when, where and how long…
… are the only questions that remain unanswered as to Gonzalo Higuaín’s current situation, as in when and where will he be operated on for his herniated disc, and how long will we have to be without him. All those questions should be answered within the next 48 hours (from yesterday), though Marca is reporting that a specialist from Chicago is the chosen one, and that the surgery will take place next Monday or Tuesday.
On Sunday, José Mourinho revealed at a press conference that Pipita was going to be operated on, and said he would be out for six months (i.e. the rest of the season). On Monday, the Higuaíns returned to Madrid from Argentina, but our boy refused to say anything. And yesterday, the two Pipas met with the medical and technical staffs of the club, as well as directors, after which Madrid released an official communique saying that surgery was going to the option to solve the herniated disc.
In the release, the club was obviously trying to make people feel better, because they said that the treatment Gonzalo received in the last four weeks will allow for a simpler surgical procedure and a reduction in rehab time. That time is expected to be two months, which is much more optimistic than Mourinho’s six months.
Two presents that all fans should hope the Reyes Magos bring: (1) a quick recovery for Pipita, and (2) for Benzema to really step it up during this time when Gonzalo is out.

I am glad that there is a chance for Gonzalo to be back before the end of the season. I’m sure Karim will do well. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. 🙂
I really liked what Kaka had to say about people encouraging Pipita, after sharing his own experience during the injury.
I can only imagine what must be going thru Pipita’s mind. I know that medicine has come a long way but any operation on a back has to be scary, even with the best doctors money can buy.
I’m glad his parents came back with him. Regardless of his superstar status, he really is still a “kid” (he’s only about 4 1/2 years older than my daughter so to me…he’s still pretty young. 😉 ).
Hopefully, fans are blowing up his twitter to let him know that they’re pulling for him. I also get the feeling that Kaka will be a good source of support for him too.
I’m trying to stay positive about Benzema but I must admit that I’m glad there are other scoring weapons on Mardrid because I just don’t see Karim doing that well against the better teams. But even if he can help set up the other players, I guess that will help too.
oh he is very young I guess, like 21 or something 🙂 I am sure his twitter is full of support messages, I don’t actually follow it, I stay with a few of our boys only, otherwise it would be too time-consuming and my education would go to pieces 😉
I believe in Karim Deb and I hope Mou will bring us someone new this year, Klose or Adebayor are fine for me 😉
our boy, we miss you!
If he’s on the pitch in two months, IMO, that would be un milagro! I’m sure the docs will play it conservative though after such a surgery.
As much as I’d love to see him playing soon, my only hope that he will be relieved of the pain a slipped lumbar disc can mean and has a full recovery!
He tweeted thanks for the support last night. I’m sure he’s getting a lot of it.
i already sent him a tweet wishing him all the best! He needs it now.
anyone saw that video of support for Gonzalo by Cazorla this morning? That was really sweet of him! He knows what hes talking about!
Cazorla is a sweet boy 🙂
I actually haven’t seen that! 😮
Can you please tell me where to find it?

Muchas gracias, Una!
(I love Santi!) *gasp* I didn’t say that here.. 😉
It’s alright, I love him too and I don’t see how anyone could not love him.
he will be operated next tuesday in Chicago by the best specialist for herniated discs.I wish him all the best for that!
Benzema this is your time! shine on!!
