all set for Zaragoza!

December 11, 2010

Twenty players have been called up for Zaragoza, including two canteranos, Álvaro Morata once again (fingers crossed he finally gets to debut) and Fernando Pacheco, coming in for the injured Jerzy Dudek.  Watch the training video here to see Pepe, in his capacity as canterano cheerleader, welcome these two boys!

The surprise was the exclusion of Sergio Ramos, who is suffering from a sprained right knee and will be out for two to three weeks (!!!).  But even if he were available, he wouldn’t start, because according to Mou: “Arbeloa was going to be a starter tomorrow, he knew he would play in Zaragoza two days ago, not because Sergio Ramos can’t play, but because Arbeloa deserves it for how he’s been playing.  The substitutes are playing very well… and we always have to leave the door to starting open to them, to let them know that the situation isn’t fixed.  This is what happened with Arbeloa.”  That’s certainly great for Álvaro, since he’ll get to start the one game in his hometown!

Some Mouisms from the press conference:

on Claus Bo Larsen saying that Cristiano is football’s biggest diver: he’s an intelligent referee because intelligent people know how to get themselves into the spotlight.  One of those ways is to talk about Cristiano and it appears that Larsen understood this.  CR is a top player, but the referee in question is very normal, no one will remember him when he retires.

on Dani Alves saying that people speak of Mourinho as if he had invented football: we have to learn from intelligent people.  Einstein couldn’t have said better what Alves said.  A Portuguese discovered his country, but he’s right, it wasn’t a Portuguese that invented football.

on whether he’d go for a trivote once more: I have a big problem: with the injury to Higuaín, there’s only one forward, so I can do two things.  If I start Benzema, I won’t have another forward on the bench and if I leave Benzema on the bench, I have to change the system and play with three in the middle.  It’s like hunting with a cat.  Obviously, if you go hunting with a dog you’d catch more and if you do it with a cat, less.  But you’d still go hunting and in the same way that I haven’t cried during the six-month absence of Kaká, I’m not going to cry now because of the absence of Higuaín.

Anyway, the list looks like this:

Goalkeepers: Casillas, Adán, Pacheco.

Defenders: Arbeloa, Pepe, Albiol, Mateos, Carvalho, Garay, Marcelo.
Midfielders: Lass, Diarra, Granero, Xabi Alonso, Özil, Di María, Pedro León.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Morata.

This is Pacheco’s second call-up with the team (the first time was against Sporting).  He’s 18 years old, the starter of the Juvenil A team, and in his fourth year at Real Madrid.  He was born in Puebla de Obando (Badajoz, Extremadura).

Meanwhile, Iker will play his 400th Liga game tomorrow in La Romareda!  This will move him into ninth on Madrid’s all time list, and before the season is over, he should move past legends such as Míchel (404), Camacho (414) and Pirri (417) to sixth place.

And La Romareda has been a good, good field for Madrid.  Some of the recent lasting memories:

Oct. 29, 1994: Raúl made his debut with Real Madrid.  He ended up scoring 13 goals in 26 games against Zaragoza, including his 100th goal in the Liga.

Aug. 20, 2001: Zidane made his debut with Real Madrid, in the Supercopa, which ended 1-1.  Madrid won the trophy in the second leg at the Bernabéu, behind a Raúl hat trick.

June 9, 2007: The score was 1-2 in favor of Zaragoza, with the Liga on the line.  In the 88th minute, Ruud van Nistelrooy scored his second goal of the game.  At the same time (the stars must have aligned), Tamudo scored for Espanyol at the Camp Nou, tying the game up at 2-2 as well.  This meant that for Madrid to win the Liga, they had to beat Mallorca at home.  They did.  What a magical, crazy night that was!!!!!

April 24, 2010: Fittingly, Raúl made his last appearance in the Liga with Real Madrid against Zaragoza.  He scored in that game, which Madrid ended up winning 2-1, despite being injured.  Figo and Míchel also said goodbye to Real Madrid at La Romareda.

What Mou said about that referee was spot on and his reply to Alves is extremely funny and just genius!
I am so happy for Álvaro but at the same time I am sad for Sergio.

He has a bruise to his right tibial muscle, plus he’s suspended for this game.

poor sergio. get well soon love. but proud of alvaro playing so well! that ref was way, way, way out of line with his comments. i was disgusted when i read that. though there is truth to it, you as a professional ref should NEVER come out and say something like that against a player. but heaven forbid if any of our players came out and critised him :S
Dani Alves, for the love of God, shut your mouth. I really loath him. He has no respect for anyone but himself. Good on Mou, it was a funny comment.

you are not the only one…..I can’t wait to see him, but if he’s going to be out for 2-3 weeks, that sets us to see him in January:((

Not a fair Christmas this is!:-<

Mou always has the best responses, even if I don’t always agree with them (although here I do – Larsen and Alves need to sit down). But he has never gone hunting with my cats clearly – he would catch a lot:).

Surprised to read about Sergio’s injury – how did it happen?. Nice that Arbeloa gets a start though – he does deserve it in my view.

Thanks for bringing in Mou today. And wow, he can destroy any stupid guy by one word, calling him intelligent, then everybody laughs. Lovely Mou, he knows how to smash them, in the field and on the bench. His apparent snobbish attitude irritates those who are small, so, let it be. We adore him.

Oh forgot to say something about the official Real Madrid webpage. I haven’t seen such BORING page. My god, somebody should tell them to make it a bit more alive. I can volunteer to finance a lively web site for RM. The webmaster seems to be still living in the 1990s, he reminds me of my grandpa, really…

omg! I completely agree with you. That website is sooo boring. Not only that, there are limited photos and the commentary on the videos is also boring. Perhaps you could be the financier and I could do the commentary along with writing some decent articles! It’s way too bare bones of a site for a club like RM.

As happy as I am for Alvaro, who plays very well, I am sad for Serhiooo. I am wondering if there’s a way to include both Sergio and Alvaro in starting 11….

Not only it seems the last and next weeks were and will not be the best for Sergio (suspension, Puyol-slapping, not playing, injury), but I will terribly miss him! I hope he will have some off-pitch official appearances….But surely, on mental level, it is not a good situation, it’s been a while since he had a very good match (playing wise, not looking hot-wise)

and it all started with those red cards in Amsterdam – 2/4 players involved in the “incident” (Dudek, Sergio) are having trouble now…

Maybe a little bit of down time will help Serhio refocus his energy. He’s still a very special boy who knows how to play the game very well.

Aaaah I was really looking forward to a Sexio Sunday 😥
I read this on twitter and will sulk for the rest of the weekend…”Sergio Ramos will miss Real Madrid’s final three games of 2010″ or maybe for the rest of 2010! 😛

Ok I dont want to say that Im glad that Sergio is injured…but I think seeing him benched would have hurt a lot more…I hope he has a speedy recovery and is starting again in January! HALA MADRID!

Awww poor Sergio. I just love Mou and his witty comments. Even if Cris is/isnt you are a PROFESSIONAL REF you do not speak about those things OUTLOUD. Duh! Now everyone is going to think you are gunning for Cris when you are reffing. It’ll be his excuse everytime now.

So does that mean Sergio will not be doing his charity game? OR am I thinking of something else

Arrrggghhhh is EVERYONE injured or suspended??

lol Pepe, big hugs to Pacheco and Morata. He’s so nice to them, him and Ronaldo.

Wouldn’t it be awesome for Morata to debut in the same stadium as Raúl?! I mean since he gets compared to Raúl a lot and everything… Ah, *fingers crossed for him*

In Brazil, people didn’t think the reply to Dani Alves funny at all. But I think this stupid talker so annoying and disrespectful that I wasn’t even offended by Mourinho’s comment. Actually, I was a little concerned because he seemed so depressed after the-game-that-must-not-be-named. Now, he seems to have returned to Mourinho that we love. Nothing like a verbal knockout to lift the spirit, right?
I’m so happy for Alvaro. He is so dedicate and work so much, he really deserves this recognition. At same time, I’m sad for Sergio. It seems the last few days have been hard for him. I hope he regains his form and his confidence. I already miss him. I actually have a missing list with Kaka and Higuain on the top. Come back as soon as possible, boys.

OMG I LOVE Mou! His comments about the ref & Alves are epic!

I just read on the RM webpage about Sergio but there wasn’t any other article mentioning how or when he got hurt. Last I saw he was practicing with the team so maybe it was during practice? Anyway, he couldn’t play anyway.

I’m happy for Arbeloa (he’s on my RM fantasy team on FB hehehehe) but IMO he’s not been playing better than Sergio. Granted Sergio hasn’t been at his best lately but still… I remember hearing the commentators say that Arbeloa was “normally” a left back (maybe at his EPL club?). So if Sergio was playing right back, Arbeloa would have to replace Marcelo. It could happen but….

Talk about over-reaching ones-self. Poor Alves – one too many balls to the head, apparently!

You do not ever try to get into a war of words with Mourinho. “The Translator” can verbally destroy you in 5 different languages.

Only one of a dozen reasons why he’s The Special One.

So…in completely shallow news, looks like Xabi got himself a haircut. 😉

Good game today. Beautiful Ozil goal, glorious Ronaldo free kick, and Di Maria’s goal was the cherry on top. So nice to see Morata making his debut.

Looking forward to having Khedira back and Sergio after the first of the year. Any further update on Pipita’s condition?

So Xabi and Marcelo are out against Sevilla. It’s going to be interesting with all the injuries.

  24. December 13, 2010 12:41

I could not watch the match, but I read that Morata played, Crispy scored an amazing goal and Xabi will not play in the next match because of the cards (as well as Marcelo?)

So, while waiting to read (or – to watch the gifs LOL) the next ICYMI, I am haveing reflections on the team and they are not so pesimistic as it might seem;-)

Anyway, looking at the bright side – with a lot of starters temporarily not able to play, it’s a chance to try everyone and also bring some confidence and playing time to the ones who are usually not playing. It can only for for good in the future. it is very important that the “bench-players” have confidence enough, so when they have to play, they are not stressed and they do not loose their playing qualities because of the mental aspects, if you know what I mean.

Also, some competition in the team did not hurt anyone, if it’s a friendly competition and everyone feels they need to work hard to earn their spot, it can be only used for the benefit of the team.

Sergio seems to be going thru a spell, but as TI and Chris Brown so ably put it “When they push you down you gotta get back up, brush the dirt off your jersey then go for the cup …..CHAMPION NO MATTER WHAT”
He’ll be back and better than ever.
