denial watch I

December 18, 2010

I thought it would be interesting to keep tabs on the reactions to the Cristiano vs. Iker story.  So, here are the denials in chronological order.  I’ll keep updating it until the press tires of asking about it, which I hope will be soon.

Dec. 15

– Lass, press conference:  “Everything’s good between Iker and Cristiano.  Iker is the captain and Cristiano is one of the leaders.”

– Xabi, COPE interview:  “It’s an urban legend.  Obviously, there are small groups that have more in common with each other, but the main group is united, with no conflicts.”

Dec. 16

– Di María, press conference:  “The group has been very united since we went to Los Angeles.  A great and strong group has formed, the locker room is a piña.”

Dec. 17

– Iker, Clinica Menorca event:   “There are people who want to create controversy and say there is a bad atmosphere when the truth is the opposite.  Cristiano and I get along very well.  Each person is different, but that doesn’t mean that there’s distance between us or a confrontation.  There are no groups or cliques.  Marcelo is a fantastic and jovial kid, as is Pepe, and Cristiano as well.  In the locker room, there is a great atmosphere.  We have to get move on and stop talking about stupid things.”

– Özil, AS interview:  “I look around in the locker room and I see that [Iker and Cristiano] get along perfectly fine.  That’s why I don’t think there’s anything true about that.

– Real Madrid web site, being very subtle:

Dec. 18

– Mou, press conference:  “this is news that comes out when there’s nothing else, in order to sell papers.  There are some news that do less harm, such as signings that are lies, and others that harm the image of the players.  But that’s all, we don’t have any problems in the locker room…. we don’t have internal problems.”

Dec. 20

– the club sends Iker and Cristiano to the same hospital to hand out presents.

– Sergio Ramos, to the press:  everything that is said is a pantomime.  We all get along and there is a lot of unity on this team.  Those who want to destabilize the team will not succeed.  These types of things don’t affect us.

Putting up that picture on the Real Madrid website actually does the opposite for me. It makes me think there really is something going on. Why would they even react to such a story? It almost gives the story some validity. Just ignore it.

Kai I understand where you’re coming from. If there are no issues why address them? However, in the last few years I’ve come to the conclussion when it involves work sometimes you need to acknowledge that you’re aware of the bullshit that ‘s being said and put your own disinformation out there. For some people ignoring it gives them the idea that they’re right, and they continue to carry on their horse sh@@ lies and they can morph into something else. You can’t let it consume you, but you can acknowledge that it’s a misconception and keep it movin.

While I agree that the picture is a bit overkill. But I hate that the press is still on this, even when EVERYONE has given the exact same answer to the question. Aren’t they bored yet? I sure am.

Putting that pic out there does not NOTHING to stop the rumors , in the contrary it fuels them.I still believe that while the media like to blow things out of proportion there IT SOMETHING GOING ON.
I prefer Xabi answers the most who said that they all get along very well but of course they will be PLAYERS WHO GET ALONG MORE WITH OTHERS.I like that he is straightforward.
    Because I think that C

sorry I didnt finish my last reply correctly.I believe that Cris and Iker get along very well but Cris gets along MORE with kaka, celo, pepe, di maria…. while Iker would gets along more with ramos, and xabi for example nothing wrong in that.

I thought Xabi’s response sounded the most reasonable too. There are always people on a team that get along better with some of their teammates than with others. Does that mean there’s conflicts? No. But to say that there must be problems because they think “so and so” celebrates more with “so and so” after a goal is ridiculous.

I think people see what they want to see. Maybe people expected there would be problems after Portugal beat Spain in that friendly? Who knows? But all you have to do is look at some of the videos/pix of practice and see that these guys get along fine. Like Iker said…time to move on.

Cris and Xabi actually talk quite a bit… The whole thing is stupid, since everyone on the team has a few “best” friends.

Unfortunately I think this is one of those situations where ignoring it altogether would only imply they cannot contradict the story. By making a statement -written or oral – it would only be pulled apart by the media and fan the flames. Picture is the smart choice and what a fine picture it is – Iker’s warm smile and Cris’ back (look how that jersey hugs his torso!)

The best part is all the interviews from different players! I want everyone to be interviewed! I want to hear from alllll the lovelies!

I don’t think the issue is as bad as it is being made out to be, but it’s possible something is going on. I could see how Cristiano could feel very hurt by what both Sara Carbanero & Iker have said about him. Cristiano is the face of Real Madrid and there has to be a ton of pressure on him. It’s almost as if the club’s success depends completely on him. Not only that, he must feel a lot of pressure to perform to feel that his transfer fee was justified. If the captain of his squad is not backing him up, it is natural for him to feel betrayed.

One thing that I found a little strange is that from a lot of what I have read about the new signings & their reception to the club and players, is that they all have remarked how welcoming Cristiano had been. They all seemed to say that he has helped them settle in. No one really said much about Iker & Sergio who are the captains of the squad. Don’t get me wrong, I love both players to bits. Just thought it was kind of weird. Who knows, maybe Iker is a little jealous that a lot of the new players seem to love Cristiano so much.

On the other hand, I do not expect every player to be the best of friends, but it seems like the international players are definitely friendlier with one another. The Spaniards seem to be a separate group. I am guessing that might be because they are a little older and are married and have children (with the exception of Sergio & Iker). Obviously, this is pure speculation. It’s not likes I know or ever will know any of the players. We can only guess what is going on. Sorry for writing an essay in the comment section!

Even if everything’s fine. I still think Iker should’ve kept the comments of the best player of the world according to him to himself. That was so unecessary and it makes people create more controversy. I still think is so rude and disrespectful to say it when you have an outstanding player that is also consider the best player in the world as your TEAMMATE. Any way, i don’t blame Iker all the way, i think some of his reactions have to do with his relationship, you know who wears the pants in that relationship.

I guess there’s are little disagreements between Cris and Iker but I think that the media is just exaggerating the whole issue.
