all set for Osasuna!

November 5, 2011

You know what… I’m starting to get a little bored by the blog, and I’m sensing that some of you are too.  After all, there are now lots of other sites that do the same things I do.  So, if you have any feedback for me, or suggestions, I’d love to hear it, and if not, well, it’s been a good run and thank you for reading.  Anyway, I had already started preparing this post, plus a few others, so here it is.

The marathon of games continues… the team returned to training at Valdebebas at noon on Friday, apparently in a move to get them acclimated to playing at this hour (they had to also arrive by 09:30h).  The session saw the return of Álvaro Arbeloa (who had missed the last game due to injury) and Fábio Coentrão (who had to be subbed out of the game against Lyon due to pain), who joined 18 of their teammates on the field, plus Tomás Mejías.  That leaves Kaká, Carvalho and Marcelo as the injured players.

On Saturday, the team returned to training at the unusual hour of noon, with the final preparatory details for Sunday’s game against Osasuna being hammered out.  Once again, 20 players from the first team plus Tomás Mejías worked out, while the three injured players continued with their recovery processes.

Following the session, the list of players called up for the game was revealed, and on it was a name that everyone has been anticipating for a long time, that of Nuri Sahin.  He’s finally well enough to be called up!  Meanwhile, Álvaro Arbeloa returns after missing out on the last game, and Esteban Granero and Hamit Altintop were left out due to the coach’s decision (no, not Esteban!).  The team is due at the Bernabéu at 21:15h tonight, and as next week is the beginning of an international week and a half, the next training session won’t be until Wednesday morning.

I love the three distinct hair colors on the left, and how much everyone loves Manolín.  They were especially affectionate with him today because it was his cumple.  Anyway, the list of players called up is the following:

Goalkeepers: Iker, Adán, Tomás Mejías.

Defenders: Arbeloa, Ramos, Varane, Pepe, Coentrão, Albiol.

Midfielders: Özil, Sahin, Di María, Xabi Alonso, Callejón, Lass, Khedira.

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Higuaín, Benzema.

Earlier in the morning, Mou spoke to the press in his usual pre-game press conference.  This was where we found out that Nuri Sahin would be making his first ever call-up in Madrid, with Mou saying that he’s ready to play and that he “gives a protection” to Xabi that he hasn’t had up to now because they have similar qualities.

on playing at noon: we will have the support of the public after two away games, one in San Sebastián and the other in Lyon.  We have made changes to the eating habits, because you don’t know if you’re eating lunch or having breakfast, but the technical chat has not changed.  We usually have small chats starting three days before the game and it will be the same for this game.

on Sergio Ramos as a centerback: he’s playing very well, he’s comfortable, he’s tranquil… the team has grown with him in this position, he has grown in this position, if everything is good and we have Arbeloa and Coentrão, then tomorrow we won’t change anything.  And if I lack Fábio or Arbeloa, we have Varane, who can play if we need him to.

on winter signings: I’m not looking for a right fulback, I don’t want any players in the winter transfer market.  We know the squad we have and Ramos will be a centerback until we need him as a fullback [yay!].

on the cantera: they’re prepared to help.  Last year, in some moments los niños responded very nicely and if we run into a real difficulty, they’re able to help.  I don’t believe there is anyone who can come here and say “I’m here, this position is mine, I’m a starter” but if we don’t have fullbacks, there are some there, and if we don’t have attackers, we have some there.  We’re tranquil because it appears that our squad is made up of 50 players.

on Cristiano’s Golden Boot: the Golden Boot is an award that is not subject to criteria; it’s an objective thing.  That’s why I have to give him more than mere congratulations, I want to give him a “super congratulations” for his fantastic numbers, which he achieved in what is probably the best competition in the world.  He’s fantastic.

Speaking of the Golden Boot, on Friday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid, Cristiano received the Golden Boot award, in recognition of him being the top goalscorer in Europe last season.  This is Cristiano’s second award of this type, as he first won it with Manchester United back in 2008.  Cris was presented with the award by Eusebio and Alfredo di Stéfano, and his family, including his mother and her partner, siblings and girlfriend Irina, was on hand for the ceremony, along with Jorge Mendes.  Also present were FP, Zinedine Zidane and Miguel Pardeza.

During the Q&A part, Cris spoke often and sincerely about how the team is above all individual accolades, and how he would trade this award for a Champions League or a Liga, because “I prefer to win something at the collective level.”  Cris added that he’s not even the least bit concerned about who wins the Ballon d’Or or if he’s going to break his own goalscoring record.  He dedicated the award to “my teammates, the coaching staff, the fans, the president, the employees of the club, all of el madridismo, my family, my son, my girlfriend… all of them have been very important.”

And the quote of the day was his response to a question about how everyone has a different opinion about him: “I try not to focus on these things.  If God can’t please the entire world, how am I going to do it?”  This earned him a round of applause from the audience.

Anecdotes from the event included Cristiano going out of his way to help Di Stéfano move around, and helping Eusebio to silence his mobile phone when it started ringing.  And thoughts on his patterned shirt?

Other news: the referee from the Lyon game, Nicola Rizzoli of Italy, revealed to the Italian press that various Madrid players, including Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, asked him how Antonio Cassano was minutes before the game.  Rizzoli said, “I spoke with Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.  The first thing they asked me when they arrived in the stadium was how Cassano was… all of Madrid was worried about Cassano.”  Antonio Cassano was successfully operated on on Friday to correct a malformation in his heart and his club said “everything has gone well.”

Over on social networks, Esteban Granero is recommending books to former teammates, Iker hung out earlier this week with two old “friends,” Pepe and Marcelo (these two are never afraid to wear color, are they?) visited tattoo artist/painter Beto and Sergio posed with his “glass boot” (nice sweatpants by the way), a gift from Cristiano to each of this teammates, before wishing everyone a good weekend.  Sami also posted a picture of him with his glass boot on his Facebook, saying, “Cristiano Ronaldo is not only a fantastic football player but also an amazing person! As thanks for his award to the world scorer he made us a little gift ! Thank you so much Cris and keep it up!!”

Plus, check out Iker’s little trick, and Mesut speaking Spanish, courtesy of reader LaBlanca!  He sounds just like Karim Benzema during his second year; they have the same vocabulary!

Over in Castilla, our canteranos play Toledo today at 18h at the Alfredo di Stéfano.  MFC Álvaro Borja Morata Martín is back with the team after recovering from his injury, as is Mandi, and Nacho, who missed the last game due to suspension.  Álex is missing this one due to suspension (though hoping MFC will score a goal for him), while Denis and Zamora are injured.  If Castilla wins, they will be the provisional leaders of the division, much like the first team of Real Madrid (first, not provisional).

In an interview with Madrid’s web site, Castilla captain Dani Carvajal said the following:

on his relationship with Álex and (MFC) Morata: more than teammates, we’re a trio of friends who get together to have dinner and that is reflected on the field.  You have to have a good atmosphere in the locker room to see results.

on whether he feels closer to the first team after being called up: I work to be the best I can be, and so that Castilla achieves its objective and I’m totally focused on that.  That the first team calls me up is a reward and reflects that you’re doing things well.

on his short- and long-term dreams: in the short-term, to ascend to the Segunda with Castilla, and in the long-term, to triumph in Real Madrid.  That’s been my dream since I was small.

He looks much better as a brunette, no?

Meanwhile, Dani was absent from the Madrid Football Federation awards on Friday, but who was there was Madrid’s three other Euro U-19 winning champions (and in suits and ties), Pablo Sarabia, Álex and MFC Álvaro Borja Morata Martín, as was Atleti’s Álvaro Domínguez, champion of Europe with the U-21 team.

I am certainly not bored of your fantastic blog. I look forward to it every day or two, and you provide great stuff that I’d never find myself. But I understand if it’s wearing on you. Perhaps you could just do your post-match reports (you catch such great stuff) and include in those any other interesting tidbits that you like?

    Hi Una,

I always enjoy your blog; you have a unique perspective, and I like your sense of humour. Also, you often tell us little details that others leave out.

It must be a lot of work, though; so if you feel you’ve had enough, I for one reckon you have earned a good long rest 😉

Many thanks for all the news about Los Blancos, and good luck for the future,

I could never get bored with your blog. I haven’t found another that so nicely summarizes everything in English! This must keep you so busy at this time, with a match every few days, but I have learned so much about Real Madrid and come to love this team, just from reading your blog. I love the ICYMI posts and look forward to them, especially when I did miss it because we can’t always get the broadcasts for CL games. Our networks are more likey to show the EPL teams. I don’t know how you can make it more interesting for yourself because it is a lot of work to translate the interviews and get all these pictures and news round ups! Maybe the international break will help and I know you’ll be flooded with comments about this post.

No please Una don’t close the blog !! Personally, I don’t come here just for the news, I come because I know I’m gonna laugh at your thoughts, and because you help us see the boys behind the players. We love THEM, not just the players, and other blog don’t do that. Plus, now we have our habits with the Xabi Pose Section, or our fantasy about Sergio’s hair, or our Marcelo Sunshine ! There’s not such things as “Marcelo Sunshine” in other blog !!!! So I think I’m speaking on the behalf of everyone here : we read you for your great and complete blog, but above all for YOUR humanity, and YOUR humor, and our common sight if our beloved team.
Maybe you could express yourself more between news, so it will be less boring for you, and even more fun for us ?

No Esteban, that better doesn’t become the usual thing now that Sahin is fit (which is great). I’m starting to believe the transfer rumours. :-s

haha Iker’s “trick”. No comment on Cristiano’s shirt….

Una – please, please don’t leave us. I adore your blog. This is my log in page in fact. I read and re read what’s here and even go back and read the comments after they are up. I know that there are a lot of other Real Madrid sites out there in there; but honestly you have a completely different take from all of them. Your site is truely unique.

I take comfort in knowing that if there’s something I need to know about RM & the NT then I can come here to find it & not worry about the info being wrong. I’ve been following both of your blogs since the World Cup and it would break my heart to not have you covering the Eurocopa and next World Cup! Please don’t stop writing, I love reading your voice (?) if that makes sense and I would miss the ‘!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ too much.

True, there are many sites that provides for our real madrid news now, but frankly( no offense to the other sites) no one writes like you. For eample, I could always trust/believe in anything that came out from your writhing(ecspecially news about CR and Mou). Besides, you always give fair opinion for our players even when they are in the wrong.Enough said, I really think that it would be a great loss for us (Real Madrid’s Fan)if you are to stop blogging. However, if you do want to stop, can you please let us know? Thank you.

Also, your blog is not boring at all! I actually started out reading your other blog, con la roja, during the World Cup, but I was delighted to find out you run a blog about Real Madrid as well. In fact, I find reading news about Real Madrid more interesting on your blog than the official website. Plus, you’re quite reliable on your knowledge about the club because it seems like you’ve been a fan for such a long time. Especially with your ‘in case you missed it’ posts. Since I was never good at technical post-match analyzing, those posts are like a blessing because of how creative you are with them. It also helps that you translate interviews in Spanish, that’s what really attracted me to your blog. Your blog is just simply fantastic!

There may be plenty of other sites that post the same training pictures and whatnot, but what endears this blog to me is your commentary. Your sense of humor is wonderful and your perspective is priceless–I haven’t found any other blogs written by someone who’s been a supporter of the team so long, understands the traditions, and is locally situated. Real Madrid fans are everywhere, but I wouldn’t quite consider them madridistas.

I’m sad you are bored by the blog, but I guess I can understand. I’d be devastated if you stopped writing posts though, this is my favorite site on the entire internet, no kidding! And I kinda grew up online, so… I don’t think any of your regular readers are at all bored with this; I couldn’t imagine why!

I love the way you cover every match, before and after, and provide us with vital information – sure, some of the things one could read elsewhere, but I don’t always have time to google translate (and still not understand) tons of tweets and website articles every day to get all the information you put together and me being a ‘new’ madridista (last season was my first) I love all the insight you can give on a range of topics and club history specifically.
I guess I am guilty of taking your blog for granted, rarely giving any feedback, really, and I would like to apologize for that, because I appreciate the effort you put into it! I really do.

Awn, Una 😦 I’ll be so sad if you stop blogging. There might be other blogs posting things like you do, but you are the best! You are probably the only one with years of Real Madrid knowledge (not only about the “post 2010 WC” squad), and it makes a huge difference, at least for me. Sometimes I read awful mistakes on blogs exactly because the person knows nothing about the players before 2010 (and didn’t care about making some research) and this is something I don’t like :/ And this kind of mistakes never happen in your blog, because you know what you are talking about, you lived lot of the recent history of the club.

    Please don’t abandon us ;_;

There’s a passion that you feel for Real Madrid and it comes out in your writing. I have very few sites that I read on a daily (or almost daily) basis, but this is one.
I’m making a trip to Madrid in January and was hoping to be able to tell you just how amazing my first trip to the Bernabeu is going to be. If you are feeling bored with this blog, then there is nothing I can do about that. I will be sad to see it go. But I would wish you the best.

I understand the blog is probably a ton of work, though, and I could see how you might feel like it’s getting old. Maybe you could just cut back and do fewer posts, or shorter ones? I hope you can find some motivation to keep going, but if you cannot I want to thank you for all the time you have put in to this project so that all of us English speaking fans can be better informed about our favorite club and players. What? Are you joking! If there’s any other blog out there that is doing the thing you’re doing I am not reading them. Why should I be? I am completely satisfied with yours! I love that you actually do all this research and put so much effort in giving us good information. You don’t just gush over someone’s picture. I cant think of any other site, really, that comes even close to being such an inspiring, invaluable resource as yours.

One thing I especially appreciate about your blog are the wonderful translations. I work as a translator myself and think you’re doing a much better job than the official Real Madrid page, for example. You put so much love and care into your work and you have a good translation style. That, for me, is always one of the biggest joys about your blog.

If you think you’re not getting enough feedback and therefore think about quitting, that’s a real shame. I know I am one of those who takes a lot of your work for granted because I rarely comment 🙂 But let me say now that I love this blog and want to see it continue as long as you’re willing to do it!

If you feel like you need a change, I can understand that. It must take a lot of effort on your part. Maybe you can focus on those things that are the most fun for you and ditch those that have started feeling like a chore?

I haven’t read this post yet, because I was so shocked by the first passage!

Nooo~o! Una! Please don’t stop this gorgeous blog! It’s my favourite Real Madrid blog! I check it not only once, but like a dozen times daily! (Yes, I’ve signed up for he newsletter for new posts, too, but that doesn’t stop me X’D)

Yes, there may be other Madrid blogs out there, but yours is the one I most appreciate ❤
You have the right mixture of news for me! It's all there, your "ICYMI", "all set for"-Posts, the news, posts/news from castilla etc.

And I love that you not only focus on the sports news, but also on all the wonderfull other moments before the game, in the tunnel, the boys attending other events etc.

And your wonderful translations! That's also one of the main parts I follow your blog. It's really not so easy to stay tuned with all the news about the boys when you don't speak spanisch and don't live in Spain. Maybe it's easy to get much information on for example Cris, because he is one of the most popular, but you treat all our boys equally and that's great! I often read news on the not so popular players (which I love as any other on the team!) here, I never saw on other sites! And especially Castilla-news is very hard to find!

But the most importand part is:
When I read your posts here I feel that you love the club and our boys as much as I do! And that's just wonderful! ❤

I really love it when you comment on the statements our boys or the club makes, because almost evertime I agree with you and that makes me love your blog even more!

Please never, never close this blog!

    Kisses, your faithful reader Daniela

una, if you ever decide you don’t want to do this any more, i’ll be devastated, but i’ll (sadly, and with regret!) support you. it’s a LOT of work and often a thankless job. i hope you know we do appreciate you and this blog has brought so much joy to so many madridistas around the world, but it’s got to be exhausting for you and when it starts feeling like work and not fun, i can see why you’d feel bored and fed up by it. i definitely don’t take your work for granted, and i do hope you continue, but i totally understand if you don’t. *hugs*

one thing, though … i think you’re wrong when you say there are other blogs out there that do the same thing. there aren’t! sure, there are blogs that cover the matches from a technical point of view, and kickette or dirty tackle are great for the odd post about various members of the team, but i’ve yet to come across any blog, anywhere on the internet, that covers the matches plus the non-footie stuff in the way that you do. for non-spanish speakers (i’m trying! i’m learning! but i’ll never be fluent!), this blog is a blessing. who else is going to critique iker’s clothing, or point out how boss xabi is, or point videos of sergio dancing in the dressing room? and to do it with the humour you do, with the attention to detail that you do … there’s really nowhere like it online, anywhere.

i personally have no suggestions to change or improve things, because i’m happy with everything the way it is, but if you’re feeling bored or overwhelmed, perhaps you could reduce the posting frequency to a level that gives you more of a break? maybe 1 or 2x a week or whatever you’re comfortable with? or do more news round-ups and less match reports, if they’re less work (though i will miss your ICYMIs very much if you choose to discontinue them!)? whatever works for YOU is what’s most important; i’ll just be grateful for whatever time and effort you give your readers.

a “young” hug to you, as iker would say! :p

Oh no, I just love your blog and I read it every day. Your blog is always so funny and well written and it makes me love RM and the players even more if that’s possible. It always makes me smile. I have to say that I would miss your blog sooo much if you stopped it! But the decision is yours I’m sure that the blog takes much of your time and everything. Maybe you should keep a break and decide after that? But anyways thank you for writing this awesome blog for so long 🙂

I don’t comment often but I’m a regular reader and your blog is amazing and unique because you provide intricate details about the team that I have yet to see in other blogs. I’d request you not to abandon it completely. Of course it’s completely up to you whether you want to continue it or not and if it interferes with your daily life then you won’t be able to help it. But I love this blog and I’d hate to see it discontinued as I’m sure would many others. Maybe if it’s a lot of hassle you can make more sporadic posts but please don’t abandon this extremely interesting blog for your loyal and international readers.

You have a good sense of humor and the up-to-date information that is of interest to all of us who follow you. Although I discovered your site just recently, I admire your work and commitment and hope you reconsider your decision to stop the blog. If you don’t mind the suggestion, you can make this a monthly blog and blog about that highlights of the team in that period. I’m sure it will take less time out of your schedule and you can focus of stories that are more relevant to you.

In any case, thanks for all your efforts. I truly appreciate them and I hope this is not the end to a site that I consider photojournalism about a team we all love.

Most important points first: our canteranos clean up so nicely, don’t they? The suits are a good look. I’ve been watching Castilla matches more frequently these days (because it’s not like I have work to do or anything!), and MFC AFI is shaping up to be quite the Boss Ginger Midfield General. Carva’s been pretty boss, too.

Very glad to know that I wasn’t the only one to um. Notice Sergio’s sweatpants. (In my defense, they are preferable to looking at the rest of his outfit…)

Granero amuses me, always. Whether he’s tweeting lines of Lorca, or calling Bukowski “fun”… I love every second of it. And I would really hate to lose him to Arsenal, so I’m going to stick my fingers in my ears and ignore the rumor mill, while clutching my Granero 11 jersey. LALALALA CAN’T HEAR YOU. (Please don’t send Esteban away pleaaaseeee tito Florennn! Pretty please with a cherry on top!)

Iker’s trick with the card… “¿Confías?” “Poco, pero venga…” That would be my reaction, too. Seriously, how hard do you have to throw a card to make it stick in a carrot?!!?! Where did he even learn this truquito?!

Özil’s Spanish is too cute.TOO CUTE. “Soy muy feliz con equipo ganar este partido!” I want to pinch his cheeks and make him flashcards.

I actually liked Cris’s shirt when I thought the white spots were just lunares, but now that I see they’re something else (a logo? I can’t really tell), I’m not so sure. From a distance, it’s not too bad, though. Though perhaps he should save it for the next performance of the Cuadro Flamenco Real Madrid…

    ———

In more serious/practical things… I’m of two minds about the blog. It’s an absolutely fantastic resource for RM fans who don’t speak Spanish and are interested in more things than “just the football”, so I would be very sad to see it go… but at the same time, I know that it must be an absolutely massive timesuck to make big posts like this regularly, and a bit dispiriting to put in loads of effort for waning levels of feedback. The cute moments and pictures tend to make the rounds on Tumblr (though I have a sneaking suspicion or three that at least *some* of those gifs are nicked from your blog, just saying!), and news about injuries and the like does tend to be fairly well-reported in the sporting press. The one thing that other forms of internet media haven’t taken on so far (and here I include Tumblr, LiveJournal, and even sites like Kickette) is translating interviews. Which is of course the most time-sucking thing you do, I’m sure. Anyone with internet and a little bit of know-how can dowload a match and make screencaps and gifs, but it takes years of language learning to be able to make sense of even short interviews. The absolutely Herculean effort of transcribing those Real… interviews, for example, when even the official RM site can’t be arsed to do it (and certainly doesn’t do HALF as good a job! seriously they need a new in-house translator!) – that is really the sort of content that people can’t get elsewhere at this point, and maybe if you posted less frequently, and saved your energy for these “bigger” things and/or recruited some helpers, that would let you reclaim some free time and still retain reader interest… But I don’t know, really. It’s a tough call, but it’s one for you to make, and even if you do decide to call it quits, this has been a beautiful run and will always be one of my favorite corners of the internet, for so many reasons. ❤ ❤ ❤

    ———

To end on a happy note: ¡Madrid líderes! ¡Castilla líderes! Today has gone well!

When we watch the matches on TV at home we often wonder what Una is thinking about it – we can predict which bits you will be commenting on later! (Especially Xabi being very boss, or Sergio showing off his thigh…)

So we hope you will continue – but want to say lots of big “thankyou”s in any case for all your hard work and dedication. It is very much appreciated. I don’t think anyone else’s blog is anywhere near as good as yours.

    Hello Una!
I wish I could convince you to stay, but I do understand that all good things come to an end.
If you decide to not continue with Following Real Madrid, we (your fans) would totally understand. Thank you for all the hard work and time you’ve put in throughout the years, I cannot describe how much we appreciate it.

I do have a suggestion for you though – maybe create a Twitter account where we could follow some of your anecdotes about Real Madrid or even thoughts about games as they happen? It would be more of a non committal way to stay in touch and still keep this alive – and not to mention, it would involve a lot less effort and time on your part.

I was also wondering if closing Following also meant closing Con La Roja?

    Best wishes Una.

i’ve been a reader for quite some time now and you’re the best real madrid blogger out there. you know so much about football but at the same time you appreciate all the cute things our players do. your blog is NOT at all boring. it’s really refreshing and you’re the original madridista who started this whole thing. idk about other but i’ll always read your blog cause i like hearing what you have to say.

thank you for creating this blog because for people like me (who live as far away from madrid as possible), you allow us to feel closer to the team. you’re great and i think the blog is as perfect as it is. 🙂

“You know what… I’m starting to get a little bored by the blog, and I’m sensing that some of you are too. After all, there are now lots of other sites that do the same things I do.”

😦 I am not at all bored by any of your posts. Even if I don’t comment often, I am constantly checking this blog for new articles. Some of the many things that I really love about this blog are 1) the wealth of information about Madrid and the guys that I can’t find anywhere else, 2) your sense of humor, 3) knowing that what you write about is reliable and objective. I have learned so much about the teams as players and coaches from this blog. Living in the US and not speaking Spanish, I don’t get this information anywhere else. I can frequent the English version of Madrid’s website but as I’ve learned from the “Real…” interviews, the English version leaves out much of the article. Also there are some articles on the Spanish version that aren’t on the English version.

If I had any suggestions, I would leave them but I honestly can’t think of anything I would change. I know this must be a lot of work for you to keep this blog updated and I would totally understand if you decided not to continue with it, but the selfish side of me hopes you do continue it.

I have read articles recently about Arsenal & Malaga targeting Esteban. I will try to take that with a grain of salt as I’m not sure how reliable the sites that post these rumors are. If it is true however, It makes me sad to think that he was brought back to Madrid, which I’m sure got his hopes up thinking he’d play, only to sit the bench. Meanwhile the new signings are getting more playing time than he is. 😦 I can understand why he would want to go to these teams so that he can get playing time tho.

I’m looking forward to the game and even though it will be shown at 5 a.m. here, I will be up to watch it. 😮

There are many other things to comment on but I will stop here.

Una, for my part I really enjoy your blog because of your perspective. As a new watcher and non-Spaniard you add a cultural and historical perspective both in relation to overall team history but also present decisions of the team. Your viewpoint is consistently rational (while still coming across as a lot of fun) and your blog is by far the most comprehensive of anything I’ve seen. In fact, I think a lot of those other sites take a lot from you.

As a non-Spanish-speaker your translations of news from source materials is consistently helpful and always placed within great context that’s lacking in many other sites I’ve seen. I don’t comment as often as I should, but as a reader I’m never bored with the blog. That being said, I can’t imagine the time and devotion it takes to put forth such a comprehensive blog so I can understand if it needs to end, but whatever you decide to do with it, I appreciate everything up until that point! Your love for the team is so clear and magnetic and I’ve learned a lot from you.

As for Osasuna, it will be really interesting to see if Sahin gets any time since I got to see him this summer in the US (but obviously not playing). It does sadden me that it seems my favorite Pirata is getting a bit of the Pedro Leon treatment this year from Jose. I don’t know what changed as it was happening even before Altintop and Sahin were fit. I was definitely holding out for Xabi 2.0. :/

I love Cristiano’s quote on god. It’s just so perfect. And I’m still impressed with Iker’s card trick.

And I wondered if you know who is taking those pictures for Madrid’s facebook? I wonder what Iker’s going to say when he wakes up…

Oh and I super hope that this line “it’s been a good run and thank you for reading” doesn’t mean you’ll stop writing on this blog soon. Noooo, please.

And now that Clasico’s nearing, I feel like drama will come soon enough for this blog. Hahahaha.

But back to this post. It’s so sweet Cris got presents for his teammates!!! How selfish and arrogant is he? Hahaha. And I super hope Granero gets more playing time soon. And it’s good that we’re not looking for any player during the winter market. I want no drama during that time.

What was that? I hope you don’t actually consider quitting/ slowing down with the great work you do. I don’t post in comments regularly, or ever for that matter. However, I am waiting (sometimes literary) for all the inside team gossips and lots and lots of team pictures.

You right, there are plenty RM sites that talks about football, strategies and other football related stuff, yet your blog provides completely different perspective and serves different purpose in bonding those under the RM colours.

Please tell me it was only Saturday blues talking. And with Real victory over Osasuna in couple of hours your mood will hopefully enormously improve.

Keep up a good work. Big fan

Sorry, Una, I can’t quite get you. Are you implying that you may stop updating this blog? Of course this is gonna get lots of people down! So please don’t stop this!
We’re now used to check this website up for the ALL SET posts and ICYMI ones. This blog is like a news collection or Real Madrid dictionary! I can’t imagine how we can keep informed about what’s going on with these boys.
Yep I agree that things are getting a little less fresh when I follow your blog for long time, but only because that is their life. The routine, the training, the games. They’re all regular. Only sometimes there would be extra activities, which are fun and what we’re always looking forward to. Maybe now some will feel nothing special in this blog. Whereas, without this blog, it’ll certainly be weird and abnormal. I believe none of the readers wanna feel that way.
Thanks for all your dedication for this blog. And if this doesn’t take annoying large part of time or life of you, please keep it going on. Sincerely, Una you’re like our guide, to know much about this team and also every spark of every Madridista. I don’t know what to suggest yet. But when I come up with anything, I’ll surely tell you. I think that is the major difference between you and other RM-centered blogs that I have read. The way you write is, to me, special and makes a huge difference. You attitude in the posts is more fun and fangirly (in a good way and not too much) than in others, and that is a huge plus to me, since I’m that way myself also.

Una, I liked Real Madrid before but finding your blog made me love them even more. What you do shows a side of the boys that you don’t really find elsewhere and the way you write, people can really tell that you really love this team and these boys, and your adoration is contagious.
I found this blog over year ago and I’ve come to trust you and your translations. It makes it so much easier for an American like me who can’t speak Spanish understand the team a little bit more. And I love your post match summaries, I read them whether or not I missed the game (although due to my schedule lately I have been missing them more than I’d like).
I don’t really go anywhere else for news on the boys and while I understand that obviously being a RM fan you have some bias, but I like how you try to remain objective at times when its needed.
I realize that you’ve been running this for a long time now and it probably seems like its getting redundant and its enough work to be considered a job. I also realize that people don’t appreciate your effort as much as they should.

Just know that some of us appreciate everything you’ve done. If you do decide to stop, I will also understand but I will miss it. I just want to thank you for all the had work you’ve done and thank you for making me love this team even more than I did before.

I’ve delayed writing for a couple of days because I wanted to think very carefully about this blog and the things I love about it before responding.

My favourite posts are probably ICYMI – because it’s fun “rewatching” the match like that and because you’re witty and notice the things that matter. Still, it’s your time that goes into those posts and I’ve always felt people don’t understand how long it takes you to put those posts together (and those posts must take an especially long time. With all the gifs and beautiful things you put in).

But it is true that one CAN review the game elsewhere (though you are the best – and I never consider going elsewhere).

For that reason, I feel the most important posts you do (and the ones you might consider still doing) are the ones that examine the media, and personalities in Spain (and outside) and what they are saying about Madrid.

For example: when Manolo Sanchis says something lovely in an interview, I never come across it anywhere else. You are very up-to-date on the media (the Spanish media especially) and what they are saying and what others are saying. It provides a complete idea to me (and others too, of course) of what Madrid means to people in Spain – and outside too.

That part of the blog isn’t just better than everyone else’s – its completely unique. Since discovering your blog, I find that news about the club no longer comes as a surprise because you are so good at presenting plausible gossip.

Few real news tidbits reach my part of the world and I miss more games than games watched because of the time difference. I love what you do and even if I don’t comment every time I pass by here, I am very grateful.

Although I am not an ‘active’ follower, I am a follower of this blog nonetheless and appreciate your efforts. I frequent at least ten different web addresses for RM news/commentary on a weekly basis (including the club’s official page, news daily’s, etc.). Your blog is certainly top 5 in my opinion. So don’t feel discouraged by the lack of ‘activity’ on your blog, as I’m sure I’m only one of many who enjoy your work ‘quietly’, but in the end do what’s best for you and what makes you happy.

P.S. As I’m sure you know the vast majority of football fans are male, so you may want to rethink the amount of ‘Oogling’ from the female perspective 😉

Nooooooooooooooo! I am back after a while and I can properly update myself but an update that UnaMadridista is bored with the blog is not exactly what I had in mind when I was waiting to have time to finally read everything from last weeks!

Dear Una -it is your blog so you decide whatever is best for you, whatever fits you the most and whatever is most satisfying to you. So I cannot really demand anything from you as it is your decision about what you’re doing with the blog.

Hovewer, this is the best RM blog there is, I do not even bother to check the RM related news anywhere else so I will really regret if this blog ends! You are doing a wonderful job, describing/translating/finding all the news and adding your commentary to it, so thanks for all your effort, it is really appreciated!

I understand that you might be tired as the blog entries are very detailed (what I really appreciate) and I assume preparing them is very time-consuming. Maybe you could try writing less often or make less detailed posts, concentrating on some chosen topics that you would find interesting at the certain time, like I do not really know;-) – for example

    – Iker’s profile of the week
    – Marcelo’s smile of the month
    – Xabi’s boss pose of the match

In that case you would not feel obliged to cover every news there is, every match etc. Just leaving it (for as long as you feel) like a place for presenting your thoughts RM related rather than the source of all the news.

Of course, I really appreciate that I can find all the information about the club here, but now I think I am more attached to your style of writing and commenting things rather than the coverage of everything. So really – I hope I expressed myself clear – this blog has the value because of your style first and foremost, not just because it presents very detailed information all the time (what is also nice, but it is not the only one reason why this blog is so loved!). So whatever you choose to do (even writing once a week;-), I will be glad to come here and read it!

Maybe you just need a short break or a little change – just follow what you want to do, you owe us nothing. If anything, the readers owe you 100000 pictures of Iker’s profile as a reward for all your efforts;-)

I will respect your every decision, but I hope you will continue to write.

    Take care!!!!

    A.

Dear Una, it makes me sad that you consider closing this blog. It’s my best source of everything there is to know about Madrid. I know that there may be similar sites, but beside the news I’m also very interested in your opinion – in fashion and other things alike;) I also like it when you explain Spanish customs or traditions and when you randomly put Spanish words in English text;) I’ll never see men in thorn/cuffed jeans in the same light again, because of you. I’ve grown attached not only to both your blogs but also to you, so I’ll miss your posts if you decide to close them. But I wouldn’t like you to force yourself to anything, so if you really don’t want to continue it’s okay, I’m very grateful for all the posts you wrote. As for suggestions the only one that comes to me is that maybe you can do a post only when you really feel like it and not every day? It would be less drastic;) It’s up to you, I can only say a huge THANK YOU for everything and wish you all the best, you’re great!

Una, I just want to say thank you for all of the work you put into this blog. I understand that you don’t have to do any of this, and I am so grateful for this source of news. I rely on your blog for all the information on Real Madrid because your opinions, sense of humor, and feelings about the players are so similar to my own. The way you try not to put down the other team, whether we win or lose, is admirable, and i really enjoy reading all your posts. Of course, I will completely understand if you stop, but I just wanted to express how I feel about this blog.
Once again, thank you so much for everything you do.

We’re not bored of this blog! We love it! I might not post on here much but that’s just because I love reading the posts and everyone else’s comments so much. I love all the posts that you make. I understand why you may want to stop, it must take so much of your time and you can tell how much hard work you put into it.

I hope you don’t stop this blog, it’s where I go for all things RM! I’d be lost without it! But if you do decide not to do it anymore, I’d like to thank you for all the effort. It’s fantastic!

Please don’t go!! I admit I don’t check the blog as religiously as I once did but I still check it frequently. I love your blog Una, it is where I go to get Real Madrid news beyond the statistical and analytical that is written here in the United States. I haven’t found another blog that is like yours. You are not crazy fan girl like most Real Madrid blogs I have come across. You are reporting what is going on around the club, the players, former players, and canteranos with some nice eye candy and fashion critiques inbetween.

I also love your witty and sarcastic writing. I often find myself laughing at what you are writing because it is funny or very true, sometimes both! Please don’t stop blogging because even though you say that there are a lot of blogs doing the same thing you are, I have not found them and the ones I have found come no where near the greatness of yours.

I understand you tiredness of the blog, it happens to all bloggers, but my selfish plea is for you not to go. However, if you choose to, I wish you the best in the future. Us Una Madridista followers will be saddened but will understand.

Thank you for the last year and a half I’ve been following your Una Madridista blog.

NO OTHER RM BLOG COMPARES. Please don’t stop what you’re doing because no one else can do it as well as you. There are so many people (including myself) who deeply appreciate your work.

Noooooo, I left for week to see this!! 😦
Una I will say it, I didn’t see a blog as good as yours with the sarcastic hilarious comments, icymi detials, incrediable detials, alonso, iker, marcelo sections..etc! The day we get bored from your blog, is the day we get bored with Real Madrid and it will never happen.

However, I understand how hectic writing this blog is for you because you do get alot of stuff and summarize pretty much everything related to this club from socail to football news, if you can’t do it, we understand, we apprecaite everything you did, you spoiled us to be honest.
It has been a great place for madridista to come and share their ideas, it has been an amazing run, I hope you reconsider, I wont be lieing because your blog is a part of my daily life.

    Anyway, Hala Madrid, Gracias Una!

I don’t check in much here anymore since I started my timesuck job, but I just wanted to say !Animo Madridista! and offer some sympathy for how much time all these posts must take you. I certainly could not keep up the level of dedication re content-production that you have for the last couple of years.

Would it help with the impending burnout to scale back a little in terms of the update frequency and length? Maybe if it feels like a little less of a chore, you’ll enjoy it more? We your readers will be very happy to enjoy whatever you wish to share, of course, whatever it may be. 🙂
