it’s that time of the year again…

December 19, 2011

… where we get “triplete” of the Christmas lunch, the hospital visit and the taping of the Christmas message!  On Sunday afternoon, after the football team’s practice and the basketball team’s 83-61 win over Assignia Manresa, the club held their annual Christmas lunch for the two teams, staff and directors at the Bernabéu.  During the lunch, Alfredo di Stéfano amused Iker, and Xabi Alonso amused himself.

As the players arrive,d the parking area of the Bernabéu became a runway, complete with catwalk and photographers (in the form of fans).  I can’t believe anyone would want to dress like Cristiano; I don’t think the white sneakers look good at all (or the big Gucci belt)!  Meanwhile, Xabi was dressed just like that little boy in Sevilla, no?  Most of the players went for casual for the lunch, wearing jeans, though they paired them with everything from t-shirts to sweaters to leather jackets, and in Sergio’s case, a vest.

The members of the two teams mixed and chatted before the lunch began (despite what these pictures show).  I wonder what language Cris was speaking in the photo on the right.  Probably English.

Then it was onto the tables.  The presidential table was made up of FP, Alfredo di Stéfano, Emiliano Rodríguez (the equivalent of Di Stéfano for the basketball team; he’s a former player and honorary president of the ex-players’ association), FP’s three VPs, José Mourinho, Pablo Laso (coach of the basketball team) and team captains Iker Casillas and Felipe Reyes.

The rest of the tables were divided like this (once again, it was roughly based on nationality/common language spoken):

Table 2: Álvaro Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos, Raúl Albiol, Sergio Llull, Jorge Sanz and Sergio Rodríguez.

Table 3: Marcelo, Pepe, Fábio Coentrão, Cristiano, Rafa Varane, Karim Benzema, Lass, Mirza Begic and Nikola Mirotic.

Table 4: Ricardo Carvalho, Kaká, Mesut Özil, Sami Khedira, Hamit Alintop, Nuri Sahin, Kyle Singler, Jaycee Carroll and Martynas Pocius.

Table 5: Gonzalo Higuaín, José Callejón, Antonio Adán, Esteban Granero, Dani Díez, Carlos Súarez, Ante Tomic and Novica Velickovic.

Check out how Pipita is looking at José!  And Dani and Esteban have the same, overgrown hair.  How fitting that they sat next to each other.

Other notes: the assistant coaches sat together at another table.  Ángel di María had permission from the club to miss the lunch and hospital visit.  Everyone at the lunch went home with a gift, a stereo system for the iPod/iPhone, plus the Iker Casillas book.

Speaking of Iker, he posted these photos on his Facebook, saying that we’re not allowed to question Benz’ style.  So, can we question Iker’s?  I don’t like the turtleneck at all!  Especially not with that jacket.  It makes him look like a priest, minus the collar.  And I have to say, Alfredo looks quite adorable here, it’s good to know that Iker can also be reduced into a fanboy.

The teams also found time to record the traditional Christmas greeting, though we will have to wait a couple more days before we get to see the results, although the making of video is always better than the actual message.  It will be hard to top that Cris/Kaká laughing one from the 2009-10 season, as well as Raúl Albiol’s ni-ni-ni-ni from that same year (that is one of the best videos ever).  During the lunch, the boys got some practice in.  Hamit Altintop’s attempt made everyone burst out laughing.

And then it was on to the taping!

Following that, the players divided up and went to 11 hospitals and clinics around Madrid, to visit with sick children and act as the Three Kings.  The press attention was centered on the Sanitas La Moraleja, as that was where Iker, Cris, Mou, Karanka and Felipe Reyes went.  This year, however, Cris decided not to stand next to Felipe, so that he wouldn’t look so short.

It didn’t work, Felipe makes everyone look short.  As Cris headed to his car after the hospital visit, a father shoved his kid into Cris’ arms for a hug and kiss.  Though a bit surprised, Cris gave the kid a big smile.  I imagine that’s how he looks at Cristiano Jr.!  I love papá Cristiano!

Here is where everyone else went.

Meanwhile, the twins and Sergio Llull went to the Hospital San Rafael, where they handed out presents, signed autographs and looked adorable.

Later that evening, Gonzalo Higuaín and Ángel di María flew out of Barajas for Buenos Aires, as their vacation starts now.  Marcelo and Kaká will also get a few more days of vacation, as Mou stated before, as will Cris and Iker, who have accumulated the most minutes and will likely not be called up for the Copa del Rey vuelta game against Ponfe.

Just look at those two’s jeans… Complete horror show!

I’ll happily give up my free time to smarten up Iker, he badly needs a Xabi intervention.

Am I the only one who thinks a turtleneck suits him?

Can’t wait for the making of video 😀

I can’t wait for the Christmas video!
But Una, why don’t you like Iker’s turtleneck? it’s so much better than his usual plaid stuff. Also, did the abandon his beloved purse? Long time I don’t see it. I would like to send a hug to whoever stole/hide it.

Everyone’s clothes in this luncheon are horrid. Except for Xabi, but he always looks fabulous. And Pepe, but that’s because it looks like he’s wearing the team’s gray shirt!

Someone please tell Mesut he’s looking like a drunken old aunt.

I demand to know what Sergio uses in his hair, because it’s looking more amazing each day. I’m jealous, I want my hair to look this great!

Xabi and the wagging finger, lol. As for the outfits, Iker looked really cold in his turtle neck, Benz with his white jacket is a big NO, and shame on those wearing T-shirts. Ozil looked cute, so did Kaka and of course Xabi:)

I actually love Iker & Cris’s questionable fashion choices… it makes them more human, more like regular men that need MY….err, I mean, need a woman’s help in getting properly “dressed” , if you will… 😉

It’s great to see the celebrations and visits to the hospitals, very heartwarming. Cris is so cute as Papa, I agree.

Again a fantastic post, Una! That’s all I can say because when my adored Xabi starts acting silly & sassy I can no longer function…I just sort of stare & drool……

Iker and Xabi for the first pic…ADORABLE!

    Laughing Iker is so adorable!

And I loved how Cristiano’s arms naturally just opened up when he saw that the little boy was being lifted towards him. Awwww. And the little boy got to plan a big wet kiss on Cris’s cheek. Too cute!

I can’t wait for the Christmas message video and, more importantly, the outtake reel!

  12. December 20, 2011 02:34

Can’t wait for the video! These guys are just too cute together.

I love how Kaka, Coentrao & Granero (I think that’s him?) are the only three in that pic that actually seem interested in what Cris is saying. And how cute that Coentrao has his arm drapped over Granero(?).

The way Pipita is looking so intently at Jose is adorable. What a bromance!

It’s good to see Hamit & Nuri fitting into the team so well. We have such a great group of guys on the team.

Ahh I was so extremely excited for this Christmas dinner, only to go on the website and find hardly enough pics and videos. But then I realized that I still had Una!
    I love everythinngggg!

BUT, is anyone else totally bummed that the the bromance between Cris and Kaka has seemingly diminished? They don’t even sit next to each other anymore? 😦
That previous Christmas vid between the two of them is the best thing everrr!
And don’t get me wrong, I love the two Rickys, but Criska is just something else…Sigh…

    Happy Holiday everyone! Hala Madrid!

    Madrid christmases are the best!

I actually have to say Iker looks better than I expected, at least no plaid!

Benz’s shiny ill-fighting shirt needs to go

Whoever said Ozil looks like a drunk aunt – said it best!

Overall, best dressed table seems to be Pipita, Pirata, and Callejon’s table. The basketball players all also look suitably / well dressed.

Also, I cannot believe Pirata has a hair twin! Gah… there *must* be something in the Madrid shower water.

I hope the kids in hospitals were able to have some joy in their difficult situation, the older I get the more I want to cry seeing kids in hospital. At lest I hope they enjoyed the visits of the players, especially because most of them seem to be great with kids.

On a lighter note – Xabi IS perfect. He should teach every other member of this club a “Xabi Alonso’s Course of Style Vol.1”. He should also be in an Old Spice’s ad – look at me, now look at your man;-)))

Iker as a fanboy – so cute, but the turtleneck makes him look 20 years older. I love Serhio’s hair, but I am shocked that Alvaro Arbeloa was not in a suit. Mesut must have borrowed a scarf from Pepe’s collection! Oh guys.

“It didn’t work, Felipe makes everyone look short. ”

…Wait until we can find photos of Xabi, Ramos and Tomic group, also of Carvalho, Coentrao and Begic. Felipe is ‘just’ 2.03 meters but Tomic and Begic are 2.17 and 2.16 respectively…

Poor, poor Xabi, Ramos, Carvalho and Coentrao. xD

that little video of ronaldo with the kid just melted my heart. his smile is genuine and sincere and lasting, even when he’s put the kid down and is walking away. he’s come a LONG way since he played in england.

as i happen to think iker looks terrific in his turtleneck, i’ll save my fashion criticism for someone else this time: arbeloa! shame on you for being so casual and scruffy! he’s usually a bit better put-together for these sorts of things, he looks far too casual here. maybe xabi was wagging his finger at him, disapproving of his t-shirt and jeans.

(and bwahahahaha, i just went back up to the photo and ozi DOES look like a drunken old aunt! i love that comment!)

cannot wait for the video, i plan to analyse every frame!

What I would give to have Xabi wagging his finger at me like that… :)) I love Iker’s smile in the first GIF and in his photo with di Stefano. The first thing I thought of was he looked very fanboy-like!

Great work and so beautiful to see the boys take time out to spend quality time with others. Thanks for the memories and hopefully we see more style sense in the new year LOL
