ICYMI – the Oscars edition

April 29, 2011

In case you missed it – Real Madrid vs. Barcelona [2011-04-27, Champions League semifinal ida, 0-2].

I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t want to read this ICYMI post, but despite all the drama surrounding this game, there were some cute moments involving our boys, and ironically hilarious moments involving Barcelona.  And to entice you to read the post, here’s Sergio and The Thigh, again.

Before I start, I’d like to say that I know Madrid players are sometimes guilty of the things that I criticize Barcelona players for doing (and it shames me), but I’m not going to go into that because (1) in this particular game, they weren’t guilty, and (2) I’m sure there are enough culés doing that already.

ONE.  And the Oscar for best documentary short subject goes to… Xavi Hernández!   In a stunning display of sportsmanship after the game, he said this:  “they play dirty, because that’s what their coach instills in them.  Once more, we were superior, and on their field.  We’re the only team that wants to play beautiful football.  Today, football won.”

So modest!  And it sounds exactly the same as when Barcelona lost, no?  If Barcelona’s not playing it, then it’s not football.

And if Mou instills playing dirty in us, what does Pep Guardiola instill in the Barcelona players, besides “beautiful” football?  Acting?  Cheating?  Poor sportsmanship?  Side note: go here to see Xavi describe Arbeloa quite differently than he did after the Copa del Rey game (i.e. he’s much nicer when he hasn’t just been beaten), and Cristiano “as the most individualistic player I have ever seen in my life, but in a ‘good’ way.”

TWO.  And the Oscar for best visual effects goes to… Sergio Busquets!  The Barcelona midfielder spent most of the game on the ground, with his hands covering his face (which we can assume is his favorite position, since he’s been doing that since last year).  That was not the only interesting thing.  As you can see, sometimes when he wasn’t even touched in the face – or at all -, he would still fall on the ground clutching his face.  It’s gotten to the point where I am even embarrassed for him.

And Iker is so much better than me, I would not have helped Busquets up.  Even his own teammate Messi stands around instead of doing it.

It’s almost like a fun game – spot Busquets!  Bonus points if his hands are on his face!

Note: some of these incidents were only seconds apart, i.e. Busquets fell down, saw that no one was paying attention and got up, and then fell down again.

Busquets also apparently called Marcelo a “monkey” (watch the video here).  It’s not conclusive what Busquets said to Marcelo, but the fact that he covers his mouth with his hand shows something – unless it’s become an involuntary gesture for him, since his hands spend so much time in the area of his head.  If this is true, then I’ve lost what little respect I have left for Busquets (from his performances with La Roja) because this is racist, insensitive and boorish behavior.  And how can any decent person be capable of this kind of behavior, especially if he has current and former teammates who have also been victims and hurt by things like this?  In addition, his own teammates have made anti-racism public service announcements!  Maybe they should start getting the message across closer to home, no?

THREE.  And the Oscar for best makeup goes to… Pedro!  For making up this aggression from Álvaro Arbeloa.  As you can see, Pedro basically ran into Álvaro, the two of them collided at their shoulders/arms, and Pedro fell to the ground clutching his left eye.

Notice a theme here?

No, thank you, Pedro, for regaling us with your theatrical skills.

FOUR.  And the Oscar for best actor goes to… Dani Alves!  For rolling around repeatedly on the ground, simulating pain, when Pepe hadn’t even touched him.  And why would he be rolling on the ground if his leg were really injured?  Wouldn’t that make it worse?  He even left the field on a stretcher, but when the game resumed (and he saw Pepe sent off), he was miraculously alright again, hopping right off said stretcher, running and kicking without any problems!  What a performance.  That’s why I applaud you, Dani, and why you are a deserved winner.

I guess that’s why the grass was extra long at the Bernabéu.  It was to help cushion the fall of the Barcelona players, since we all know how much they like to fall to the ground, and so we were just watching out for them!  And this is the thanks we get?

FIVE.  And the Oscar for best actor in a supporting role goes to… José Pinto!  After all, he wasn’t even in the game, yet he got himself red carded for slapping Álvaro Arbeloa in the face and trying to choke Chendo during the half.

SIX.  Another theme of this game was Barcelona’s players constantly running up to the referee to protest each and every single decision that went against them, complete with gestures of indignation.  I have never seen Víctor Valdés sprint so fast as when he was trying to reach the referee, and Carles Puyol even often followed the referee around jabbering away.

And when Xabi tried to get a word in, Puyol shoved him away.  The fourth official wasn’t immune either, as he had the pleasure of having Barcelona’s substitutes constantly protesting in his ear.

The only good thing about this is that Xabi threw out a few poses during these moments.

And now, onto the good stuff (i.e. the Real Madrid stuff), although it pains me a bit to put them right next to that ugly stuff you just saw.

SEVEN.  Some shots of the most beautiful stadium in the world.

This is the scene that greeted Madrid’s team bus as they arrived at the stadium on Wednesday afternoon.  I love my fellow madridistas!

EIGHT.  And this is Marcelo, looking adorable as he walked into the stadium.  FP was there to greet the players as they entered the stadium.  He told Cris “hoy dos” (score two today), while Higuaín said to him, “¿qué tal presi?”

NINE.  One new sign and one old sign greeted the players.  The new one says, “we live for you, so beat them for us.”  Very brief, yet poignant.

TEN.  Our beautiful team warming up.  Cris and Marcelo both looked up, while Xabi and Iker looked forward.

And here is Sergio in a hair commercial warming up, while Marcelo gives someone five.

ELEVEN.  Inside the tunnel, the subs hugged the starters as they made their way to the field, and on the field, the team continued with the huddle tradition.  I love it.

TWELVE.  No words needed.

THIRTEEN.  Álvaro, Iker and Sergio sum up perfectly what we were feeling during most of the game, no?

FOURTEEN.  At the half, Mou spoke to Iker, Xabi posed and Álvaro changed shirts (he-llo Ál-va-ro!!!).

FIFTEENMou got himself kicked out of the game for sarcastically applauding and giving the thumbs up to the decision of the referee to expel Pepe.  He also said “well done” several times while nodding.  He also gave the thumbs up to the Barcelona bench, as if saying, “yes, you managed to achieve it one more time.”  I love this man, and I even applaud his thumbs ups here.

SIXTEEN.  Mou went and took a seat right next to the end of the bench, in the stands (the security personnel placed a chair there for him so he wouldn’t have to sit on a step), where he continued taking notes and communicating them to his assistants, just as he had done up to that point.

SEVENTEEN.  At the end of the game, Piqué shook hands with some of his La Roja teammates (it seems to me as if he’s trying to atone for something, no, between this and what he did at the end of the Copa del Rey game, because “sportsmanlike” and “Piqué” are hardly ever mentioned in the same sentence so this is odd behavior for him), while Xabi complained to the referee, and showed his exasperation while looking totally and completely boss.

Iker also showed good sportsmanship, as he always does, regardless of the circumstances, despite some of the undeserving recipients.

EIGHTEEN.  Some reactions.  I love what Manu had to say.

Cris: everyone saw what happened.  When we were playing 11 against 11, perhaps we weren’t playing well, but we had control over the game.  It’s always the same against Barcelona, is it a coincidence?  We’re very sad because it’s always the same against this team and because the same thing always happens to the míster against Barcelona.

Xabi: it wasn’t an expulsion [Pepe’s challenge], it was a contested ball and it conditioned the game.  The game was going how we wanted, without goals but looking for our opportunity.  The expulsion changed the game and we feel very frustrated because it was unjust and everyone could clearly see that it was.

Iker: always ending with 10 is not normal.

Sergio: this theater has to end.  I hope some things will change because this is damaging the image of the sport.  El madridismo and us are both hurt with what we saw on the field.  Alves committed his sixth foul and nothing happened, Ramos his first and he received a card.  There are players that are responsible for trying to start fights to see if they can get someone expelled, but we’re not like that.

Adebayor: football is a game of men.  Whenever you play against Barcelona, whenever you touch them, they are on the floor crying like a baby. Whenever you make contact in a 50-50 they are on the floor, crying, putting their hand over their face, and their manager, their fans, they are always crying.

NINETEEN.  The Xabi Alonso pose section.™

See, Barcelona literally makes Xabi sick.

TWENTY.  The Mou corner.

As soon as Mou sat down for his press conference, he advised everyone present that “if I say what I’m thinking, my career would end.”  He then went on to say, “sometimes football makes me sick,” that he hopes Barcelona can win a “clean” Champions League, without “scandalous refereeing decisions,” and that winning a Champions League like Barcelona had “would embarrass me.”  He added, “Josep Guardiola deserves to win a Champions because he’s a great coach that I respect as a person because he treated me fantastically during the four years I was with him.  Yesterday, I didn’t disrespect him, I thought I could use the ‘informal ‘tú’ with him but I have to call him Mr. Josep Guardiola.  I respect him a lot as a coach and as a person.”

As for the next game, “we will go without Pepe, who didn’t do anything, without Ramos, who didn’t do anything, and without the coach, who can’t be on the bench… and with a result that is practically impossible to turn around.  And if by coincidence we score a goal there and open things up, I’m sure they’ll shut us down once more.  They’ll shut us down once more!  Today, we saw that we have no possibility (of winning).  None.”  He then asked some rhetorical questions:  “why didn’t they allow us to play against them?  Why was Pepe expelled?  Why didn’t they blow the four penalties against Chelsea?  I don’t know if it’s because they have UNICEF on their shirts, or the power of (Ángel) Villar in UEFA, or if they’re nice guys, but I just don’t understand.”

He’s suspended for the next game, which begs the question, where will Mou sit in the Camp Nou?

And although he seemed to give up any hope of winning the vuelta game during the press conference, to the team he said, “we’re going to fight until the end.  There are 90 minutes left to play and we’re not going to give up.  We will go to Barcelona to fight for the options that we have left.  We’re not going to gift them the semifinals, because we are Madrid.”  Yes and yes.

TWENTY ONE.  Other notes:

– at the game – Fernando Hierro, Vicente del Bosque (the two of them received applause as they entered the presidential palco), Rafa Nadal with his dad, Mario Vargas Llosa, José Mercé, Hugo Sánchez, Lorenzo Sanz (FP’s predecessor as Madrid president his first time around), and all members of the Quinta del Buitre – Pardeza and Butragueño were in the palco as Madrid staff members, while Míchel, Martín Vásquez and Sanchís were commentating.

– some of the chants heard: “¡Piqué, cabrón, España es tu nación!” (Piqué, bastard, your country is Spain), “¡El puto amo, Mou es el puto amo!”  Thanks Pep.

– the team canceled their training session for Thursday, returning today, meaning they’ll only have this session to prepare for Saturday’s game against Zaragoza.

– Pepe, Sergio and Mou will miss the second leg in Barcelona next week.

– Granero and Pepe were tested for drugs after the game.

– Valdés, Piqué and Puyol were victims of laser beams, and an announcement was made over the PA system at the half to tell people to quit it.  They need to.

– when Sir Alex Ferguson was seen leaving the Mesón Txistu where he had dinner, some resigned Madrid fans sang to him, “A por ellos, oé,” meaning that they wanted Manchester United to beat Barcelona in the final.

TWENTY TWO.  And the aftermath:

It seems that everyone is in a revengeful mood.  First up, UEFA announced that it was opening disciplinary cases against Madrid and Barcelona.  Madrid’s long list of crimes reads as follows: throwing missiles, pitch invasion, the red card shown to Pepe, the dismissal of coach José Mourinho, the inappropriate statement given by Mou to the media after the match (which apparently violates Article 5 of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations).  The case against Barcelona, which seems to be a mere afterthought, regards the red card received by José Pinto for trying to take down Álvaro Arbeloa and Chendo.  I guess someone is still pissed that he allowed the goal that lost Barcelona the Copa del Rey, no?

I hope that none of this entails a violation of the parole that Mou is on, after UEFA’s decision to place him on that following the Ajax game (this would add a one-game suspension to whatever punishment is meted).  The cases will be heard on May 6.

Then Barcelona announced that they were denouncing Mou to UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Committee for his statements after the game regarding Barcelona’s 2009 Champions League title, which they believe violated Article 5, sections B and D for “dirtying our prestige, our honor, our history, our relationship with UNICEF that of our fans and of the directors that were present with the winning of the Champions in 2009.  Barcelona feels injured.”  Funny, I thought the club did a pretty good job at that by themselves, with no outside help!  For example, regarding the relationship with UNICEF, they’re the ones that relegated the organization to the back of their jerseys for some cash from a country with a questionable record on human rights.

And finally, Madrid announced that they were denouncing Barcelona for unsportsmanlike behavior during the game, concretely the faking of injuries, with the purpose of inducing the referee to make judgment errors.  They have listed four specific actions and provided videos to back up their case: the collision of Pedro with Arbeloa that resulted in a yellow for the latter; Busquets faking a shot to his face after getting involved with Marcelo; Keita shoving Arbeloa at the half, and this video showing that Pepe had not even touched Alves in the play that resulted in his expulsion, but that Alves fell to the ground, writhed as if his life were over, and had to leave the game on a stretcher.  Once he saw that Pepe was given a red card, he bounced right back, with no apparent side effects.

Madrid will also try and show that all of these actions, including the constant protests and pressures on the referee, were premeditated, and part of a strategy.  They also expressed their complete support for José Mourinho, because he had the right to freedom of speech.  Read the official announcement here.

This post was flawless, Mou’s presser was flawless, our team is flawless!

Anyway, I feel like there’s nothing I can say anymore after being so fed up by the match. But this –

“I guess that’s why the grass was extra long at the Bernabéu. It was to help cushion the fall of the Barcelona players, since we all know how much they like to fall to the ground, and so we were just watching out for them! And this is the thanks we get?”

    – was hilarious!! Love the blog, thank you for doing it, and keep it up!

LOL I know, loved it! That bit also reminded me of this from Dirty Tackle:

“128′ — Pepe runs back onto the pitch and viciously kicks Dani Alves in the head and back. The referee explains that he KNEW Pepe would do this, which is why he sent him off earlier. The referee reveals himself to be a Pre-Cog from Minority Report.”
      (from http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/blog/dirty-tackle/post/If-it-continued-8230-Real-Madrid-v-Barcelona-?urn=sow-wp1252)

“Iker: always ending with 10 is not normal.” love.

Completely mindboggling that Barca would file ]a complaint against Real. WTF are you serious? Well, guess there’s nothing really for them to fear from UEFA for everything they did, after all…

And lastly, Mou I love you.

Thank you so much for writing this up! I’m sure it wasn’t the most fun one to do.

What Busquets did made me literally sick to my stomach and had me close to tears (note: I’m not normally an emotional person like that). Teams and players don’t matter in this case. If I saw any human being say that to another it would make me just as upset. What hurt the most was seeing Marcelo barely react as if it’s something he’s seen and heard many times in the past. It’s no judgment of Barcelona as a team, it’s against one individual. It’s sickening to see this happen.

Una, loved the post (despite how much I hated the game). The Oscars were well-deserved. I admire Mou for saying what everyone else was thinking and I hope he doesn’t get into too much trouble for it. Seeing him so frustrated really hurt. Same with Cristiano’s comments… he’s usually so diplomatic about his rivals but you could really see he was just disgusted and frustrated with this game. They all were, and they deserved to be. It was a disgrace to the beautiful game.

Xavi should get in trouble for HIS comments, they’re disgusting. (This latest video of him talking about the players doesn’t improve the situation, in case that’s what he was hoping it would do… it just makes him look like a two-face hypocrite.) I used to really respect him but now I can’t find it in me… every time he opens his mouth it’s to make some holier-than-thou comment about how his “humble club” is so superior to everyone else. He and Piqué both just seem to enjoy hearing themselves talk.

Valdes continues to be his antipático self… And has rubbed off on his violent buddy Pinto it would appear.

And as for Busquets I didn’t respect him to begin with, not since his peek-a-boo incident and the various comments he’s made about Madrid, but now I just flat-out despise him. In no situation is racism ever okay. I hope his teammates have spoken to him about it – especially the ones who have suffered from racism themselves. How can he stand to look them in the eye after behavior like that? I just can’t believe it hasn’t been publicly addressed by either club or the UEFA. Why isn’t racism being made a priority yet??? (By the way, do we know how the measures Tottenham took against it turned out? Did people use the system?)

This seems far from over, it will be interesting to watch what happens with the UEFA. I don’t like how much power they have and I’m sure Mou will be punished again. Through all the madness what makes me content is knowing that the world finally saw what the meaning behind “mas que un club” really means.

I am so pleased by this post. It can be hard to read the ICYMI when we lose, but you’ve summed up everything I’m feeling. I love this team and this club even more for not backing down.

Contrary to what Xavi may think, what happened on Wednesday night was not “playing beautiful football.” It wasn’t football at all! It’s so frustrating to even watch clásicos, because they’ve become much more about theatrics (you’re 100% right about the Oscars, Una) and pettiness than actually playing the game. And of course I am a bit biased, but most of this nonsense is *not* coming from Madrid. I would sincerely love to just see the two teams play an honest match for once.

Una , I absolutelly love all of your posts and I read them all , but in this one even though you pointed out all the mistakes made by Barcelona players, you seem to forget what Marcelo did in the penalty area to Pedro or what Adebayor dit to Busquets when he hit him in the face ( this time for real ). And i see that Di Maria didn’t win the Oscar for the best actor , how could that be, he was the best ?

Di Maria may dive more on average (yes he is the one that has provoked the most penalties in La Liga this season) but in this specific game, his dives were few and far less disgusting than those of the Barcelona players. When he goes down, he doesn’t go down clutching a body part that hadn’t even been touched. When he goes down, he doesn’t do so in a way that gets him stretchered off the field and the opposing player a red card.

And if Una was pointing out all the mistakes made by the Barcelona players, this post would be a lot longer. And if you were truly being objective, you’d see that the mistakes made by the Barcelona players, mentioned in this post, were far graver than any mistake made by a Real Madrid player.

No sweetie, Di Maria wasn’t the best actor. If you have ever played the game, or most team sports. Part of the game is to draw fouls. Particularly attacking players must draw fouls, as they are nearer to the goal, and said foul can result in a point. In basketball, it is an open skill which is lauded by comms, if a player is skilled at drawing fouls.

DiMaria has been over-the top about it, or maybe he just needs to learn to be sneakier. The difference between Real Madrid fans and Barca fans is that we openly critisize our player if we feel he is being unsporting. This is a noble character trait that is found to be few and far between in Barca fans ~ and players.

DiMaria has never, not once put on a performance to the disgusting level that alves did.

I truly pity you if you are the type of person who is willing to lie to yourself to the degree that you cannot face the plain truth.

Fouls happen. They always will. But when Barca could not penetrate Real Madrid they reacted in a shameful manner far beyond what is acceptable. I have heard so much BS about Pepe having contact on Alves. Alves had to be held down on the stretcher as he was ready to jump up & run unwounded onto the pitch as soon as he saw that his diabolical lies had worked & Pepe received a red card.

This was a CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL. All care should have been taken to retain the integrity of the match. This was not a little league match. The official was on the opposite end of the pitch when it happened. Alves CHEATED TO GAIN AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE OVER REAL MADRID. Any Cules who love their club should complain straight away to their club to stop shaming them with this disgusting behavior and rampant anti-football. If you don’t you are a coward.

    Thanks for this post una!

It was coming to this. Barca complained and complained until they got a biased ref, and in turn a result they wanted. Barca doesn’t like head to head competition. They were pissed in the first two games, because they expected that they were going to win. They’d already had the deal sealed in their minds. Then RM came out fighting, and kept them frustrated.

Xavi Hernandez is a raging douche bag. I’m sure he hasn’t said any of those things without the sanction of his coach. The thing with Pep is, he’s smart enough to let his troops put themselves out their for him. So he looks liek the humble guy. Mou just protects his guys and goes to bat for them. He doesn’t care if the media puts him out there like that. He stands for his men.

Busi is a bigot. How sad. How sad that Barca won’t even ACKNOWLEDGE that one of their stars said such a thing. He won’t apologize. He’ll continue on as if he’s right.

Valdes, who I admittedly have a sick facination with, is working my last damn nerve. Why is his ass always out of the box, and not geting carded? Really? Seriously?

If it were an honest win, I’d be sad ,but not outraged. Now, I just have absolutely NO RESPECT for Barca. It’s sad because the SNT will probably never win anohter Eurocopa or WC. The team is divided again.

amazing post, u should also mention what other soccer players said about barca’s play!

Ferdinand wrote on Twitter: “This diving is a joke/embarrassing. When Pedro watches that do you think he’ll think ‘What was I doing!? Rugby players must laugh at football.”

Regarding the Pepe-Alves incident, the England international centre-back added: “If you ever see me go off on a stretcher then run back on to play, I give everyone on here the green light to hit me with a two-footed tackle.”

Team-mate Michael Owen too criticised the Barca players and tweeted: “Alves’ actions won’t please many as if he had got straight up it would have been a yellow card, but Barca fans will be happy with his actions.”

i might be crazy but for some reason i thought defense was part of the game of football as much as offense. here in the united states in our other sports like american football and hockey teams have won championships by playing defense most notably the chicago bears and new jersey devils. for some reason xavi thinks playing defense is not beautiful, for some of us it is. he calls it antifootball but i call the diving antifootball. football is 50 percent offense and 50 percent defense. for barca they make it 90 percent offense 0 percent defense and 10 percent diving. but xavi and most of barca have a napoleon complex trying to make up for something maybe. actually here in the united states we have a saying ” defense wins championships and offense sells tickets”. Mou gets labeled defensive but in his whole career he has always had his teams in the top 2 goals scored so i beg to ask is being the 2nd most goal scoring team defensive? to barca it is.

thank you! I have been feeling like the minority about this style of play but then as you pointed out, maybe it’s just because it’s what we’re used to in the US. My daughter played 3 sports for years and defense was ALWAYS emphasized. The saying I’ve heard is, “a good defense is the best offense”.

I do appreciate the beautiful passes and the way they can control the ball BUT it gets boring after a while. It seems people get so hung up on the ball possession percentage but what good does it do you if you can’t break down the defense. I guess that explains why Barca has to result to diving when they can’t figure out a way to break down the defense on their own…they try to get a player sent off so it’s 10 v 11.

Ha! This is exactly what I thought when I read the “beautiful football” comment ; how can it be beautiful when all you do is pass!? Every time I sit down to watch an el clasico I am hopeful, very much excited and I say to myself ‘do not get angry no matter what, just enjoy the game’. But almost never I am able to keep my calm. This upsets me very much. ,
And just out of curiosity, the part where you said that Barcelona is injuring their reputation by relegating the organization to the back of their jerseys for some cash from a country with a questionable record on human rights. Which country do you mean?

At this point I would rather have Real and Barca both banned from the CL final and let ManU and Schalke battle it out for the title to teach them both a lesson (even though I am a madridista). Barca’s tactics and games were absolutely shameful and they should not be allowed to continue no matter what the final aggregate score is. However, this petty back and forth that they are both doing now is totally sullying the game as it supposed to be and turning it into a joke. Real Madrid should be above that and although they are not always innocent (I’m looking at you Marcelo, Di Maria, Cris and that you have all had your share of diving antics) at this time I do not think that they were the bigger wrong of the two.

Also, I thought that Arbeloa only got slapped in the face? Not that that is any better but I didn’t see an actual punch thrown (although I may have missed it in the melee). I still love your posts Una, and thank you for covering this so thoroughly (and all the other matches too)!

Why should Real Madrid be banned? If anything we have been victim of discrimination. UEFA is punishing us, while Barca trolls on unchastened. The true question should be is who does Barca have in their pocket in La Liga & UEFA? How were they able to petition to get this official, who was ranked the worst in the German League?

No top professional football players critisized us. I think they would know better than you what was going on….and they all called out Barca.

The Spain NT was capable of penetrating teams who parked the bus. Apparently Barca is not as good of a team as they needed to cheat in order to beat a defensive strategy from our men who have been together less than a year. It is not the 1st time they have done it either.

This match felt like a punch on the face. It was nothing like that 5-0, in which we came back with our heads down knowing that we played really bad and deserved the result we’ve got.

This time I just felt sick, because one would have to be blind to say that Pepe’s sending off did not affect the match. We have a trophie to prove how important Pepe was.
It is just sick that people are just talking about how Messi’s Magic decided the match. He was only able to show it because the one blocking him was sent off!
I felt sick with this match because of this ridiculous show of unsportsman behavior the current Best Club in The World showed. They really ARE more than a club, no? They not only play football but they also prepare their players for Hollywood! The players can just start a new life as actors in case football doesn’t pay off, how thoughtful of Barcelona!

This match was sickening. It was nothing like November’s, when I was just disappointed because my club, who I saw shining up until then, practically disappeared.
It was nothing like the second leg in the Bernabéu, when I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, amazed with such a well played match.
It was nothing like the Copa’s match, when I was again at the edge of my seat, my eyes never leaving the screen and my heart beating faster and faster as minutes went by.

This time I couldn’t even look at the screen for more than 2 minutes because it was embarassing! Totally embarassing, I couldn’t believe what my eyes were witnessing.

This last one was a disgrace to football and Barcelona should feel ashamed of themselves for it. But then again, they keep proving they have no shame at all. How come they have the fame of a humble and modest club will forever remain a mystery to me. Xavi post-match comments saying that they played beautiful football in that match even got me wondering if there is a brain inside his head. There was nothing beautiful in that. It was dirty, ridiculous and ugly unsportsman behavior and he should be ashamed he was part of that. I won’t even get started on Sergio Busquets and the racist slurs accusation because something like this puts me to tears. It just shouldn’t happen, never, never, it goes against everything his club tries to represent and just adds more to the stupid show he put up on the pitch.

I’m sorry my comment is just a really long rant, but I’m just sick and tired and I want everything to end, I can’t take anymore clásicos. I just want to think this is the last clásico, I’m happily denying the existence of Supercopa at the moment.

We’ll go to the Camp Nou next week with our heads held high, knowing that we don’t have to act like whiny kids and diving fishes to get our trophies. We’ll show them madridismo never gives up, and we’ll fight with everything we have, because at this point we have nothing to lose anymore.

Let’s not hand them the semi-finals. Hasta el final, vamos Real!

    ¡Hala Madrid!

PS: We should all thank God everyday for Sergio’s tights! We can at least say there was some light in the middle of all the clusterfuck! Bless him.

As I had said on the madrid community on LJ, I would rather Real Madrid play the football we’re used to then have them play the Barcelona way, since that’s the only football Barcelona knows of.

Also, regarding the situation with Busquets. I have lost so much respect for him, I didn’t like him that much in the first place but now, he disgusts me. Over on the ontd_football community, they made a post about this and several, hundreds even, barcelona fans were simply disgusted by Busquets words, considering he has a teammate (Dani Alves) and past teammates (Eto’o and Henry) who have dealt with racism before. Not only that, but they have a campaign for anti-racism in football. People have sent emails to UEFA and to Barcelona about this and I believe Marca has been made aware of this as well.

You love to win dirty, but it hurts to lose dirty, doesn’t it?

Barcelona won because instead of beating Real at the dirty game, they joined them. Instead of letting Arbeloa tread on their players and manhandle them and Pepe try to break their legs, they dived and cried and beat you at your own game, in your own way. Marcelo dives for a penalty. Alves dives to get that monster Pepe sent off. You want to sit back and wait for them to make a mistake? Fine, they’ll just camp out in their own half and wait for you to get frustrated. You want to play dirty and win dirty and bait referees and blame defeat on everyone but yourselves, fine, but you can lose dirty too. And for Mou, the dirtiest coach in the history of football, who has yet to win a Champions League cleanly himself (Scholes, Milito offside), that’s got to hurt, doesn’t it? You tried playing football against them. You lost 5-0. You played anti-football against them and won 1-0. You insulted their coach and treated their players with no respect, so in return they gave no respect back to you.

And it’s funny, all these remarks about Piqué. Because I’m pretty sure that Barcelona, and Catalunya, and Iniesta and Villa and Xavi and Puyol and Piqué and yes, Busquets, shameful as he is, are the reason you can call yourselves world champions. That, and Casillas, the only classy player for Real Madrid. And the treatment of Villa, in the Copa del Rey? You know, where Arbeloa purposefully stomped on him and then Ramos and Arbeloa hauled him to his feet? The incident that was so amusing to all you madridistas? Perhaps that’s why Xavi wasn’t so impressed with him after the Copa. That’s the real shame. That’s the way you treat the reason Spain won the World Cup. No respect.

Madridismo is dead. It was killed the minute Mou arrived and shipped Raúl off to Germany and spent 250 million euros to play ugly, defensive football in the Bernabeu, the minute when Mou stepped in that press room and delivered the most hypocritical and self-righteous tirade against the beautiful game I have ever heard. Now he’s murdering the beauty of the clásico as well.

You wanted ugly football? You got it. Congratulations.

    • April 30, 2011 12:36

One action doesn’t justify another. If Barcelona were the bigger team, they would still give respect no matter what Madrid did, but they didn’t. They wouldn’t join Madrid in their “dirty game,” After all, aren’t they supposed to be more than a club? Draw your own conclusion. And if you’ve read this blog carefully, you’ll see that the majority didn’t like what Arbeloa did to Villa. No one would call it amusing.

And I love how you group Villa in the Barcelona/Catalunya crowd, when he was in the World Cup due to his merits with Valencia and before he had ever played in a Barcelona shirt. And I’d hardly say he and the “rest” of the Barcelona/Catalunya players were the only reasons Spain won the World Cup. As you said, there was Iker. But there was also Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Vicente del Bosque, Fernando Hierro… not to mention the dozens of non-Barcelona/Catalunya players on the bench and those who helped Spain to qualify for the tournament. Spain couldn’t have won without any of them. And Xavi, Puyol and Piqué wonder why they’re constantly questioned about their allegiance. It’s because of people like you who view the national team not as a whole, but as divided by province of origin.

And Sergio shoving both David and Leo? Nice. The incident ended with the captains having a little discussion and Xabi chewing off the referee’s ear.”

“What is so funny is that the second Sergio and Alvaro pulled him up, Villa got all angry and shovy and then walked as if he wasn’t hurt and about to die like he looked seconds before!”

“I liked so much eighteen…i could not stop looking at our boys picking up David (don’t ask me why)….”

“Crisi is a big ole baby on the pitch sometimes, but he’s def not the only one. Messi’s little ass is one of the worst, and now Villa. Trying to get a card, smdh. Barca, tactically are probably the best team out there. However, they are NOT humble. Something that they proclaim to be, over and over. • May 1, 2011 11:26

No, you’re misinterpreting things. What I said was that most would not find Arbeloa stepping on Villa amusing, because he could have been seriously hurt, and no one would want that.

What people are commentating on here is Villa’s acting, which in hindsight – and all this is in hindsight – was found funny, because it was obvious that he was not injured at all. Reread what you quoted. They are all talking about what happened after the contact.

Got to say, Truth-I agree with every word. Very well put. As football fan who enjoys watching BOTH teams very much- not just a biase culè (which I’m sure is what everyone will claim I am as I’m not blinding supporting RM in everything they did).
It is clear to see that Busquets, Pedro and Alves did perform an embarrassing range of dives and underhand tactics but pot, kettle and black do not even cut it. Barca came to Madrid and played them at their own game.

As usual, Iker was a stellar player, sportsman and person- I have an awful lot of respect for him.

The fact is Mourinho is dragging this team into disrepute. It’s not all him- IMO Sergio ramos is a bit of a thug and Carvalho a dirty player. I will say similar of Busquets-big diver and Alves-another thug/dirty player. Nobody’s perfect but the post match actions of RM (particularly JM) have made them a laughing stock-UNICEF? Calling out refs? Naming 6 of barca’s players they claim Pep coached to behave in an unsportsmanlike manner? Wow. What a shame.

No Mourinho is not dragging Madrid into disrepute. Other Pep coaches do the same thing. they just don’t do it as well.

All this propaganda against Mourinho exists because the Spanish league are scared out of their minds, because it is clear that Mourinho is building an unbeatable winning machine with Real Madrid and the rest of Spain just can’t stand the thought of that.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see how far he has brought Madrid in less than a year. He has beaten Barca & probably would have beaten them in this match too. He plays primarily ATTACKING footie with Real Madrid.

He also brings more enjoyment and drama to the game than any other, ANY OTHER. He also has the guts to call out the lies and phoniness that mar the sport.

Many complained about him when he was in the Prem, but they are all dying to get him back. He brings drama, excitement and brilliant play like no other.

Not a fan of Busquets anyway- he dives too much but obviously if this turns our to have been fact I will have lost any shred of respect for him. Personally I can’t say much-I watched vid bs it didn’t look like he said that to me but I’m told that to a native Spanish speaker there is no doubt it is what he said. BIG punishment deserved and personally I don’t know how he can look his teammates in the eye after that.

IF the said Barca players hadn’t dived in such ridiculous fashion, IF the whole team hadn’t pressured the ref into red-carding Pepe, IF the ref hadn’t allowed himself to be pressured, Mou would have had NOTHING to complain about – just like he didn’t complain when we lost 0-5 in November or against some other opponents when they won fair and square. Once he even went to the winning opponent’s dressing room to congratulate them. He’s not a sore loser. He only complains when there are actually SOMETHING WRONG. But I guess it’s an easy way out for Cules to blame everything on him.

And it’s not like he said UNICEF was a part of the mess. He just said he didn’t know if the favouritism towards Barca had anything to do with Barca helping publicise UNICEF or that they’re very nice people. While I agree he shouldn’t have mentioned UNICEF, let’s not overlook the fact that his words are often distorted, or blown out of proportion by the media.

What Real Madrid did not do is put on the ridiculous rolling theatre performance that Alves did, specifically designed to push a weak official into red card for intent when he was all the way across the pitch when it happened. How did that official even end up in this match? Do you have any idea? We do not whine and assault the official after every call like a pack of blaugrana fishwives. Please open your eyes.

If you have a problem you should fight for changes to the UEFA officals situation & to add modern technology. But you will get nowhere because UEFA is as corrupt as FIFA.

Here is an example of what is found more generally when people play Barca. Barca gets preferential treatment from Officials. Now with their Oscar performance, they may be able to sweep it under the rug in Spain, but the rest of the world sees the truth. http://youtu.be/VwPQ0fInwx8
Xabi Alonso is hit, he doesn’t whine and put on a show. This is how a man of INTEGRITY plays the game. No card is given & there was definite contact. Alves receives no contact & the entire Champions League Match is turned into a fraud by his acting. A red could technically be given for either hit. The difference is, Real Madrid fans will admit, given the importance of the match, Pepe should have received a yellow. Barca would have whined if Busquets received a yellow for potentially destroying Xabi’s knee. Luckily as usual, no card was given to Barca at all.

Since this is your blog and you don’t like to get technical, I won’t comment on the Real Madrid strategy which many RM fans are questioning. I wasn’t impressed with either teams’ play. I usually love Xavi, but lately he’s getting to me. This wasn’t beautiful football Barca was playing, it was keep away. (MickyMacky, you make me laugh!)If cules want to argue this, go argue with Barcelona Football Blog. They said it first.
So, to comment on your ICYMI post: 1. What is Xavi saying about Sergio in the video as I can’t make it out? “Who is that guy, he looks familiar?” 2. and 3. I’m so disappointed in Busquets and Pedro. Casillas showed class and composure and why he is also the captain of La Roja. Don’t Pique and Sergio look like they’re dancing? I was proud of Sergio Ramos for keeping his composure, which brings me to 17. I was actually proud of Pique for this. Maybe he is trying to atone for something, but even his demeanor seems more mature in the last 2 matches. Maybe Shakira is a good influence.(We’ll reserve judgement until the last clasico.)

Again I’m a Madridista but I hate double-standards… Let’s be fair. Ramos pressured the ref too and Di Maria is one hell of an actor so our “complaint” is really just “to get back at them”.

no one’s more tired of di maria’s diving than i am. i remember one game in which he just collapsed onto the field like he fainted..

but he didnt put on a show of the calibre of alves’. he didnt milk a non -existent injury until the ref whipped out red. and ramos may have pressured the ref, all players do, but not collectively all at once like barca did. that’s what we’re enraged about.

madrid’s complaint is in retaliation to barca’s complaints. they even said so on their website that as barca have made all these complaints, they have no choice but to bring to light their grievances (and there were many ) regarding the game.

fact – pepe’s red card gifted barca the game on a grass platter. and that’s what sucks. madrid weren’t even given a chance in the last 30 minutes. i feel for you mourinho.

You can keep this up till the end of time. The fact is the match was watched and rewatched across the world. It has also been watched by neutrals who understand the sport. Universally across the world it is understood that Barca shamed themselves in this match. They took things way way beyond what is acceptable. After they cheated far beyond what is acceptable, they were then enabled and supported by the official & a corrupt UEFA. This dirties the entire sport. They should be punished.

Apparently you don’t understand what goes on in matches in general. You want to spend your time trying to find one item here or one item there to justify your position.

You can support Barca and still complain when they do something wrong. It’s ok. That’s what fans who really love their club do. You should want your team Barcelona to change, have integrity and no longer shame the badge.

The way you go on trying to distort the truth makes you look like a bandwagoner Cule, who cannot support Barca unless you believe they are perfect and always win. To lie about your club like this, you should be ashamed.

  33. April 29, 2011 22:24

1-Thanks Una ,you said what I was thinking without using certain words that go through my mind while watching and hearing all the theatrics and hypocrisy.

2-Xavi has lost all the respect I had for him, he just goes on and on and on, apparently his team has an exclusive on so called ‘beautiful football’ and is the only team who not only deserves to win but should win all games according to him! Sorry, you have to check your eyesight Xavi, there was NOTHING beautiful about this game ( except for our stadium).

3-The Spanish national team players barely looked at each other and were so cold while shaking hands and that was even before this game started… God help us all to get through another game which doesn’t sound to be promising and I am not talking about the final result, I am talking about sportsmanship…

Any madridista would realise that we aren’t innocent but neither is Barcelona. By the by, that video you posted, Dani Alves was diving. No amount of fake videos can convince me otherwise because I recorded it, using an Australian broadcast who have no affiliation with any Madrid/Barca media.

Don’t try and pretend you are a madridista, it’s so clearly obvious you are not. At least have the guts to admit it instead of using a shield.

  39. April 29, 2011 23:26

Pepe didn’t deserve red, at all. The match sucked.
The referee was Messi fan.. how the hell can that happen? come on UEFA, u can’t do better than that?
Okay, so you said ”NO” to a portuguese referee because of barca and then u go on and bring a freaking MESSI FAN! no really, i’m pist. You know what; i’m not a bad loser, i don’t shout, when there’s nothing to shout about. if you know what i mean.
Its like this, i wouldn’t stand here and be so angry, if i knew Barca won fair and square.. so i just, like most Madridistas, think its a bit unfair that we are very close to Loosing CL because of some cheaters.
UUghh.. and Alves, don’t even bring him up (hahah.. i’m totally talking to myself right now).

I swear, after that comment from Adebayor i gained respect for him. He’s ice cold. But, hell.. its true. Real Madrid would touch them, and they would litterly fall down to the (very dry bernabeu grass) ground. it that ”Beautiful” football? And you say Jose Mourinho plays ugly football. hahaha.. after what we saw wensday, Baldiola just sat a new standard of beautiful football.

and Messii.. ugh.. hate that guy. He’s getting all smart as now. He’s starting to think he’s something. Screw you! U suck without all the other 10 cheaters.

Xavi and his ”we make 999 passes every 3 second”. uughh.. he’s like almost the worst when it comes to comments.

    oh yeah, and Kunfu Valdes..

I don’t even want to mention Pinto. To slap Arbeloa !

Well, Una, fantastic job as usual.

Mourinho’s tactics were working. Xabi said it best. The match was decided after an extremely unjust red. I think we all could have accepted a yellow. Alves should be punished, perhaps with a red of his own for his disgusting lies on the pitch, as there was absolutly no contact. Xabi Alonso was karate kicked in the WC final and only a yellow was given as the official was hesitant to unbalance the matcgh by going down to 10 men in early in such an important match. THIS WAS A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL!!! Yet, no consideration for maintaining integrity. We have been reduced to 10 men each time we play them.

Real Madrid was unjustly blocked from playing football. Acting & drawing fouls happens, but Barca went way, way over the line. Most of the world acknowledges it. There is always an <i.understood level of diving & acting in a match, but Barca took it way past acceptable. I blame the referree & thus UEFA most of all. It is their job to control the match & keep it fair. Clearly improvement is needed.

Barca did not play “beautiful football”. Defensive tactics are acceptable in the sport, but Barca’s display was cynical, anti-football. Intelligent, honest people are left feeling cheated of a fair and just match. The officiating was tragic. Pepe & Jose being sent off, in a match of this magnitude, they way they were – was criminal. The sport was robbed. Barca looked like spoiled petulant children, unable to face actual competition like grown men & true warriors.

I have admired Barca many times as I am also a fan of the sport in general and appreciate the beautiful touches & telepathic connection. They have severely marred their image. It is a long way to fall when you claim to be better than everyone else.

The behavior was very unsporting. The fact that there are no checks on the officiating is the greatest crime. Horrible officiating creates the environment where these antics prosper. Barca going after Mou is even more disgusting, what a farce. I feel very sorry for my nice Cule friends who have to witness this multitude of shameful behavior from a club they love.

Oh Xavi (magnificent player)….I try to tell myself his rediculous statements come from being extremely competetive…Then I have to add that it must come somewhat from ignorance. From not being exposed to others out of his little comfort circle off the pitch. Hopefully when he is through playing he will have time to grow as a person and become more socially aware.

UEFA may punish, but they will continue on unchanged, diminishing the quality of the sport.

I am proud that WE willingly critisize our own, when we see something wrong. Blind followers of a club live a lie.

I am so sad for our lovely team, who have come so far, only to be cheated. We all accepted that we were outmatched in November. We are a young team, who were only together a few months when that happened. But this match was even, until cheating interfered. & Listen up, Defense is as important as Offense in this game.

The truth will set you free, people.

On a hornier happier note…that gif of Iker & Xabi! Oh, YES PLEASE!!!!! Also, seeing Arbeloas gorgeous chest is always a plus, it just saddens me that I imagine he had to change because his other shirt probably got bloody when he was punched in the face. 😦

I hope the disgusting Busquets incident is not swept under the rug. That would make the “Respect” worn on the Barca shirt quite worthless and lie as well.

I am so thrilled with Mourinho, the only man brave enough to call out when “The Emperor is Wearing No Clothes”.

People need to move out of the past. The old days are gone. The old stereotypes no longer apply. Both clubs have excellent canteras. Both clubs have problems. Barca & Real Madrid are the 2 richest clubs in Spain. Face the reality of TODAY and move out of the past. And those Barcelona fans claiming “moral superiority” can climb off their high horse now.

I expect opposing players to battle fiercly on the pitch, calm down & respect & even care for each other after. Many times I have faced friends on the pitch in this way. I hope this happens, because this situation was too extreme & Barca needs to stop considering themselves MORE PURE than everyone else. We are all human, with human failings.

The one constant in life is change. Guess what? It may be hard for people stuck in their rigid sociological mores, but Real Marid is being treated unfairly. Two wrongs do not make a right. We all lost and FOOTBALL lost in this joke of a match. Football. Football. Can we please just have FOOTBALL?

Oh, Una, what an intriguing post. The first picture -niiiice;-)

I still ignore the events of Wednesday, but I found this article, which pretty much sums what I am thinking.

    http://theshinguardian.com/2011/04/28/op-ed-xavi-is-wrong-why-i-hate-barcelona/

I have no hatred in me towards any football team. Even as an RM fan, I generally like Barca’s style of playing when they play nicely and with no diving. But as soon as the diving and the acting starts (and it happens too often lately), it really looks desperate.

and it’s just really getting on my nerves that they do say that there’s only one way to play football. The beauty of this game lies in its variety and the amount of tactical possibilities. And if you are a team known for the offensive skills do not get surprised that the other team wants to defend themselves.

and really, a red card for Mourinho for “well done”? I totally do not get it. and a disciplinary proceedings in UEFA for saying his opinion? just ridiculous. I get that he might get too offensive sometimes, he ain’t no saint. He also builds the teams creating the we vs. world situations, but come on, it’s his method, it’s not illegal and he’s not a slave. Let the Mou speak!

I am so tired after finally watching this whole game, that I will gladly enjoy some usual, no high-profile–the-game of-the-year, football match between any other teams. Let’s see when the lovely Basques play! ;-)))

Any remaining respect I had for Barcelona has gone down the toilet after this one. As for Busquets – what a complete jerk; and it’s too bad that Marcelo, who is such a likeable character, has got to suffer racist comments at this point in the 21st century while he is performing his job. (Think of an accountant going to work and being subject to racist comments from his co-workers.) It’s really, really pathetic behaviour, especially coming from such a talented team.

All RM fans can do is cheer our guys on and offer them support. I hope that some other football players also comment as Ferdinand and Michael Owen have done.

Iker is (almost always) a great representative of sportmanship even in difficult circumstances – wish there were more players like him.

Thanks for the great post. This game was despicable and I hated most of the Barcelona players by the end. If you can’t win on your own merit then don’t create theatrical situations to earn a fake victory.

I’ve never respected Busquets, Pique, Alves or Valdes but now Xavi, who I begrudgingly tolerated till now for his talent has crossed the ultimate line. Heck, add ‘modest’ Guardiola and even Pinto for his horrible actions three days ago to the list.

Stark has to be one of the worst referees I’ve had the displeasure of watching in action, right alongside Webb during the World Cup final. Don’t even get me started on UEFA always getting on Mou for speaking his mind.

This game hurt and as someone else said, if we’d lost because Barcelona were plain better than us, I would’ve been extremely sad but not as angry as I am. They didn’t and if UEFA doesn’t do something regarding at least the wrongfully given red card to Pepe I’d know that they’re just Barcelona’s pawns.

“I now have even more desire to continue coaching Real Madrid because of what this club represents. The shirt is white and white has a meaning.”

Mourinho’s the best in his second year. Even though we may not win CL this year, he has brought has further than we have in the last 9 years, and he got us a cup that we haven’t seen for decades. Now Mourinho’s comment bonds him to the club more than ever before. Out of darkness, comes something bright. I’m glad I have something to look forward to next year.

I am also concerned that no news media is reporting about Busquets and the videos keep being removed. It looks that it will be swept under the rug. It’s quite obvious what is being said. People have to admit the truth when it is staring them in the face if they want to grow and have any integrity. Anyone who denies this blatant truth is a coward or a liar. ANYONE. That includes UEFA, leagues, Clubs, players or fans.

It also makes it look like Barca may have some of that “mystical” power to manipulate outcomes. That said I know there are good & bad fans from all clubs & many nice people are Barca fans. I have sympathy that they must deal with this unsavory behavior from their idols or administration.

Over on the Headbands and Heartbreak blog I posted this in the comments as a ‘template’ for anyone who wants to send an email of complaint/call to action to Uefa, info@uefa.com regarding the racial slur of Busquets. Tried to keep it direct and to the point. Besos.

    To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to voice my concern over the disturbing racial slur by the Barcelona player Busquets to the Real Madrid player Marcelo. I respectfully ask that you prioritize taking action against players who violate the universal call for respect for humans of all races and ethnicities, rather than taking action against managers and players, whose alleged offenses of a ‘war of words that pass certain limits’ do not cross the well-marked line into basic human rights.

“Say No to Racism” is a meaningless call to action if the very players who pose behind this sign do not practise those very words themselves. The incident of Sergio Busquets has been very clearly documented and well circulated across the world. It has angered people of all nations, denominations, and cultures. Any racial slur is reprehensible and demands prosecution. This is not a team issue, nor is it an issue involving anonymous fans or masked culprits; the player is known, his action is known, and you are in the position to uphold your standards and take action.

The urgency of your response to this blatant act of racism is vital. UEFA is a globally recognized and respected governing body, charged with the protection and preservation of European football’s standards for integrity and mutual respect. We look to you in confidence that justice will be done.

And if you want to bring up the past, these “Americans” that you refer to immigrated to the US from countries like England, Germany and other European countries. I love this post. I feel better already just reading it. I had heard about the Busquets incident (the racist one) and didn’t believe it until I saw the video. No wonder Eto’o wanted to escape. Imagine training with someone like that? How appalling.

Messi’s goals were beautiful (as they often are) but his teammates are a disgrace – and this time their disgraceful behaviour seems to be getting more attention.

I’m glad – because I agree with Mourinho. For neutrals watching the game, the Unicef logo has always hid a multitude of sins – diving to have players sent off (for me, the most venal of sins), crowding and bullying of the refs, general crassness and impolite behaviour off the pitch. I applaud Mourinho for simply stating the truth.

From the RVP neck-grab in the game against Arsenal (unpunished, though it warranted an instant red card), to Busquets and his crap in the last game, to Busquets against Inter and Alves against everyone – what a disgrace.

First let me start off by thanking you for the great Sergio pix. That made reading the rest of the post a lot easier.

One word…PATHETIC! When I saw the video of the Alves “foul” on Madrid’s website yesterday, said the same thing about the “Oscar” performance on my FB page. I also took the time to tweet it to Pique, Puyol & Valdes and told them it was “shameful”. I also commented about it on Pique’s FB page. pfft…probably won’t do much good because all the Barca fans on my FB list still defend their players and Pep and then of course comment that Madrid is just as bad…blah, blah, blah. Of course, my response is… 1) if Barca is so great how come they have to resort to this in order to win games & 2) Barca supposedly is the “classier” team so how is this “classy”. *crickets* And if I hear one more person say Barca was going to win even if Pepe hadn’t been sent off, I will scream! Ball possession means nothing if you can’t get the ball in the net. Apparently Barca realizes this which is why they have to resort to these tactics to win.

Oh, and I tweeted the video of Busquets to Puyol too and posted about it on Pique’s FB. So much for Barca’s anti-racism campaign. Maybe there will be no apology forthcoming from the Barca camp but I’m damn sure going to let these players know that the world knows about it and it’s NOT okay. What makes it even more pathetic is that Barca HAS black players and the national team also has players with black ancestry. Pfft…in truth, I was thinking recently how Busquets seems to have some “black” genes just looking at his skin coloring & hair. Nothing pisses me off more than racism. I see it every day here in the Chicago area (one of the most diverse cities in the US) and I will never find it acceptable. I just hope that VDB is aware of how his players are acting. If they really want to take a stand against racism, VDB should exclude Busquets from the next call-up. **getting off my soap box**

“No, thank you, Pedro, for regaling us with your theatrical skills.” Una, have I told you how much I love your humor?!

I didn’t see what had happened to get Pinto all fired up at half time nor did I see where he accosted Arbeloa…just where they were trying to subdue him and that he had been given a red card. I hope Pinto really feels ridiculous after seeing the replay of Pedro’s “foul” because he sure looks pretty ridiculous to me!

I saw Xabi at the end of the game, talking to the refs. He was pretty worked up and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him go at the refs like that. I figured that whatever he was upset about was pretty bad to see him like that. Now seeing the video of the phantom fouls, it’s all making sense. (the replays on the game I was watching didn’t have those angles, of course.)

And good for Mou. The article on FoxSoccerChannel.com was a lot more elaborate than what was posted on the Madrid’s English version website. Personally, I didn’t see a whole lot wrong or inflammatory with what he said and I’m glad Madrid is not going to take Barca’s retaliatory claims with UEFA lying down. Unfortunately, I doubt UEFA would nullify Barca’s CL victory but I hope there is some punishment for it….like maybe excluding them from next year’s competition. Hey, I can dream, can’t I? :p

I must say though that I am very proud of Sergio in this game. I truly think that Pep made the comment about Sergio before the game just to get him riled up and, hopefully, sent off. Sergio didn’t take the bait. Apparently when Barca realized that, they went to plan B.

    I USED to have respect for all Barca’s La Roja players but that list is quickly dwindling. Sadly, I’m having flashbacks of France in the world cup. :{

Xabi angry & talking to the officials the way he did should be all the proof anyone needs. This is the man who is respected by all. If you don’t believe it, look at Pep Guardiola trying to explain himself to Xabi after he held the ball from Cristiano. Pepe is pleading with Xabi trying to regain his respect! TROLLOLOL! http://youtu.be/ToE4kjns1XM

What he said and how he reacted comfirms that Barca & the official turned this match into garbage. This is the man who took that Karate-Kick, punished with only a yellow, because officials are normally very careful about going down to 10 men in major tourneys. But not whe RM faces Barca. It’s down to 10 men everytime.

All our men spoke brilliantly, actually. Iker such class helping that phoney up.

It is just very wrong that our men are PUNISHED FOR SPEAKING THE TRUTH and that BARCA RECEIVES UNFAIR ADVANTAGE OVER AND OVER. Wake up Spain, La Liga, UEFA and Barca…The World sees the truth now, no matter what you do, you will have no respect if this cheating and lying doesn’t stop.

You all know it. Xabi was there. The only good thing about this match is that we got to see him furious & how incredibly HOT was that!?!??!!

THANK YOU! I really hope something is done about what Busquets said to Marcelo.

I don’t know if you have an answer to this question, but why is Madrid being investigated over the red card on Pepe? Does that mean they’re just looking into the incident to see whether or not he touched Alves? I don’t see why Madrid is the team to investigate over that issue… I just don’t understand UEFA’s protocols, I guess.

So tired of Barcelona being the only one who ‘played football’. So tired of their theatrics. So tired of their whiny asses. Seriously. Do they never get tired of all the bullshit they do/say/whatever?

“For example, regarding the relationship with UNICEF, they’re the ones that relegated the organization to the back of their jerseys for some cash from a country with a questionable record on human rights.” –> This is so spot on!! Their UNICEF campaign was one of the very few noble things they had going on and they do this. Ugh. I never thought my respect for them would go lower but because of this, damnnnn.

Don’t know how UEFA works but if it was USA, everything Mourinho said would be put under his first amendment. Only thing they could get him for is slander/defamation but they’d have to prove malice – which, frankly speaking, is a wild goose-chase. Knowing UEFA though, Mourinho will probably end up with a lengthy ban, Pinto’s red card will be overturned and Arbleoa will end up with a ban for running into Pinto’s fist.

Before I start, I’d like to say that I know Madrid players are sometimes guilty of the things that I criticize Barcelona players for doing (and it shames me), but I’m not going to go into that because (1) in this particular game, they weren’t guilty, and (2) I’m sure there are enough culés doing that already.

una i became a reader of your blog because i felt that you were alble to write about your team without any prejudice towards others or bias for your team and i feel a little disappointed by this cause posting the above seems a bit like the easy way out.

obviously i’m not looking for some madrid bashing on a madrid blog.but did you really think your team were guilty of nothing? cause i could show you an alternative video of the one madrid made if you like.

bottomline is, i will be the first to admit that busi is so bloody annoying with the theatrics and it is disgraceful. pedro also made much of nothing with the arbeloa incident.and alves too but really it could have been bad.pepe has been making really bad silly fouls throughout all the clasicos and getting away with it..

how come it goes unmentioned when di maria play acts and spends most of his time on the floor in every game and earns you penalties and free kicks and the other team yellows for no reason. he is a very good player if he’d just stay on his feet i mean the pass fpor the goal in the copa was great.more of that less of acting.and madrid sueing anybody for unsportsmanlike behaviour is a little bit of a joke.

i would have a lot more to say but this is not my blog but i’d like to add one last thing.the whole following the referee all over the pitch and gathering around him i think both teams are guilty of and it is really the most annoying thing ever.especially valdez who i kinda of really dislike because of his behaviour like this all the time so agressive.

did you miss the part where marcelo stepped on pedro and it seemed to me he knew exactly what he was doing..arbeloa did this to villa in the copa (his seemed accidental though) then acted like he did nothing while he and ramos dragged villa off the floor.

Easy way out? I’ve produced seven ICYMI posts in nine days (there’s another one coming up), in addition to the regular news posts and other posts. Do you know how much work that entails? The fact that you’re not even a Madrid fan shows that you do like this blog, so maybe you should spare a thought for me. In the limited time I dedicate to updating this blog, of course I’m going to write about the issues that I feel deeply about, and those were the ones I covered in this post.

At no point did I say that I believe my team is not guilty of anything. Just go read that sentence you quoted from me again. And if you’ve been reading this blog as you say you have, you know that I’m the first person to express my displeasure of Madrid’s players when they do something I do not approve of. if di maria’s play acting resulted in a red card for a barca player, then we’ll have something substantial to talk about. till then he’s just one out of a million players who dive (sad but true). also, after he dived, you didnt see all 11 madrid players hound the ref to whip out a card, or madrid subs bothering the 4th official at the touchline. the reason we are all enraged at barca’s diving is because barca are the self proclaimed purists, who play ‘the best football ever’ and ‘just keep getting better’ (their words, not mine)

      • nicole permalink
        May 1, 2011 00:12

so because no red card is produced its different? cards are up to referees not teams..when people dive and try to trick referees even then it’s in the hands of the referees whether the card is given or not sometimes they realize the acting sometimes they dont but when it comes down to it a dive is a dive play acting is play acting.whether or not a card is produced is a different thing. whether done by a barca player or real player it is a disgrace.

Your emotions are clouding you, dear. Una is perhaps the most fair and unbiased blogger, who is also a supporter of a particular club.

Una was not being biased. Una was speaking the truth that the entire world agrees with.

You know how good & unbiased Una has been FOR YEARS, so rather than accusing her, you should look at the facts. Una has shown us her integrity over and over again. For Una to make this post means that Barca went way, way over the line of decency.

Diving is part of football strategy, especially for attacking players. We Madrid fans have complained about DiMaria. Personally I think it has more to do with perfecting his diving skill, as Messi has done, so that it looks more natural.

But we call him out when necessary. No Madrid player came close to the disgusting display that Barca showed in this match. I suggest you rewatch Alves antics. Perhaps read some non Spanish press, the Spanish press is frequently inbred & paints Madrid & Mou as evil in general. It is just not the case.

It’s ok. You team is not perfect. You will feel better if you learn, like we Madridistas, how to call out the truth when you see it.

Barca looks very very bad when they are willing to cheat to THIS DEGREE, it looks as if they have power to manipulate the match behind the scenes through UEFA, all that make them look like cowards.

Mourinho playing a defensive strategy is not shameful anti-futbol. Barca’s display was clearly anti-futbol, it was unsporting. Winning at any cost is not winning.

Ummm I saw this video……..do you know how hard it is to do what this video shows? It is almost certainly edited. If you are trying to kick a ball in the forward direction, your pushing your leg in that direction with a certain momentum, in order to reverse that momentum in the fashion that happened to alves, there has to be a stronger force pushing in the other direction, in this case that force was pepe’s cleats on his shit, just look how far his leg spins backwards…….that simply can not be done alone. I have been a black belt in taekwondo for some time now and in order to reverse the momentum of your leg from one direction to another is extremely difficult, let alone in a way that is happening to alves, just look at his body reaction. Add on to that the fact that video editing software is readily available and very easy to use, and you get this. As another user pointed out in another thread, there is a frame missing in that video (that being the one where pepe made contact). Whoever made this video should be ashamed of themselves….truly disgraceful

Let’s quit the joking that you are a Madridista. Why don’t you get your own Barca blog.

Also have you ever played football? Because the movements you call impossible are completely possible and quite common. It is something football players learn to protect themselves as football is a game with much contact. THE MOVEMENTS ARE COMMON.

Also, no disrespect to true Taekwondo masters, but if you can’t do these movements then I’m assuming your parents purchased your “Black Belt” in one of those notoriously common taekwondo “belt factories”.

I have “Black Belts” in Kali, Pecak Silot and Temple Style Tai Chi (though our Sifu does not use these belt terms), have played football and can perform these movements you call immpossible.

Furthermore, everyone saw the match. We have rewatched the match. We watched another match where Barca made clear contact with Xabi Alonso knee and no foul was given.

Pepe was given a foul for INTENT. Do you even know what that is? It does not mean there was contact. It means it was a dangerous challenge.

This was a CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL, not a league match. All care should have been made by the official to maintain the integrity of the match nd keep 11 per team. Xabi Alonso was karate-kicked in the WC final & the official did not red card because it was too early in such an important match to give such a lop-sided advantage. It’s very likely that Real Madrid would have won if Barca hadn’t cheated.

The official was no where near the incident and only reacted to Alves ridiculous theatrics. Alves jumped right back on the pitch with no sign of injury as soon as he accomplished his cowrdly aim.

Further several professional footballers, who know this game better than you, called out was was plain to EVERYONE IN THE WORLD – Barca were wrong. Barca cheated. Barca is going to get away with it again. Barca should be ashamed.

I hope that you will be calm and try to see things more clearly. Also I think you are a fraud. I think you are a Cule & I doubt you have any serious martial skill or you would not make such ridiculous comments about these common movements being impossible. The truth will set you free.

Good question! I think the self-righteousness of Barcelona FC is to blame. They just can’t accept that football is a sport where the aim is to win- how you set your team out to do so will vary and be different depending on who you play. With Barca, it’s one way, all the time. When challenged, they don’t like it and resort to the nonsense we saw last week (shame on you Busquets, Alves and Villa in particular)

As for conspiracy, just look at the refs favouritism for Barca in the CL semi two years ago with Chelsea and the sending off of Arsenal’s Van Persie at Camp Nou for what must go down as THE most ridiculous yellow card in Champions League history…and thats saying something. I’m glad Mourinho said it, because it finally shines a light on Barca’s poor and consistent gamesmanship and puts pressure on officials not no longer overlook it.

That may all be true, but there’s no reason for him to be so condescending when commenting on other teams, and it’s not just Real Madrid he does it against. He’s made these ridiculous statements about Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter, any La Liga team that dares to defend (as apparently that “isn’t football”), even the Spain NT opponents, and the list goes on and on. There’s nothing wrong with him praising Barca and the way they play as I’m sure he truly loves it, but there’s no need to constantly degrade others like he does and decide who does (Barca) and doesn’t (everyone else who plays against Barca) play football. THAT is obnoxious.

Sadly the evidence that Busquets said ‘mono’ isn’t compelling enough and no one appears to have asked Marcelo if that’s what he heard. Assuming that Busquets is racist because you think he said something in a blurry video is just as bad as someone using that word offensively.

Mourinho is to blame for Madrid’s poor performance. He quite blatantly ignored Cristiano’s plea for additional help up front. If anyone cares to take a look at Mourinho’s disciplinary records for all the teams he has managed you will see similar to what is going on in Madrid right now. Nervousness, agitated players and late tackles. The sooner Mourinho leaves, the sooner my team can return to the class act they used to be. Casillas has already raised concerns about the state of the team morale and now, according to El Pais today, the entire vestuario is angry.

I understand there are people who will read this who know nothing of Real Madrid since they decided to be fans after the World Cup. There are better days ahead without a manager who is in control of the press room but not on the field.

As for the racist incident with Busi, the silence from Camp Nou is DEAFENING. Barca will recieve no sanction, and their will be no apology. I predict that there will be an anti-racism campaign with Busi and Keita or Abidal. Or they’ll send him to Africa to do a UNICEF campaign.

It’s quite obvious that they DO NOT CARE. It’s obvious that UEFA doesn’t care about anything other than jerking off Pep’s ego.

Mou is obnoxious and in your face. I’d rather deal with that, then this fake, bitchassness that lives and breathes in the Camp Nou. The 5-0 ass thrashing RM got in November was because of crappy play. I think Barca were pissed because they thought it was going to continue to happen, and when it didn’t they got desperate.

The Pinto thing is neither here no there to me at this point. In November, Sergio got pissed and slapped Puyi. I’ve never heard anything nasty or negative come out of his mouth about opponets, and I don’t think he’s a general douche. Valdes is a great keeper, but he’s waaaaaaaaaaaaay to involved in calls on the middle of the damn field. Keep your ass in the box where you belong, and let Puyi sort things out from the middle. Also, he’d be a terrible choice as SNT CA. He’s way to derisive and I believe would completely favor his Catalan teammates. PK knows what he said that’s why he’s acting like a good little boy now.

Excellent comment. It’s starting to seem that one thing that sullies Barca is the Xenophobia. It’s sad when those who should understand what it feels like to be persecuted, turn around and become the persecutors…or at least condone & diminish it. VERY VERY TRAGIC & SICK. Yes the silence is deafening. UEFA will punish RM for being honest and shove the lie down our throats that Barca did no wrong.
I wish people could put the past in the past and just honor the football with integrous action. Not likely to happen though….

I hope that now that Sergio & CR7 have seen the video that they can intervene and ask him about it.

hey, thanks very much for the cinema post.

I’d thought that by the fourth el clasico, they’d be over by all this childish rivalry, but it only seems to get worse. I don’t know, but I feel more upset with the officials than the players, because players always just play for the love of soccer, yeah? Or maybe its become just like any other job.

also, uh, they way the coaches spoke before the match didn’t leave good impressions for the players, I think.

I’m sure they must be friends in real life, but I wonder, if after matches like these, if they just forget about what happened on the field.

Una, I love your posts, especially in your La Roja blog. I completely understand the emotions running riot between Madridistas and Cules. However, I would have to say that you are a bit blinded by your being a Madridista in this post. To support Mourinho, after such cowardice and negative tactics, is something that baffles me. To me, he stands for everything that Real Madrid is NOT. It is a shame that such a beautiful institution is being sullied by this man.

And I disagree that Di Maria, Cristiano and others committed the “less” offense or they were the lesser evil. Diving is disgraceful, in any degree. Oh, and Pepe is a crazy lunatic. He probably did not deserve the red card on the Alves thing, but he would have gotten carded on another offense. I could never understand why this player is being tolerated by the Real Madrid administration.

Erm…when exactly did Cristiano dive in this game? Because I don’t seem to recall him doing so, so please kindly leave him out of it when mentioning those that did. I’m sure when he actually does do it the whole world and the media will be happy to dissect it to death like they always do and you’re free to join in then.

Whether Pepe would have been carded for another offense later on or not is irrelevant, the only thing that matters is that the one he was carded for was unjustified. If you have no intention of calling the game based on what’s going on on the field at the time and choose instead to base every decision and card awarded on past games then there’s no point even bothering to play the game, just card everyone before the game starts and send them home for “something you think they might do in the future”.

It’s a bit much to say madrisdistas are “blinded” just because they support Mou. To agree or disagree on one point or another doesn’t make one any less of a fan.

The world agrees that Barca were much worse in this match. You are the one being blinded by your loyalty to Barca right now. Please read that sentence again. It is obvious.

Una is very fair and classy in her posts, which is why Cules even read this blog. She has a history which shows her good character and fairness. You really, really need to take a look in the mirror.

Your blindness is doubled in your view of Mourinho. He showed no cowardice or negative tactics. Just because he had a brilliant strategy involving defensive tactics does not make it NEGATIVE. He has a team that has been together less than a year. Contrary to your Barca bias, Defense is as importance as Offense.

The Barca team was NOT GOOD ENOUGH to beat his tactics without cheating. La Roja, however, were good enough to beat ALL TEAMS who used defensive tactics. This should be proof enough that Barca did not win the world cup ALONE. They cannot win to this strategy without their non Barca NT teammates.

Mourinho is discriminated against by Spain in general. Many believe the disgusting media (which is amazingly worse and more inbred than England press). Even Madridistas fall for this garbage.

All of Spain is afraid that if Mourinho is allowed to continue as Real Madrid’s manager he will form another unstoppable Madrid side that will completely dominate Spanish football for years to come. Look what he has acomplished in less than a year. He has Barca scared and reduced to CHEATING to try to defeat his side. The way Mourinho is being treated in Spain is ONE OF THE MOST DISGUSTING DISPLAYS OF COWARDICE THAT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED.

This is THE WORLD COACH OF THE YEAR. You, like many are limited by the ignorant, prejuditial boundaries of you own mind. The truth is staring you in the face. Mourinho is brilliant, speaks his mind, has integrity and none of you know how to handle him – so you try and try to discredit him. It’s cowardly and disgusting to be honest.

Our players in no way approached the disgraceful play of Barca in this match. It is known by THE WORLD. DiMaria did not roll around like his entire body was on fire to draw a red with absolutely no bady contact or injury, the way ALVES did.

Shows what you know when you mention Crisiano, who does no more diving than any other forward now. Even DiMaria has toned it down over the season and unlike your fan base, we never lied about him.

Well as a cule I have a few things to say even though I’m asking for a Madridista bashing just by commenting.
    1) We all for the most part dislike Busquets, especially me. He’s such a bad actor he could never be up to par like Marcelo or Cristiano. I watched the video of him “supposedly” saying mono and its unclear so as of now it’s just a conspiracy. However, many of us cules have agreed that if he did call marcelo a “mono” he just be fined and suspended for a LONG time. Personally I’d like to punch him in the face a few times just to give him a real reason to fall over.

    2) Did you think Barcelona was going to sit around and get slapped, pushed, and stepped on while hoping the ref sees and thus makes the right call if appropriate? HELL NO. We did exactly what Madrid does, we amped up the theatrics to get the right calls made. Did you think Pep would just go on ignoring Mou’s mind games and insults like “teams that play against Barca don’t even try”? Um..nope sorry. Again Pep learned from Madrid and did the same things Mou’s been doing with the press. Doesn’t feel good to have that kind of competition in the PR department does it Mou?

    3) If you are relying on Punto Pelota’s video of the Pepe-Dani Alves foul then you have an unreliable and biased source who has manipulated the video but taking out body parts from the still frames leaving behind phantom legs that prove the video was altered. It is phsyically impossible to for someone who is already off the ground going forward to suddenly spin the way Dani did without having been kicked on by a strong force. You can see his leg recoil by the impact. Whether people choose the believe it or not..well that’s another story. If people want Pepe vindicated then its up to UEFA to view the full video, unaltered and NOT from Punto Pelota or Madrid’s website. Unbiased and objectionable. If he truly did not make any contact with Dani’s leg then the unaltered original video will prove it and Alves can then be reprimanded by UEFA for dramatizing it. Which brings me to another point, if Marcelo or Cris were in Dani’s situation they would milk that moment for all they could and probably receive a penalty AND the opposing player would get a red. In this game of football Madrid and Barca were both guilty of putting on a show. Barcelona learned from the kings of theatrics and so the student has become the master.

    4) Mou’s press conference was shameful. He sounded like a person who just had a nervous breakdown with a case of paranoia. We all know he says things to stir up controversy and supposedly keep the spotlight on him so his players aren’t under pressure but even this baffled some of us Cules(and we aren’t usually baffled by Mou). And then Madrid followed his lead and posted that video and tweets, pathetic of a grand club who prides themselves with “morals” and being respectful. Barcelona’s reputation was insulted, our trophies and wins were questioned, we were accused of bribing UEFA because of our relationship with UNICEF. That’s slander, punishable by law. If someone insulted Madrid and its honor, Madrid would be doing the same thing Barcelona is doing. Exercising their legal options. This wasn’t Mou saying “Barcelona sucks, they’re stupid, etc” this was an accusation(in the form of a “question”/rant) of CORRUPTION within a respectable institution. We have every right to file a complaint against Mou just like Real Madrid has every right to file a complaint against Barcelona if we would have done the same.
Hell we could make the claim that the CDR final was in a way bought by Mou’s psychological tactics during his press conferences before the games where he bitched and moaned about never being able to end a game with 11 against Barca. Surprise, surprise..the ref was reluctant to make calls because he had been psychologically pressured and bullied by Mou. Anyone who tries to deny that is blind beyond belief and is drinking the kool-aid that Mou has been serving up.

    5) The thing that worries me the most. As a La Roja fan, Mou has done damage the the relationships between the players. You can tell from the hate they have for each other(Ramos, Albiol, Arbeloa, Busquets, Villa, etc). This will be have serious consequences in the end. It is a pitty and incredible that because of one man who indoctrinated his players with his hate and his brand of tactics that everything the players from Madrid and Barcelona have worked for since the Euro ’08 has gone down the drain. The power and influence of one man is incredible.

This animosity has been gaining momentum for a LONG time. It is only now that this ticking time bomb has exploded and everyone is going at it. I’m sick of all this controversy, frankly I’d prefer there be no more clasicos than the customary two. I wasn’t even able to enjoy Messi’s two fantastic, amazing goals because these two teams can’t shut up and just play football.

    • May 1, 2011 11:21

Regarding your points, I don’t mind how Barcelona responded, because that’s what any smart team would do when faced with a situation like this.

However, they should then shut up about how only they play beautiful football, if they’re going to change their tactics and resort to using Madrid’s “theatrics.” Especially when they keep talking about how what Madrid plays is not football. They can’t have it both ways.

I think there are Madrid fans who could also argue the exact opposite as you, saying that Barcelona is the king of theatrics, that Barcelona bullied UEFA into the choice of referee for this game, etc. The two sides are never going to agree. But I think that saying that Mou managed to somehow influence his Spanish players to hate their fellow countrymen is going too far. There’s no conclusive proof yet, unless you want to cite as proof that their handshakes in the past game were a bit cooler than they were before. That would be as bad as judging Busquets based on an unclear video.

Here we go with more blind, blind loyalty from Cules on the Madridista blog. Me thinketh you protesteth too much.
      1) Busquets did say it. It is clear. He will get away with it and it is being swept under the rug. This is proving that Barca get preferrential treatment and there is corruption behind it. You should be sickened as a football fan and human being that this is happening.
2)No, just no. You are in denial. You probably don’t follow any other leagues if you can makke these rediculous statements. Everyone knows the ACTORS Barcelona are, beyond all others…just ask ARSENAL. Madrid played the fall clasico after being together for 3 months and all of your judgements are apparently based on that match. Even then RM didn’t act to the point of Barca. Just remember Messi’s rediculous dive. But we all accepted what went on, we were not ready. But we are ready for Barca now & Barca took the acting beyond any acceptable behavior in this match. Barca get preferential treatment regarding calls in general & you beleive the hype, that they are not rough when they are pressed.
3)The Punta Pelota video has been proven to be legitimate and was NOT TAMPERED WITH. The opposing Barca supporting video was proven to be a fraud. Alves cheated. There was no contact on Alves and he cheated, cheated, cheated and should be punished and banned. His behavior was disgusting and ANTI-FOOTBALL. UEFA will do nothing because apparently they are in BED WITH BARCA and Barca should be ashamed. We all know UEFA/FIFA have little to no integrity.
4)Mou’s press conference was wonderful. It is wonderful that he speaks truth to a bunch of liars and phoneys. He is the one man proclaiming that the nude Emperor is Wearing No Clothes. Those who trash him are afraid of him. So many sheeple, so many followers who do not know how to think for themselves and wouldn’t know the truth if it hit them in the face…. You don’t accept Barca’s shameful behavior & the horrific job done by a biased official(that Barca wanted & Barca got) so of course you give no value to the truths that he spoke. Ignorance is bliss for you. Not too mention UEFA’s handling of the matter. Their bias toward Barca is stunning.
5)If La Roja faces problems connecting it is NOT MOU’S FAULT. The fault will rest firmly on Barca’s players, management and administrations shoulders. Nice try deflecting the blame onto Mou. He did not create this mess. He went out to play the best futbol his team could play. Barca cheated, Barca s*** in the mouth of the integrity of futbol. It will be up to those from Barca to heal any rifts they have caused. Mourinho is not to blame. Blaming Mourinho is your knee-jerk reaction for everything. It is a LIE. Barca shamed football and disrespected RM and their teammates from the NT, not Mourinho.

And Messi gets too much credit for his goals on 10 men, who were in shock at the fact that they were cheated out of a fair match. If he had scored them in a fair match, I would have respected.

Can’t believe Una picked Xavi first. He didn’t act, and he has been talking about “style” for quite a while, both in Barca and La Roja. I think it’s something he genuinely believes in. I wouldn’t call it arrogant, but pure pride. I know this is a cheap shot, but at least Barca has something to stick to after losing a game. Does Madrid still have their “personality/style/beauty of the game” under Mourinho?

Yes there was theatre, plenty of it actually. How about the DiMaria classic that gave Masch a yellow? And personally, from the offensive way some of the Madrid players have been playing whole season, I can see several reds coming.. All in all, I think Barca let themselves bullied last time in the Copa, so they played in kind this time, and won what they deserved.

BTW. there was no such incidents in the Nov. Classico, when Mourinho still had his last respect of what Madrid represented, and didn’t blatantly adopt his infamous anti-football tactics.. Things are different now and Madrid won their Copa. But seriously, if playing like this under Mou delivered horrible matches but titles, will Madrid just adopts this mentality and goes on playing like this forever? Is there any Madridista who is really OK with this?

pundits have criticised mourinho since god knows when. ‘he’s brash, he’s disrespectful, he’s scandalous’. and yet, the fans and his players LOVE him. chelsea, milan, porto..these fans remember him fondly, the players still love him and he still feels an emotional connection to those clubs.

so yes, us madridistas LOVE mourinho, and as ramos said, are with him to the death. and thats the mark of a good coach. not what central bank of barcelona pays half-brained ‘journalists’ to write. mourinho doesnt care what the past presidents and greats and media pundits think. he cares about the fans. if the fans want him gone, then he’ll go.

In case you haven’t noticed, we do play attacking football often throughout the season. Please, don’t judge our style if the clasicos are the only RM games you watch.

Sorry another cheap shot.. But doesn’t this mean Madrid is admitting Barca’s superiority?

No it doesn’t. It just means Barca still hasn’t find a way to penetrate a well-set up defence and score enough goals for a win, when it’s 11 against 11.

even the new york times made a comment about how madrid came out with seven deffenders blah blah blah. It’s like the whole world is blinded to the fact that Barca is NOT a perfect team although they may win a lot of things they really need to learn sportsman ship and so does madrid. But people always say “oh real madrid suck they have dirty tactics.” well if they were REALLY dirty tactics the whole team would get red cards on numerous accounts so to all of you barca fans i implore you to look at your team with fresh eyes and really watch how they play.

Nobody said Barca was/is perfect. They are there to win matches not to be saints. But personally I think clubs have sortof responsibility towards the audience. And an ugly match is not what people waited for/expected.. Just imagine if in all those Classicos, Barca also decided to send out 7 defenders (not saying we have that many).. Then the classicos would have been the ugliest match in the season..

As Sid Lowe said, this may be another evidence why the away goal rule should be changed… 0-0 shouldn’t be a favourable result for the home team.
