The club announced today that during a directors meeting yesterday, they decided to name as socios de honor, the highest honor given out by Real Madrid, Vicente del Bosque, Plácido Domingo and Rafa Nadal. The announcement goes on to say that VDB was chosen for his “impeccable work in coaching Spain to the World Cup,” Plácido Domingo as a “phenomenon of music” and Rafa Nadal as “the number one in world tennis.”
This is great, but one question: where’s the recognition for everything Vicente del Bosque accomplished when he worked for Madrid, from the time he was a player to the head of the cantera to the manager?* I really wish it didn’t take winning the World Cup for Madrid to recognize him like this.
* VDB won five Ligas and three Copas del Rey as a player, and two Champions Leagues and two Ligas as the coach.
