the Christmas lunch – a fashion review

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see too much of the players at the Christmas lunch, and when we did see them, a lot of them were wearing jackets or coats, so we couldn’t see what they were wearing inside.  However, based on the pictures that we do have, I can make some fashion commentary, and it looks like our players have been influencing each other!

Arbeloa was true to form and wore a t-shirt.  Xabi looked his usual GQ self, but I thought his sweater was too short, exposing too much of his button down shirt.  Sergio had shiny stuff on his shoulders, and wore a familiar looking pair of pants (but familiarity does not lead to acceptance.  If you recall, he wore them about slightly more than one year ago, at the presentation of last year’s Africa game.  Is it worrying that I remember things like this?).  He also went easy on the hair gel…

… because perhaps Mesut and Sami used it all up.  Meanwhile, Kaká repeated his outfit from the day the players were given their Audis.  You know, the one that makes him look 30 years older.  El Pirata was his usual, laid-back, hipster self, and I love Antonio for bringing some color in!  Very festive and very appropriate!  He was also probably the only one in a tie.

Was Pepe trying to steal (left) Cristiano’s scarf (the one that so subtly says Armani) because his own (right) looked like this?  Pepe really has the most interesting and original scarf collection, doesn’t he?  Let’s just hope he doesn’t decide to hand them out as Christmas presents for his teammates…

Zidane looked dapper in his suit and Diarra took some stylin’ cues from Lass, because he looked just like Lass had at the Premios Almas.  On this occasion, Lass’ pants were too high-waisted for my liking.

There’s not much to say about Gago’s outfit, but I’m so glad he decided to get rid of the mullet.  Pipita looked adorable in his leather (or plastic?) jacket (it looks so soft that you want to reach out and touch him it, no?) but Garay failed in his plaid zip-up.

Benzema was the only one who opted not to go for dark winter colors.  Instead, he showed up in a very light outfit.  Did he attend Iker Fashion 101 (an oxymoron, I know)?

See, Iker and Cris do get along, or else why would Cris borrow Iker’s style tips (an oxymoron, I know)?  He sported blinding bright white sneakers, which he has done before, but it was Iker who made them famous last season.

And now moving on to Iker.  I bet you’re thinking (1) Iker really loves this white shirt/black jacket combo as of late and (2) hurray!  No plaid!  He looks quite decent, no?  Dark jeans, dark shoes, no scarves…

But you may have cheered too soon, because look at the pattern inside his little hood…  Plaid.  Plaid.  Plaid.

But I can forgive him, because at least he didn’t unleash this monstrosity (don’t look too long, your eyes will go on strike) on us again, which he wore earlier in the week while also handing out presents.  And he really loves sweaters/jackets with those toggle closures lately, no?  Iker Paddington Bear.
