all set for Sevilla!!
Madrid trained this morning in their last session before tomorrow’s Copa del Rey semifinal ida game against Sevilla. The session, in which 23 players participated, was held in the Alfredo Di Stéfano rather than one of the usual training fields. Sami Khedira was back with the group, and was able to train normally. There was one new face, Castilla keeper Tomás “Tomy” Mejías, who had returned from a shoulder injury last week that had kept him out for months (he was operated on on Sept. 1). The absences were Dudek, Pepe and Pipita.
During the session, Cris made hip circles; the Basques stood next to each other and the Di Stéfano nearly self-combusted out of hotness; Marcelo was disguised as a ninja; and Iker got intimate with the ground.

José Mourinho called up all of the available players on the first team, as well as Tomy (Fernando Pacheco is on duty with the Spanish U-19 team).
Goalkeepers: Iker, Adán, Mejías.
Defenders: Carvalho, Sergio Ramos, Mateos, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Albiol, Garay.
Midfielders: Gago, Lass, Diarra, Khedira, Granero, Xabi Alonso, Pedro León, Di María, Canales, Kaká, Özil.
Forwards: Cristiano, Benzema.
Meanwhile, it came as a surprise to everyone that it was Aitor Karanka who gave the habitual post-training press conference, rather than José Mourinho. The reason was that our coach wanted to cool things down, after Sevilla had made several attempts to stir things up (which just shows who has class, no?). Anyway, that and not the game was the main topic at the press conference. Aitor said, “whenever he (referring to Mourinho) comes out to defend his club, he’s cautioned or sanctioned. He’s not upset, but he doesn’t want to add to the heated atmosphere that Sevilla is creating. Right now, anything he does can be the basis for disciplinary actions, even when his statements are objective. That’s why he doesn’t want to talk, so that he won’t be sanctioned.” He went on to say, “the team is united. We know who the boss is and we’re with him to the death. The only obsession we have is to win titles. I’m with him every day and he’s more and more at home in the club with each day.
And when the journalists finally got over this topic and remembered that there was a game tomorrow and asked Aitor about it, he said, “we want to be finalists, but we’re not going to war. At least on our part.” I love him!! That was the perfect thing to say.

We can’t complain at all; Karanka knows how to represent his team and boss. We are proud of Jose Mourinho’s men. Love them all. God bless…
Good statements by Karanka… glad no one is responding to that ridiculous video Sevilla made…
video?

It’s a challenge to Mourinho basically, saying they’re going to leave Madrid without the Copa title

i am missing something here, can anyone tell me? and what is this video?
http://www.theoffside.com/leagues/spain-la-liga/sevilla-threatens-war-against-mourinho-with-body-paint.html <– that video, it's a bit much if you ask me.
aa, ok i agree it is a bit too much…but anyway it made me laugh. it is ridiculous too!
Oh it has been some time since they trained at Di Stefano 🙂 I prefer the smaller training fields at Valdebebas they’re more cozy 🙂
“the Basques” – meaning who? apart from Xabi….
this is gonna be a stressful and very nervous game, I hope everything goes well.
the second photo with Alvaro and Cristiano is a masterpiece 🙂
Aitor Karanka.
what a misinformed fan am I 😦 thank you Una.
Classiness all over this post imho. Mourinho, Karanaka… ETC.
Why is Mejías replacing Pacheco? Because Pacheco was just a stand-in for Mejías and now he’s back? I’m just curious 🙂
I hope we’ll win this one and score lots of goals so the return will be easy 😛
It says so in the post – because Pacheco is away playing with the U-19 team.
Ah, sorry, I believe I missed that part 😉
I have a question..and don’t mean to stir things up again …but what video did they make? :O
Same question here. If there’s something about it one my twitter, I’ll post the link here.
For those asking about the video, you can see it here http://vimeo.com/19070177
I’m so glad Tomás is back from his shoulder injury and with the team 🙂
Karaka is such a handsome man :$
if you don’t mind me asking, how do u get the pictures from Real Madrid’s website in that size. the download button is not working for me, is it for the rest of you guys?
I have the same problem, have no idea how to download the pictures….
Una, would you please translate the bit about Karanka’s answer re Valdano being forbidden to get into the dressing room? I read it (translated by google) but did not understand. Will appreciate it very much. thanks…
Aitor basically said that he has no power to decide whether Valdano can enter or not, he doesn’t know what the coach or the club decided and that they are all doing their best to make sure the relationship is good for the sake of the club.
I know there’ll be an ICYMI for today’s game, but just had to rant: LOVED how Sergio HIT the ref… almost like he aimed it. LOL!! Can’t wait for the game recap- this is the best blog ever 🙂
I absolutely adored that part too 😀
