40,000.

Meanwhile, Xabi and Sergio were fined €20,000 each, Iker €10,000 and Jerzy Dudek €5,000.  The club itself was fined €120,000, meaning that they’ll pay a total of €215,000, since I’m pretty sure the players/coach won’t have to pay this out of their own pockets.  Madrid will appeal the decision, since to their understanding there are no rules that state that these types of alleged behavior are to be sanctioned.  In addition, the referee from the game and the delegate from UEFA did not note any irregularities in their match reports.

Xabi and Sergio will also miss the game against Auxerre, their penalty for receiving red cards in the Ajax game.  Of course, that’s not the only game that Sergio will be missing, since the RFEF has punished him with a one game suspension for his actions (“acting in a violent matter against another footballer”) in the game against Barcelona.  The referee had justified the red card by writing, “he tacked an opponent from behind, without the possibility of getting the ball.”  Ricardo Carvalho will also serve a one game suspension for receiving his fifth yellow card.  Both players will miss the Valencia game, and will be replaced by Álvaro Arbeloa and Raúl Albiol.

Also likely to miss the game is Gonzalo Higuaín, still suffering from back problems, which means that Karim Benzema could get another chance.  Initial tests have confirmed that Pipita has a herniated disc, and he’ll submit to more tests today in the Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja, and the best method of treatment will be determined after that.

In slightly better news, Rafa Nadal, during the AS awards, talked about the Barcelona-Madrid game.  He joked about how hard it was for him to lose the Masters Cup and then to see his beloved Madrid lose back-to-back.  He also revealed later that he had sent a text message of support to Cristiano after the game, along with several other players (and he also sent some congratulatory messages to the rival team).

Iker was also present at the awards, since he was picking up one on behalf of the Spanish national team, along with Vicente del Bosque, but he didn’t say anything to the press, due to a Madrid gag order.  That was also the reason why Sergio Ramos, Álvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso were no-shows at the presentation of the Chocrón charity catalog last night (Sergio had participated in this photo session for that catalog).

Im not commenting on the UEFA charges or red cards….Im too tired…

Did Pipita’s injury happen during training? I hope all that “out for two months” talk is just a rumor…

“(Sergio had participated in this photo session for that catalog).” —-linking to pictures, Im seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! 😉

Did UEFA really fine the goalkeepers because of Marca’s photo montage detective work? There’s no way they can prove that Iker and Dudek relayed the message. What a bunch of clowns.

Rafael Nadal is a sweet kid.

All I can say is, HORSESHIT.

It is only with RM that UEFA shows its muscles. Strange? No. Because the RM administration is so weak that allows not only the UEFA but coaches of lesser importance (e.g. Gijon’s) to get the guts to speak loud against RM.

My point is that the administration of RM should develop a strategy that makes it next to impossible to any one to touch the Team. This needs planners, lawyers, administrators to sit together to find the proper action in this regard.

If the UEFA knows that RM would respond strongly (e.g. by counter legal action, or by threatening the UEFA that another championship might be developed) then, it would have thought 10 times before taking such exaggerated punishment.

I remember that last year, RM had a talk with the 14 BEST CLUBS in Europe to initiate another championship that is not governed by the UEFA. If this card was present in the heads of the UEFA, they would not dare to make such a fuss. The best in Madrid are its players and coach; the worst are its admin and lawyers.

Being the biggest club in the world means you have a target on your back

  6. December 1, 2010 11:06

Way to go UEFA. You effectively gave us a slap on the wrist for something that you can’t prove. Naturally you didn’t do a thing to fix the actual problem and implement some rules. And yeah, great job at targeting only us and letting everyone else off the hook by the way.

Poor Pipita. A herniated disc basically means excruciating pain. I hope and pray that he’s ok. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a really serious injury and it will mean prolonged treatment. I hope that’s not the case.

What the hell do we do for a striker now? Karim – I love him, but no we need someone else now. Shit.

Awwwwwwwwwwww Rafa. Can I admit my dirty little secret. In the beginning when he first came on the tennis scene, I did not like him, but know you can’t find a bigger fan than me. 🙂

Oh dear that does not sound good for Pipita. Every case is different i am sure but a friend of mine had surgery a month ago for a herniated disc – its not minor. I can;t see him missing only a couple of games with this, as i had read elsewhere but will hope it is not as serious as it sounds. I don’t agree with the UEFA decision but arguing anymore about it is simply flogging a dead horse. Also don;t really understand the point of the gag order on the players – it seems silly to me to be honest.

I kind of feel bad for Dudek getting fined over all this. I mean, if your coach asks you to give a message to another player… what did UEFA expect him to do? Say “Sorry Mourinho, I’m morally opposed to your strategy and won’t tell Iker?” Unlikely.

UEFA clearly has not heard the saying “Dont shoot the messenger.”

      LOL! I agree. Poor Jerzy!
Well not poor, really, he’s wealthy. And I doubt he’s going to pay the fine!

I must say I’m a bit bemused by the fines for something that’s not *actually* against the rules… but whatever, UEFA. You’ve made your point.

Trying to make the best of going without Sergio & Carvalho: I guess at least this means Mou will call up a canterano or two as backup?

The news about Pipita is realllyyy not good – I hope he has a fast recovery, both because herniated discs are a misery, and because we NEED him. Love the Benz, but that ketchup bottle still isn’t exploding!

Lastly: I love Rafa. The fact that he can joke about losing the Masters and the Clásico in the same breath… pure class. Wonder what he said to everyone? (And uh, can I have five minutes alone with his phone, please? He must have an incredible contacts list!)

I’m just thankful there weren’t any extended bans slapped on Xabi & Ramos!
oh no… Pipita we need you!! This is really such awful news.. A herniated disc is no joke & from what I know it’s excruciatingly painful & takes forever to recover from
Poor Pipita, I’m anxious to hear more on his condition. Hopefully it’s not as dreadful as we’re thinking & he’ll be back even before he’s really missed (I say it though I know it’s untrue, if anything I’m feeling his absence already!)

Seriously, this is a joke. How can you even prove what was said. There is no admission of guilt by anyone. So you take pictures from a media outlet and make a ruling based off what you think you know.

Is this how law and legal contracts work in Spain? If so, I weep for the Spanish people, because this is a trainwreck.

Personally, I believe they did it. However, in the USA (yeah guys I know, Spains not the US, lol) there is a saying that we have in our legal system….’It doesn’t matter what you know, it only matters what you can prove.’ Actually, that was a line from a Few Good Men, hahaha, but I do have some lawyer friends, and they essentially say the samething.

Am probably veering way off topic here Evita but am not really sure any differences between Spanish and US law or any other law are relevant (or a Tom Cruise movie for that matter – ha ha) as UEFA have their own governing and disciplinary bodies, regulations, appeals system etc so they aren’t really applying “Spanish” law when they discipline RM players or coaches. Clubs, players, coaches officials etc submit to UEFA’s rules when they participate in UEFAs matches. Agree though that the decision here in particular is BS. Anyhow, sorry if I missed this somewhere but have they decided to appeal?

why is there a madrid gag order? why aren’t thy allowed to speak and for how long?

  16. December 1, 2010 21:38

WTF they can’t prove it. It’s just speculations. This is so unfair. I hope we win the appeal.

Sergio, Ricardo, Higuain, and probably CR are not playing against Valencia. I hate to say this but we are screwed. Oh God please let us win this.
I’m so sad for Pipita. I’ll really miss him. 2 months is just too much. I hope he gets better soon. On the bright side we’ll see more of Karim and hopefully he’ll prove himself worthy.

Aww Nadal, we win together we lose together.

Why couldn’t the players and the coach have been subject to polygraph tests? That would prove beyond all doubt whether they were guilty or not!
