the Christmas lunch – a fashion review
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see too much of the players at the Christmas lunch, and when we did see them, a lot of them were wearing jackets or coats, so we couldn’t see what they were wearing inside. However, based on the pictures that we do have, I can make some fashion commentary, and it looks like our players have been influencing each other!
Arbeloa was true to form and wore a t-shirt. Xabi looked his usual GQ self, but I thought his sweater was too short, exposing too much of his button down shirt. Sergio had shiny stuff on his shoulders, and wore a familiar looking pair of pants (but familiarity does not lead to acceptance. If you recall, he wore them about slightly more than one year ago, at the presentation of last year’s Africa game. Is it worrying that I remember things like this?). He also went easy on the hair gel…
… because perhaps Mesut and Sami used it all up. Meanwhile, Kaká repeated his outfit from the day the players were given their Audis. You know, the one that makes him look 30 years older. El Pirata was his usual, laid-back, hipster self, and I love Antonio for bringing some color in! Very festive and very appropriate! He was also probably the only one in a tie.
Was Pepe trying to steal (left) Cristiano’s scarf (the one that so subtly says Armani) because his own (right) looked like this? Pepe really has the most interesting and original scarf collection, doesn’t he? Let’s just hope he doesn’t decide to hand them out as Christmas presents for his teammates…
Zidane looked dapper in his suit and Diarra took some stylin’ cues from Lass, because he looked just like Lass had at the Premios Almas. On this occasion, Lass’ pants were too high-waisted for my liking.
There’s not much to say about Gago’s outfit, but I’m so glad he decided to get rid of the mullet. Pipita looked adorable in his leather (or plastic?) jacket (it looks so soft that you want to reach out and touch him it, no?) but Garay failed in his plaid zip-up.
Benzema was the only one who opted not to go for dark winter colors. Instead, he showed up in a very light outfit. Did he attend Iker Fashion 101 (an oxymoron, I know)?
See, Iker and Cris do get along, or else why would Cris borrow Iker’s style tips (an oxymoron, I know)? He sported blinding bright white sneakers, which he has done before, but it was Iker who made them famous last season.
And now moving on to Iker. I bet you’re thinking (1) Iker really loves this white shirt/black jacket combo as of late and (2) hurray! No plaid! He looks quite decent, no? Dark jeans, dark shoes, no scarves…
But you may have cheered too soon, because look at the pattern inside his little hood… Plaid. Plaid. Plaid.
But I can forgive him, because at least he didn’t unleash this monstrosity (don’t look too long, your eyes will go on strike) on us again, which he wore earlier in the week while also handing out presents. And he really loves sweaters/jackets with those toggle closures lately, no? Iker Paddington Bear.
Iker. Paddington. Bear.
Just so you know Una, that phrase never left me since you mentioned it. And would it be presumptuous of me to assume that one of the reasons you think Iker has changed for the worst is his fashion sense? Did his fashion sense really changed for the worst? Hahaha.
Iker’s fashion sense can never get any worse. Only better. 😛
hilarious article Una:) Job well done.I thought that all the guys were pretty much well dressed yes even Iker ,Sergio and Cris:)
It’s taken me a long time to read through this entire post as I foolishly decided to peek at the photos before reading the commentary, so of course Iker’s “funky” jeans were the cause of the delay..
..So let me get this straight, Iker exposed those jeans to kids?!
What the hell is that liquidy, shiny stuff on Sergio’s shoulder? Nonetheless, he looks so handsome in the photo on the — actually no, ALL his photos! 😀
“Let’s just hope he doesn’t decide to hand them out as Christmas presents for his teammates…” — 😮 I can totally imagine him doing that! ..Oh the horror.. Well at least we know that a certain few receivers of Pepe’s scarfs would actually wear them (not that that’s anything to be proud of..).
Over all, not too disappointing. All credit goes to Madrid’s weather for not allowing them all to wear horrendous capris and tacky t-shirts.
Oh and PIPITA!!! 😀
Pipita’s jacket looks more like one of his beloved quilted jackets.
Sergio’s hair! sigh…why can’t he always keep it like this? Don’t you just want to reach out and touch/tug it? unfffffff!
The Ramos’ hair sans gel look sweet and puffy, kinda cool. I totally wanna touch his head and see how it feels like LOL
exactly what I was thinking. The non-gelled version is much better!
And lol @ Sami. Looks like he’s been taking his cue from Sergio!
Iker Paddington Bear. <—OMG that is a perfect description!
The guys look good. I'm glad to see that some (Ozil, Arbeloa) stuck to their own style with the tees. I know that some of the guys styles are a "little" iffy but that's what makes them who they are. 🙂
I’m sorry, but I love plaid & wait….I also love toggle closures!! lol! Iker shouldn’t overdo it, though. 🙂 He is a little Real Madrid Paddington Bear. All he needs is a little yellow rain hat. What I would like to figure out is why footballers are obsessed with having a million holes in their jeans???? Benz may not have been the sharpest dressed man, but it was nice to see him actually smiling!
Give up Unamadridista. Iker is never going to make you happy the way he dresses. Me thinks that you have high standards for Iker because he is your favorite 🙂 Just remember he’s good looking regardless of how many styling gaffes he makes.
Iker Paddington Bear on top and ripped jeans at the bottom. OH NO.
And thank god Sergio went easy on the hair gel. Much sexier that way.
Fun post – I don’t mind the plaid; or the scarves, or the puffy-shiny jacket or the Paddington Bear cardie with toggles. However Iker’s ripped up jeans are just painful. I’m ALMOST immune to male fashion disasters because of years of seeing a father, uncles, brothers and husband who couldn’t dress themselves properly either. Many footballers don’t seem to have a better fashion sense than the average guy. But the torn jeans are a tipping point; it’s obvious that help is urgently needed – or send Iker some needles and thread!
Im not a Real fan and i agree wat different trainers and players are saying cause its true so many other teams get screwed over by the refs and by the league they dont say anything.. and isnt Real and Mourniho happy in the postion that they claim rite now in la liga im pretty sure he did it to get attention which is stupid and yeah he is cry baby..so yeah no wonder he’s keeping his mouth shut..
I commend Sexio for his efforts at getting into the Christmas spirit with his drummer boy/nutcracker-esque striped outfit 😉
And my advice to Pepe….leave the Lenny Kravitz look to Lenny Kravitz! 😛
Sergio’s hair is so luscious….nice, when it’s sans gel…!
does anybody have a link to a video of the christmas party??????????
Oh man, Sergio should always go without gel in his hair. He looks adorbs. I’d skip the shiny crap on the sweater though.
I think Pepe looks rather dashing in his aviators and scarf. The scarf is…challenging, but he looks good.
And shame on Iker for wearing those hideous jeans to hand out prezzies. What on earth was he thinking?!
I’m not a big fan of white sneakers – I think they look dreadful so Cris gets a thumbs down for me on that.
And nice to see that Sami is continuing to morph into The Ramos 2.0 LOL!
Love Sergio’s hair and Pipita’s leather/plastic jacket (even though he owns heaven knows how many versions of that jacket but I love him anyway).
Cris actually looks decent-if you ignore the scarf and shoes!
I just read that Sergio Ramos is dating a reporter Lara Alvarez. I want to know if it’s true. Since you are such an expert on Real Madrid and its players could you find out if it’s true please?
It was reported by the newspaper El Mundo, in a supplement, and they say they’ve been dating since the summer. If it’s true, I can see why Sergio would try and keep it a secret.
