off-day activities

May 5, 2011

Several Madrid players took advantage of their free day to go watch some tennis at the Caja Mágica.  Cristiano Ronaldo took in the match between Rafa Nadal and Marcos Baghdatis, which Rafa won.  Also in his box was Fernando Verdasco, who had lost in the first round, and rock band Maná, who had ended a concert in Madrid the other day by saying, “we’re leaving now, because we also want to watch the game between Barça and Real…” He also stayed for another match, watching Feliciano López lose to Roger Federer, along with Xabi Alonso, who was accompanied by wife Nagore and son Jon (you can see the top of his head in the picture below).

Others – Peter Lion, Sergio Canales, Esteban Granero, Gago, Khedira – trained voluntarily at Valdebebas.

And Sergio, taking advantage of the break accorded to him due to his ineligibility to play in Tuesday’s game, has been in Sevilla, enjoying the Feria de Abril and watching bullfights.  When asked about Pipa’s annulled goal, he said, “luckily, there were tons of cameras and everyone can see what happened with the goal.  I congratulate my teammates because they played a great game.  And now we’re going to fight for Liga until it’s mathematically impossible.”

Courtesy of Denis’ twitter, we find out that Castilla’s theme song in their quest to move up a division is “Me encanta la vida” (I’m assuming it’s this one).

So pity that there’s only a half head of little Jon we can see.
Wish they’re all in sunny mood now.

Cris’s glasses! :)) Are there any picts of his whole outfit? I love the man, but his questionable taste in fashon always makes me grin.

    • May 5, 2011 14:56

I just updated the post with a link to Cris’ whole outfit – click at your own risk since it involves a white Gucci belt.

his outfit is not too bad. and his gorgeous bod just shines through. but with the rest of his fashion mishaps, you’d think with a girlfriend in the fashion industry he’d have gotten it together by now.

Well, since she’s known more for what she doesn’t wear…

the trousers are weird. the fabric looks weird and it doesnt look like its a good fit. plus the front pockets are ghastly. he’s lucky he’s hot.

Thanks Una! 🙂 Hey by his standards this is actually pretty good. I mean, all we have is the belt and glasses matching. No shiny stuff or glitter anywhere!!

  6. May 5, 2011 14:16

Thanks for posting 🙂 You’ve probably been super busy with the amount of clasicos and stuff to write up, so when I see off-day posts, it shows me how much of a dedicated fan you are.

    Keep it up, Una!

I’m happy to see them off the pitch and training grounds for a change! 😀 The Alonso family is looking great and Cris too from the waist up.

Good to hear that some players are extra motivated to train. I hope it gets them some brownie points with the boss.

That was a really delightful surprise watching the Madrid Open and seeing Xabi Alonso & Cristiano Ronaldo in the stands. I’m ashamed to say it made it kinda hard to concentrate on the Federer/Lopez game–they had such perfect seats you could almost always see them background.

I could’ve sworn I saw Antonio Adan there also seated with Ronaldo. Not next to him, but maybe a seat or two down. I’m finding it hard to actually provide any evidence of this, sorry. Are they close? Or at least consider themselves friends? I know Ronaldo was also there again today with I think Maná behind him and Fernando Verdasco and Antonio Adan close by. At least that’s what it looked like… either way, it’s making the matches much more fun!

Actually hang on. Ronaldo wasn’t there again today. My bad! Sorry everyone. Now that I’m actually watching the replay–because the live telecast was way too early when I was floating in and out of the channel… and consciousness–turns out they just showed an encore of Nadal’s game yesterday since his match today was cancelled because Del Potro (the guy he was supposed to play today) forfeited. He picked up a hip injury and had to pull out.

I was starting to wonder why everything was starting to look very strangely familiar. Hahaha. Sorry about that! And thank you for your posts, Una! They are always so wonderful!

    Yay! Madrid Open time!
I have watched the Federer vs Feli game and I was keeping an eye on our boys the whole time.
Xabi and Nagore were always trying to make Jon stay in his seat. By the end of the game I could see from their gestures that they were telling him its going to be over soon! That was an exciting game.

Una, we all know that Rafa is a Madridista and Verdasco. I think Feli too. But who does Ferrer and the retired Moya support?

naomi, goal.com is a disgrace of a website that does nothing to hide their allegiance to certain clubs. most of what they report are fruits of their own admission. i recently saw on my google home page (cause i’ve long stopped visiting goal.com) that according to them (and El Pais), mourinho is punishing benzema for refusing to criticise the refs in the prematch presser before the second leg against barca and that is why he was made to sit on the bench. also that zidane is not happy with mourinho for not playing benz. is this journalism? buckets of crap, more like.
