UPDATE: Iker didn’t wait for Mou and revealed himself that the hug (see point TWO below) was to celebrate Mou not requiring the players to be concentrados before next weekend’s derbi against Atleti (that’s why Iker said it would be revealed next week and not this week, since the game is next weekend). I assume this is because the players will be in Madrid already anyway, and so it’s probably a one-time thing, knowing Mou?
All those things and more in this news round-up!
ONE. Gonzalo Higuaín, Álvaro Arbeloa, Pedro León, Antonio Adán and madridistas Fernando Hierro, Chendo, José Antonio Camacho and Miguel Torres were all spotted at the premiere of Torrente 4: Lethal Crisis last night at the Capitol theater in Madrid (the movie comes out tomorrow). How come Sergio didn’t show up? Even if he wasn’t there, his style was present, in the form of Pipita’s green pants! He was clearly inspired by Sergio…
Carlota was looking lovely, as she usually does, and we got to see Peter Lion’s girlfriend – can I refer to her as the lioness?
Álvaro managed to tweet from the premiere, first saying that he was saying hi to Carlos Moya, and then later saying that he and Adán had managed to get a picture of themselves with Carmen de Mairena (google “her” if you want, but it’s pretty scary). Why didn’t he tweet that picture?
Meanwhile, Carlota had this to say via her twitter. Yesterday, she said she couldn’t wait to see Álvaro’s cinematographic debut, and today, she said he was very handsome in the movie, and that when he retires, he can become an actor! Álvaro replied, saying of course, from here to Hollywood! How cute that the two of them tweet each other!
And it appears that a black blazer and white shirt is the most popular combination for a Real Madrid footballer to wear right now!
TWO. With that in mind, maybe Iker was trying to be different last night, when he traveled to Ávila to be honored in their sports gala, with the black collar that reminds me of the Real Madrid shirt? Maybe that’s why, since Iker’s goalie shirt lacks that collar…
I wonder what that’s all about? I would think it has to do with Iker’s personal life, but I doubt he would want anyone to talk about that, and it wouldn’t be fitting for Mou to talk about that either!
By the way, Iker and his friends will be the special guests on “El Larguero” tonight.
THREE. Speaking of Mou, remember how I wondered whether the players have a nickname for him? Well, they do and it’s “El Guapo.” Somehow, I’m not surprised.
FOUR. Someone else who has a nickname: MFC Álvaro Borja Morata Martín is called… Moratower! That’s because he’s grown four centimeters since the summer and now checks in at 1.91 m! However, MFC was a late bloomer – he was always one of the shortest on his team up to the cadete level, and it wasn’t until he was 15 that he started growing a lot.
FIVE. In declarations to Onda Madrid, Raúl Albiol said that Mesut Özil is a “bellísima persona.” El Chori also said that it would be special for him to return to Valencia and the Mestalla to play the Copa del Rey final because “it’s close to my house. As a kid, I was a ball boy there and I remember great Champions League games against Arsenal and Leeds United. It’s a very special stadium for me.” And he talked about Mou and that Champions League game against Milan, saying that the míster had really frightened him when he grabbed him.
SIX. A great number of Madrid’s players sent congratulatory messages last night to Raúl, after Schalke eliminated Valencia to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Raúl said he hoped his team wouldn’t have to face another Spanish team in the next round. And with this game, Rulo became the player who has played the most European Cup games, with 140. In the first leg of this match-up, he became the highest goalscorer in all UEFA competitions.
SEVEN. And Esteban Granero’s musical recommendations for yesterday were Lucinda Williams and Josh Rouse, and for today, so far we have a beautiful Quique “genio” González (no surprise) song, and a group I like a lot, Pereza.
EIGHT. Tomy Mejías was interviewed by Madrid’s site, and the pictures were adorable! Once again, the canteranos take the prize in terms of adorable and not cheesy photos! And there wasn’t a thumbs up in sight… it might have to do with him wearing gloves, but I’ll take it, I’ll take it! View the rest of the gallery here.
In the interview, Tomás talks about Castilla, coming back from an injury and “debuting again.” He also tells us that Iker is “the great reference of the club, the best goalkeeper in the world” and that “I still have a lot left to do to become anything like him… I would like to have his agility, his reflexes and his tranquility, although I consider myself a very tranquil goalkeeper.”
NINE. More tweets from Álvaro today:
He mentioned that he plays in two fantasy football leagues, “one with friends and the other with Canales, Mateos and Albiol.” So one follower tweeted him back, does that mean that Canales, Mateos and Albiol are not your friends? Álvaro’s reply was, “they’re only teammates… and bad ones at that.” Jajaja!!! I love it!
