a bit of Madrid on this Saturday

June 11, 2011

Kids and adults love it so: Iker’s in Mexico promoting his campus; he was in Mexico City on Thursday and Monterrey on Friday.  There, he told the media that if he had to choose between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, he would choose Cristiano, because “he’s mine.”  Well, it only took Iker one whole season to come around to Cris’ side!  (Apparently, Sara has traveled to Mexico to join up with Iker and spend a few days of vacation together before he hits the next stop on his summer tour, Chile, so Iker may change his mind at any time because Sara thinks that Cris is individualistic.)  Anyway, Iker’s spreading his football and personal values to budding footballers around the world, and from his interaction with the children, I can tell he’s going to be a great father!  He’s also carrying out his duties as a UN ambassador while on tour.

(In case you’re wondering: I love candy, and one of my favorite brands is Haribo, and their slogan is “kids and adults love it so,” and when I see pictures like these of Iker, that’s what I think.  It applies perfectly to him.)

Those jeans are a travesty.  Horrible, horrible, horrible.

News briefs: Mourinho has decided that Juanfran will join the first team during the pre-season.  And Madrid apparently wants Rubén de la Red to continue as assistant coach of the Juvenil A team, so yay!

International update: a couple more pictures of Karim Benzema with France last week (the first one for the merits of the composition, and the second for the merits of Karim’s thigh) and two of our Argentine players preparing for the Copa América yesterday.  Ángel got a haircut!  Side note: most of his teammates look like they could do with one as well, although we all know that they deliberately choose to have awful looking hair in a misguided attempt to look fashionable.  Fernando Gago is one such example, though he looks fine now, maybe because he’s getting married?

Player news: Jerzy Dudek, in an event in Warsaw celebrating the countdown towards the 2012 Euro, told reporters that he’s not ready to retire yet.  And since “my family is very happy in Spain and in Madrid, and my son has a girlfriend, my priority is not to leave football or the country.”  He revealed he has some offers from Spain, Turkey and England.  So we may get to see Jerzy play next season somewhere in Spain!  The Polish football federation, meanwhile, has offered to organize a tribute game to Jerzy, but he protested: “I’m not retiring yet!  Wait until I stop playing!”  Jajaja!!!

Emmanuel Adebayor told Joy FM, a radio station in Ghana, that “when I’m 31, I’ll retire from football.  I’ll return to Africa to take my kids to school every day.”  Adorable!  But too young, no?  We also found out that he wants to have a maximum of three kids.  Manu also said that he owns more than 28 houses in Ghana, Togo and around the world, but “I’ve purchased so many houses that I don’t even remember how many (laughs).”

Sergio Ramos attended Jesús Navas’ wedding yesterday, while Álvaro Arbeloa is in Vigo for our former canterano Diego López’ wedding, and Borja Valero is there too!  I’ve said this many times before, and I’ll say it again: I love it when canteranos stay friends.

And the gorgeous Miguel Torres showed up at Kenzo’s summer party in Madrid last Wednesday, as did Aitor Karanka and his wife, whose dress was absolutely perfect for the occasion.

And Kaká and wife Carol celebrated Luca’s third birthday with a party in Sao Paulo on Friday.  You all know my feelings towards Carol, so the only reason I’m posting about this is because reader Laryssa sent it in, and because Luca is adorable.  I love the matching father-son shirts, but why do they insist on putting a barrette in Isabella’s non-existent hair?

Since everyone is asking about it and no one bothered to do a search, here’s the post on why I dislike Carol.

Yum, Haribo!! Has anyone ever tried those peach gummies?!
Haha and those shoes are pretty Ikerish too.
I love Pipitaaaaaaa! And I like Angel’s new haircut. And Gago looked sooo handsome after his. His old hair was AWFUL, and I guess he had to straighten it every day…
Aitor and his wife make such a nice pair! and I also love her dress!

“…so Iker may change his mind at any time because Sara thinks that Cris is individualistic.” hehehe. I love it when you get all snippy!

I actually find Iker’s outfit ok. Yes, the jeans are truly horrid, but the shirt kinda makes up for it. And there isn’t any murse in sight! Aitor’s outfit on the other hand, had me cringing. If I had made the effort to dress up and look so pretty, I’d be pissed if my partner decided to come out in those fugly sneakers and that ghastly jacket. Aitor – why, just why?!!

Iker, I was just saying the other day how Iker needed a break from Sarah ( really why I think that, but he does for me) and good that he is in Mexico, then I read this lol.

Did I say thank you before Una for not forgeting to include Miguel picture always I hope he comes back to us and Benz thigh YUM!

Thanks for this update! Summer without football is always hard, but these little glimpses into live in/surrounding Real Madrid makes it better!
Does the announcement that Juanfran will join the team for preseason mean that no other canteranos will go? Hopefully, more of them (Morata/Sarabia/Alex Fernandez,…) will join the big boys as well!

hehe Ever Banega could definitely do with a haircut; there’s something about that hairstyle that most Argentines seem to have at one point or the other though, is it really fashionable in Argentina or something? =S

Hi, I haven’t been following this blog for very long so I am curious about the ”You all know my feelings towards Carol, so the only reason I’m posting about this is because reader Laryssa sent it in, and because Luca is adorable” part

luca is kaka’s mini-me! and i agree about the barrette, it looks silly — it actually looks like a small band-aid, like the poor thing has a cut on her head or something. i actually didn’t know you didn’t like caroline … is it b/c of that twitter thing a while back?

all this talk about iker being a great father makes me nervous. it isn’t that i don’t want him to have children, just not with … her. (and i really do wish/hope he can have an opinion about ronaldo independent of her influence. i don’t want a repeat of last season …) i do love how all the little ones flock around him, though. so precious!

karanka’s wife’s dress is lovely — and absolutely perfect for kenzo, you’re right (such lovely perfume!).

arbeloa tweeted a pic of him and carlotta at the wedding — they both look gorgeous! i’m serious, if he ever wants to leave football, he could model.

and i’m glad jerzy is staying in spain. it’d be great if he could play somewhere prominent in la liga next season. 🙂

Nice to see that Dudek has at last decided to PLAY football, and hope he gets a good club! Also, wouldn’t it be wonderful if by playing regularly and well next season he could seal a sensational return to the Polish team in time for Euro 2012? Not likely under circumstances, but you never can tell!

Speaking of which, reports have been rife that he might not stay in Spain and actually would return to the Premiership in England with Birmingham side Aston Villa. No real developments in that regard as of yet! To be honest though, I’m actually surprised that he got any offers given the chronic lack of football he’s had over the past six seasons!

As for Adebayor, HOW man houses does one person need?! And I can understand his willingness to retire early, let’s not forget that while he was on international duty with Togo during the African Nations’ Cup his team were subjected to a horrific gun attack which left one of his teammates paralyzed below the waist. Maybe he wants to have a more peaceful life or his kids.

I actually did do the search to find out your feelings about Carol, but in all fairness, it was a bit hard to find because I kept getting distracted by the more recent search results.;) I also wondered if there was any more to it that had happened previously because I don’t know much about her, but I think everyone is entitled to one mistake. Personally, I have given my favourite players many second (and more!) chances, so why not their wives?

Una, you are psychic… One whole day passes and Iker calls Cris his enemy. It really doesn’t matter what else he says along with that word, damage done. What an idiot. Could you please give his some diplomacy lessons along with those English tutorials? You deal with the hostile Barca fans so well, he might learn something for his next meeting with the press. Some time apart from that Sara person might also help.

  36. June 14, 2011 06:09
