all set for Dinamo & some random news

September 13, 2011

Can I just say how much I love these azure CL training shirts, and how fabulous everyone looks in them?  Mou looks good too!

Madrid held a training session this morning, and Xabi, Álvaro and Sergio might have been a little tired, after they stayed up until three or so in the morning, along with many other Spaniards, to watch Rafa Nadal in the U.S. Open final (¡vamos Rafa!) and tweet.   Anyway, this was Madrid’s last training session before tomorrow’s Champions League debut against Dinamo (20:45h).  The players worked out on Campo 2, and were joined by Jesé, Pablo Gil and Tomy Mejías from Castilla.  The players did their usual possession and control exercises, and followed that with a partidillo.

José Mourinho called up 21 players for this game, with Sami Khedira back in the fold, along with Lass.  Kaká (a bruised left heel injury from the hard tackle by Miguel Torres in the Getafe game) had joined the long-term injured players Sahin and Altintop in the infirmary, so he was out.  The players are due in Valdebebas right about now to head to Barajas.  Once in Zagreb, Aitor Karanka and Xabi Alonso will speak to the press (I’ll update this post later).

Goalkeepers: Iker, Adán, Tomás Mejías.

Defenders: Carvalho, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrão, Arbeloa, Albiol, Marcelo, Varane.

Midfielders: Özil, Xabi Alonso, Callejón, Di María, Khedira, Lass,  Granero.

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuaín.

No, there’s no way your pecs are bigger than mine.  I spend way more time in the gym than you do.

And the collection of random things:

– Crackòvia’s season premiere was yesterday, and while the show was a bit boring and hackneyed, their interpretation of the Mou-Vilanova confrontation did make me laugh.  The scene was this: two journalists, one pro-Madrid (Tomás Guasch) and one pro-Barcelona (Jordi Grau) gave their very differing versions of the fight (I’m sure you can tell which is which), and in the end [spoiler alert!], it’s determined that it was all “El del Bigote’s” fault.  Watch the rest of the video here.

– the referee of tomorrow’s game, Svein Oddvar Moen of Norway, is only 32 years old, which means he’s younger than some of the players that will be out there, such as our very own Ricky Carvalho.  He’s also a friend of Mou’s mortal enemy Ovrebo.

– sprinter Usain Bolt is currently in Zagreb, and he’s invited Real Madrid’s expedition to go see him race the 100 meters.  Apparently, FP and Emilio Butragueño have accepted the invite for this evening, and some of the players would like to go too.

– Ivan Kelava is Dinamo’s starting goalkeeper, and he spoke with Marca about the upcoming game and his rival in the opposite goal.  His answers are adorable.  And, they have more in common than you would have thought!

Tomorrow you face Iker Casillas’ team.  Do you like it when you’re called the Croatian Casillas?  Well, I don’t believe that’s right.  I shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same sentence as Casillas.  He’s a phenomenon under the posts, and he’s won everything – the World Cup, the Eurocopa, the Champions.  I have to work and improve a lot to be able to compare myself to him.

But you’re called Sveti Ivan, or San Juan in Spanish.  Casillas is called San Iker.  Really?  (Laughs) Well, it’s a coincidence.  I’m sure that my miracles, if you can call them that, are of much less importance than those of Iker Casillas.

– radio program “El Larguero” headed to Málaga last night, and spoke with three of their stars, former madridista Julio Baptista (the man who will be remembered for scoring the winning goal the last time Madrid won at the Camp Nou, on Dec. 23, 2007, until Madrid wins again), Santi Cazorla and Joaquín.  They also invited special musical guest David De María to perform a couple of his songs, and Julio joined him on “Precisamente ahora” (they’ve been good friends for a while).  It’s a good thing that was the song chosen, because it’s the only one of David De María’s songs that I remember, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good Julio is, so I’m recommending you all go here for a listen, or here for a bit of video.  David also changed the lyrics to include, “this year we’re going to make it to the Champions League.”

(By the way, if you’re interested, Fernando Llorente, Ander Herrera and Javi Martínez (!!!) were also on El Larguero the other night, and they were HILARIOUS!!!)

– now on sale: El Gordo (Spain’s big Christmas lottery, literally “The Fat One”) tickets with the number corresponding to Mou’s birthday.  The owner of the ticket kiosk (in Madrid) said a client that asked him to purchase this series, and that people have been calling to reserve their portions.  Will Mou bring them luck?  We’ll have to wait three months to see…

– the gossip mags are reporting that Cristiano took Irina to the ballet on Sunday, to watch Les Ballets de Monte Carlo perform “Sleeping Beauty.”  And he ensured that they got a lot of privacy, as he purchased six tickets for a VIP box, paying more than €700, although four of the seats remained empty so that Cris and Irina could spend some time alone.  The pair tried to draw as little attention to themselves as possible, coming in when the lights had already dimmed, and doing the same during the intermission and at the end.  And that sum of money is apparently nothing to Cris, considering that the adorable Cristiano Jr. was in head to toe Baby Gucci while watching his papá play on Saturday.

Naturally, Sergio went back and deleted that tweet… his tweets always seem to get him in trouble.

Absolutely hilarious! The part where Vilanova places his eye near Mou’s finger and Mou’s subsequent shocked/in pain reaction is especially brilliant. The high kick was funny too, but nothing beats the RM version. What an interpretation! :))

Thanks for the post, Una! 🙂

Love the training shirts are a great colour on the team!!

Any chance you will be translating some of the Javi(!!!) Floris and Ander El Longoro interview for Con La Roja- Totally understand if it’s more of a club thing. I just love all three of them!! Poor Ander’s out for a couple of months now with a tear in his meniscus 😦

Also Sergio, Arbeloa and Xavi were supporting Rafa via twitter last night-adorable even if the result went the wrong way!

No, it’s mostly about Athletic, so I can’t justify posting about it.

Haha, dying at that Crackovia part! Crackovia has been in my bad books ever since they used blackface for the Marcelo character, but I can’t deny they’re funny.

Btw, una, here’s an anecdote that I found funny: when Usain Bolt came to Zagreb yesterday, the mayor of Zagreb (Milan Bandić) gave him a Real Madrid jersey (with his name and the number 25) instead of a Croatian or a Dinamo one. I don’t know why, but this cracks me up. He’s such a dumbass.

Excited about the game tomorrow…! 😀 Even though it’s heartache mixed with acidic reflux, I still love the CL. Expecially the preliminary group stages, as they’re usually (…) quite relaxed :3

And I saw Tom Henning Øvrebø speak at a seminar about a year ago. He’s a psychologist, and a very reflected and funny man. He had some interesting things to say about what it was like being a referee, which made me respect the role they play a whole lot more.

i know you likely wouldn’t post them here, and i respect that, but have you seen the photos of baby CR7 with irina, his abuelita and coentrao’s baby daughter at the match? ADORABLE. (as someone at kickette said … cheating on kaka’s little isabella already?! heh!)

*sigh* how lucky is ronaldo that he gets to just go up to arbeloa and squeeze him whenever he wants?!

those answers from kelava were lovely — what a humble guy!
