repeat after me: UEFA is a joke
UEFA has slapped José Mourinho with a five-game suspension, with one game already served (this week’s Champions League semifinal second leg) and the fifth game to be suspended for a probationary period of three years. He was also fined €50,000. This punishment comes as a result of his “dismissal from the bench in the first leg” and his “inappropriate statement at the post-match interview.”
Meanwhile, for being sent off, Pepe has been suspended for one match, which is considered to be the second leg semifinal match.
Madrid has also been fined €20,000 for the “improper conduct of their supporters.”

José Pinto was suspended for three matches for slapping Arbeloa and trying to throttle Chendo, with the first one already served, and the second to be the Champions League final on May 28.
The clubs have three days to appeal, and Madrid has already announced it will, as the club ” considers this resolution still suffers from the same defects found at the start of the disciplinary case, which made it impossible for our coach to use his right to defend himself, since the exact statements for which the disciplinary case was opened are still unknown.”
And so far, there have been no announcements over whether UEFA is investigating Iker and/or Cristiano, or if they will investigate Barcelona for the pitch invasion and throwing of objects, which is only fair because they opened proceedings against Madrid for those very same things and decided on a fine.
And if you want to indulge in a little more sarcastic laughter, here is Dani Alves’ comment after the last game – oh, the irony of it: “I believe you have to know how to compete, win and lose. Real Madrid doesn’t know how to lose (gracefully).

beyond. beyond.
una, I really hope that one day, world will be with us..for our team,no matter no one will support and defend this escudo, I will. n I hope all of the Madridista will n always..keep working hard lads!!
Honestly, this makes Mourinho’s “rant” all the more legitimate. I really hope some of the rumors about Zidane/RM Board not being comfortable with Mourinho aren’t true and, if they are, that they realize he has been right all along.
And, of course, saying how shameful something is takes precedence in the “offending UEFA-Barcelona” partnership more than saying something completely ignorant and racist. Of course. When will that decision be made?
THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
So racism is all right then by the UEFA huh? What a useless bunch of hypocrites!
Sigh….
What about Busquets? Still no word on thAt mess. He’s going to get away with it, I just know it!
Sigh. It’s amazing, isn’t it? We do it, we’re investigated. Other people do it, it’s perfectly fine. I sincerely believe a double standard exists.
RM is also appealing the other decision about unsportsmanlike conduct vs. Barcelona.
I see now that barca owns uefa, and we dont have any power.
Such injustice! One fine day, UEFA and its cohort will face the consequences of their actions.
Yes, I believe that day will come not too soon, and honestly, I hope our players won’t learn the shamful skill from Barca, we could play strongly, but not uglily
Bollocks is the only word that comes to mind at this moment. It’s is absolutely ridiculous.
Well I used to get mad for so much hate from commentors, other fans, and everyone else towards Madrid. I think it’s the most hated club 😦
But now I’m used to it. And UEFA……..I just don’t know what to think anymore 😦
This blows my mind! Is UEFA serious?!
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. I completely agree that UEFA should investigate the second match for the pitch invasion and object throwing, and fine Barcelona the same amount. It’s absolutely ridiculous to fine one and not the other.
And still nothing on Peek-a-Busquets and his racist comments at Marcelo? Ugh.
I’d say: give the €70,000 to poor children who could really use this money, not to UEFA. They don’t deserve it.
I’m sure all the money they collect will benefit the prestegious Barcelona Acting Academy.
my thought exactly… they seem like they are trying to make more money of this case…but if this is true, why don’t they appeal on barcelona as well? we would at least be left with the moral satisfaction!
They should have hang him instead for the crimes against humanity he had committed !!!
This is beyond being a joke. UEFA acts as a bloody dictator of football. Its time for those who believe in fair play, justice and common human values to stand for objection.
There is a proverb that says: I was killed when they killed the white bull. i.e. Real Madrid is the first to be subjected to this harsh treatment, but will not be the only one, many will follow…
UEFA is a DISGUSTING institution.
repeat a thousand times. scandalous.
What do you mean this is a joke? Jokes are at least funny. This is complete bullshit.
I can’t believe he got a larger sanction than someone who actually physically assaulted two people.
They are such a disgrace. They couldn’t possibly have justified Mourinho’s comments any better if they’d tried.
THROTTLE (verb): to attack or kill someone by strangling or choking.
So what was that? To insult uefa is worse than both racist slurs AND physical assault of two players? Exactly when did uefa become He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Insulted?
UGH! vayaaaa caraaaaa……
PS Una, LOVE the double posting of those Iker gif’s… like he’s talking to Mou- or us 😉
and not even a funny one
UEFA is more than a joke. Why have an institution like that, when they do no good or justice. It’s completely pointless to have idiots discuss serious matters such as Barcelona’s strategy being provoking real madrid players to get carded.
But the members of uefa must feel they do a swell job and that what they do matter…………
If the UEFA charges us for “improper conduct of their supporters”, what about all the crap that happened in camp nou?! Racists chants, pitch invasion, they HAVE to investigate that otherwise i may boil up and march my bum to Switzerland and have a few words with them!
Arrrr!
Just when you think that things couldn’t get more like a really weird dream, where all sorts of things happen without a rational explanation – UEFA proves you wrong! I agree with the comment that barca owns UEFA – what is the point of having such a corrupt organization governing football and ruining the game?
It would be really nice to see Man United trash barca although the football experts keep saying that is not likely to happen.
Sure, Barca are the favourites but don’t underestimate Man Utd. As long as the boys get in their face and work hard, there’s a great chance. Giggs needs to play for organisation and experience in the middle, Fletcher available, Ji Sun Park for his phenomenal work rate and CL experience, Rio and Vidic are a must and our strikers need to be switched on (yes, U, Rooney!).
Man Utd is my team, RM my La Liga favs: I want this win with everything!!
As for Uefa decision making, pshh. No more to be said.
Really. whats with Mou’s three years probation period.. why so long? what kind of crime he had done?
If Mou “inappropriate statement” could get such punishment, how about racist gesture?
If someday UEFA do give punishment for Iker gesture, but let any suspicious diving without investigation nor punishment, i’ll religiously believe that UEFA is a JOKE.
Ridiculous, but unsurprising.
Popping in again, but I had to say this–the “Vaya cara” gif is 100% perfection. Perfect usage. Perfect Iker.
We also don’t know how to fall gracefully, Alves.
Perhaps you should teach us because you have so much experience.
Zing!
This made me laugh. So thank you, for helping me see the funny side of this whole joke.
It’s nice to know that UEFA is tackling the really important issues in football like snoods and trying to prevent Mou from ever coaching another CL game in his life instead of unimportant issues like racism. Bravo.
If I’m not mistaken, UEFA announced that they were investigating Mou and Real Madrid the day after the first leg game. I haven’t heard anything yet about them investigating any issues in the second game (like Barca’s own pitch invader) besides the Iker and Cris rumors. What a joke.
UEFA is a joke! What about 2nd leg when a man ran onto the field and tried to put a hat on CR7?
How about the ball invasion during first half? What about the racisim comments from Busquets
I can’t wait to see what the outcome from May 16 investigations are!
this is totally ridiculous and injustice! pinto only got 3 suspension!? so unfair. these UEFA’s decisions are ridiculous. i think their heads got struck by a train so they can’t think clearly.
I have also read that they rejected Madrid’s appeal. Dirty b*stards! What a farce, particularly that they saw nothing wrong with Busquet’s racist comment. If Barca, truly had thought that it wasn’t true, they certain would have added THAT to their claim that Madrid hurt their reputation by posting the video on their website.
Does UEFA realize how they’ve pretty much just confirmed what Mou has accused them of AND how ridiculous they now look to the rest of the world?!
My god, UEFA is a joke. Sarcastic laughter is probably the most PG thing I can do right now.
I won’t write anymore for fear of letting loose some inappropriate language.
adk;hagdjaj;fakl;hdlk;hl f;ajf akl
unbelievable. simply unbelievable. uefa is such a joke of an organization
So now we know where it stands:
5 match ban – speaking words that are offensive to UEFA and Barcelona
3 match ban – physically attacking a RM player
Nothing at all- speaking words that are offensive to a RM player and more importantly, should be morally abhorrent to everyone, everywhere.
Bravo, UEFA.
B-R-A-V-O.
I’m just going to laugh to keep myself from breaking things in rage.
And Dani Alves needs to shut his face.
I had a horrendous nightmare last night where Mou picked up a hook of 14 matches. Ridiculous, I know. But somehow when I saw 5 matches (that now are just 3), I wasn’t that upset… 🙂 Considering how bad is the relationship between UEFA and Mou, I think the punishment could be much worse.
What I consider an absolute joke is the punishment given to Pepe. If he really had make a violent fault, that risk Alves’ physical integrity, he would have got at least 3 games. So, this probably means that UEFA realize that everything was just an acting scene of Alves, right? They are so disgusting. 😦
UEFA IS A BIG JOKE.
In the same manner that Barcelona has ruined their precious reputation, UEFA has also ruined theirs (at least to me). See the correlation between these two? Hmmm…
I cannot believe the fines for such “offenses” are ridiculously pricey. I just hope they use all the money to educate some people on how to respect their fellow players… maybe educate them about the history of slavery and the fight to obtain freedom and equality. Invest all the money on Sergio Busquet’s education, perhaps? Teach him some manners.
POR QUE, POR QUE?
I would understand if he did anything controversial, kicked someone or something like that. But for God’s sake, the man spoke his mind (and it was not even in the most offensive way he could have, knowing him)!!!No matter what he said, he’s entitled to have his opinion, he’s an adult guy from a free country, in free country!
UEFA behaves as if they were the “owners” of the game. Not good, not good, where’s the freedom of speech, you guys???
I hope some good lawyers would successfully appeal this disgraceful decision. If anyone asks, I am here, ready to defend TSO ( a girl can dream, no?);-))))
I don’t even know what to say… perhaps UEFA misread Barca”s jersey and thought “unicef” was “uefa” … just kidding.
Is bitchassness a sexually transmitted disease? Because I really don’t want Barca and UEFA to pass this on to RM board/management.
I have NO respect for Farca. They diminish their own talent with the diving and theatrics, turn the entire racism campaign into a fucking joke, and insult millions of people around the world with their words.
I’m an effin AMERICAN for fuck’s sake…footie isn’t even big here, and I’m all to peices over this horseshit.
Ridiculous….I don’t blame Mou for not speaking. I understand why Spanish footie is a joke to many.
Go ManUnited….
Barcelona’s insurance company comes to bat for them again
The most disgusting part of this is that they haven’t even bothered to look into the Busquets incident and instead are looking for further things to bother Madrid about, namely Iker and Cris’ comments! I will be laughing bitterly if they try and come out with another anti-racism ad any time soon
i believe the only answer to all that crap is to kick some real ass next season and win everything.
scoring lots of goals so no stupid referees could cancel….. and no Oscar winning actors could roll on the ground.
we r the kings of football.
HALA MADRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID
carefull with disrespecting” barca and uefa, you might get banned for a few matches or even a whole tournament
but seriously uefa is corrupt, and i dont know why people dont get it
Okay I got it. Speaking against UEFA is a far more serious offence than physical attacks or making racist insults. Nice world we live in, eh?
My mind is honestly just blown.
It’s a real shame that they’re giving out a longer ban for telling it like it is than for physical violence! And they completely neglect the Busquets case. UEFA, please get your priorities straight!!
so racism apparently goes unpunished, but defending yourself is a crime. yeah, that makes total sense.
i’d say i’m surprised by the decision, but sadly, i am not. the double standard which exists here is glaringly obvious and completely shameful.
I cannot wait until Barca tries this crap with United…those nutty English politicians will get involved and shove it up UEFA’s you-know-what! Right now, sadly, I see no other way for Real to get justice.
I fail to see how suspending a reserve keeper is a punishment… And I fail to see Barcelona’s logic in appealing it.
Maybe I live in a fantasy world, but if you’re going to fine Real Madrid for the pitch invasion and throwing objects on the field then you sure as hell need to fine Barcelona for the same things! And not just Barcelona but every other club who has thrown things at other teams.
I tried really hard to be unbiased in this… But why should when UEFA obviously isn’t trying as hard as I am?
Why does this not surprise me anymore? :(((((
UEFA is such a joke. And a racist comment goes unpunished. Oh I see their priorities are straight.
oh Alves, who were the ones who turned on the sprinklers last year?? repeat after Drogba: UEFA is a “****ing disgrace”
Well. What can I say. Disgusting and more proof that Mourinho was absolutely correct. The inequity is stunning. UEFA turn the beautiful game to dirt. They have no shame. Its very refreshing to hear the response from non racist neutrals. It is wholeheartedly in our favor. That doesn’t change the fact that UEFA is just horrible. It makes me sick.
Hi Una, I am one of the many silent but frequent visitor of Following Real Madrid and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the time and effort you put on your blog. It’s very helpful and enjoyable to us non-spanish speaking fans. Ever since I discovered FRM and Headbands and Heartbreak being a Madridista has been more fun! And I don’t have to use Google Translate and Babelfish as much. So, thank you!!!
I just felt the need to express my appreciation after finding out about the troubles you’ve been having with your other blog.
hey there! 🙂 Una’s amazing isn’t she?
Hey, you! Yes, she’s doing a wonderful job! 🙂
Uefa & Barca, feel shame on you!!!!! Football insult!!!!!
I support Madrid to appeal, we have to voice out, otherwise they will keep to do it again and again
Now Barca appeal for Pinto, how shame they are!!!! No need to tell us you owns UEFA, we all know that result, maybe Ikea and CR will be punished, but I am sure no one in Barca will be punished
In true gossip girl fashion O.M.F.G!
Still no UEFA investigation for the pitch invasion in Barcaelona? Throwing things on the field? Or racists chants? But looking into gestures and comments?!
This whole thing makes me feel so hopeless and all I want is fair treatment! In the words of the great Mou, “por gue”?!?! I’m half tempted to start calling the UEFA and give them a piece of my mind, the amount of power they have is unbelievable! I read a few places that many members in the UEFA have Barcelona ties and now n it all makes sense!
