ICYMI – the moments edition (II)

January 12, 2012

In case you missed it – Málaga vs. Real Madrid [2012-01-10, Copa del Rey round of 16 vuelta, 0-1].

Here are the rest of the moments (and mouments) from Tuesday’s game, the ones that took place prior to and after the game.

The French moments: Karim, Lass and Rafa hung out together prior to the game, with Lass showing that he has very good hearing, since he could apparently hear Karim’s music through his hood.  And Karim was being very adorable before the game.  I love the wave and wink he sent to one fan who kept yelling his name (it was a girl).

The relaxed moments: in the morning, the team had a light training session, which consisted mostly of stretching.  On the way there, Antonio and Calleti looked relaxed, while Kaká’s focus was on his phone.  I love José’s dimple!

Meanwhile, Cristiano’s watch caught Xabi’s eye, and he had to get a closer look.  Cris appeared to be telling Xabi that the watch is nothing special (i.e. it cost less than €10,000 or something like that).  Antonio Adán played the role of photographer, taking this photo of three of the four musketeers.  I like how the length of their pants increases as you go to the left.

Antonio’s a good photographer!  Hopefully, he told them that he wouldn’t take a picture if they put their thumbs up, and this was the result.  Plus, Álvaro is looking a lot like his cousin Gonzalo right here, no?  And Xabi’s tongue!  Is he trying to make all of us faint?  Also notice that Xabi and Álvaro are listening to something together!

The pre-game moument: José Mourinho noticed that the seats on the bench were wet, so he asked for a towel.  He then spent a few seconds wiping several of the seats, the ones for him and Aitor.  However, he told Chendo to wipe his own.  Jajaja!

The creativity moments: a sampling of some of the signs at La Rosaleda.  This one says, “Özil, give me your shirt and I’ll flash you a boob.”

And this one says, “Pepe, I’ll exchange my girlfriend for your shirt,” with an arrow pointing to the unfortunate girl.  Pepe saw the sign, and handed over his training sweatshirt, but wisely decided not to take the guy up on his offer.

The what is it moments: Karim brought along a bottle of something to the bench, and Marcelo didn’t know what it was, so he decided to smell it.  However, he still couldn’t figure out what it was.  Whatever it is, apparently it has the ability to make Karim fly, according to Marcelo and José Callejón.  Later on, Mesut would also eye the bottle when Karim decided to take a sip.

The fraternity moments, part I: in the tunnel, we had Sergio greeting his namesake, Sergio Sánchez, Xabi giving a high five to his fellow Basque, Nacho Monreal, and Lass saying hello to his compatriot, Jeremy Toulalan.  Then, during the pre-game handshakes, the two Sergios gave each other a hug, while Santi Cazorla got hugs from his national team teammates, and Gonzalo hugged and kissed his fellow Argentine (and River Plate product) Martín Demichelis.  And of course, Ruud van Nistelrooy got lots of hugs from his former teammates!  I love these types of moments!

The we’re so good looking it hurts moment: Kaká is just only one of the guapísimo players we have on this team, no?

Warning to the men reading this post: feel free to skip over the next two moments.  I’m not sure you’ll enjoy them as much as us girls.

The I know you’ll enjoy these moments: which is why I decided to include them.

The I made this extra big to capture all the details moment: and you can see why – literally – so I won’t write anything else.  But you can leave me a comment telling me how long you spent staring at this gif, if you want.

Okay men, you can return now.

The fraternity moments, part II: after the game, several of our players hugged our former coach (awww), while Sergio hugged Santi.  They walked off the field arm in arm.  Meanwhile, Iker tried to console Willy Caballero.  Iker said after the game, “today our goal came from a most unjust manner.  Caballero had a great game and that’s the thankless part of this position, that an unfortunate play tarnishes a good qualifying round.”

Iker also said that the team was focused on the Liga, the next game against Mallorca and defending their lead, instead of the hypothetical Copa del Rey match-up against Barcelona.  Apparently, he and Mou both kept an eye on the score of the Mallorca-Real Sociedad game which was taking place as the team was warming up in La Rosaleda.  Mallorca won that one 6-1, so the team is right in putting their focus on their next opponent in the Liga.

The Xabi Alonso posing moments.

Those eyelashes!

And I love this look of concentration!  It’s fierce.  Meanwhile, Óscar Ribot is looking a lot like Francesc Satorra in this moment.

The bonus moment: Jan. 11, 2012 was the five-year anniversary of Gonzalo Higuaín’s debut with Madrid, which came on Jan. 11, 2007 in the Copa del Rey against Betis.  And like Marcelo, whose anniversary was just a few days earlier, he’s gone on to become one of the four captains of this team.  Check out the video Madrid prepared for this occasion.  It’s worth viewing just to see baby Higuaín saying his dream is to play for Real Madrid, and for the unfortunate hair, including a curly mullet the day of his presentation, that he sported during his first few years with the club.

Thankyou for the Xabi gif- THE xabi gif I should say! I tried to make one myself but couldn’t get him in all his glorious detail the way you did 😉
And do you suppose Karim is drinking Red Bull? Do they have those commercials in Spain- “It gives you wings”?
    Xoxo for another great round-up…

Can I be a river plate product to get some love from Pipa *sigh* Martin wasn’t that kind to Pipita too in the game!
I kind wished I only saw these posts instead of the game!! I really do, only in Real Madrid a game that boring will generate this amount of gifs, HOT poses ( speaking of Xabi), I honestly stared on Iker more, ( but, I am an iket’s girl) 😛

As foe benz, isn’t possible for the players to get alcohol to the bench :p!!

Marcelo is backet of rainbow, sunshine and cutness.

I agree about Lass. There’s a huge improvement even from the first couple games that he played this season. I’m glad to see it and that Mou saw his potential.

  7. January 12, 2012 11:31

Em.. I think I spent a minute there. On each gif. It may be more but Xabi kinda mesmerized me so I lost track of time.

Wonderful post as usual – especially the “for the ladies’ eyes only” parts 🙂 I have not had much time to comment lately, but am so glad to see you decided to keep this blog going. Its much appreciated! I really wish Granero were getting some playing time though – am very grateful as a madridista for all the talent we have as our disposal, but I hate to see him wasted like this.

I wasn’t able to wake up to watch this so thank you very much for this two-part ICYMI. You spoil us Una!

Malaga has been playing very well and I’m so glad the team was able to pass the test. I can almost smell another El Clasico. I’m more than hopeful for this team to lift that trophy once more.

    Thanks Una!

Benzi winked and waved at a girl screaming his name? I now have a plan haha.

Awwww it’s nice to see the twitter photos getting taken for once!

Hahahaha that flying motion with their hand is hilarious to me for some reason! And now we know where Benzi’s brilliance comes from, his bottle of vodka 😛

I love when there’s cross-team love! Especially all the love for Ruud and Santi!

“The we’re so good looking it hurts moment” SO ACCURATE! I can stare at nothing but Kaká for the rest of my life and have a very happy life.

Thank you for making the Xabi gif extra big! Coincidentally, a description not only of the gif but for…well…yeah.

Every time I think Xabi reaches the peak of perfection, he does something like that.

And last but not least, congrats to Pipita! I hope he has many more anniversaries to celebrate with us!

PS : I’m sorry but on the photo taken by Antonio, Xabi and Alvaro are NOT listening to the same music, if you look closer you can see that the other headset is hanging down Xabi, not in Alvaro’s ear.

  22. January 13, 2012 00:37

wow, that gif of Xabi is lovely, though I stared at the picture of his concentrated look even more ❤

my favorite Ruud-Cris moment ever was in the portugal-netherlands match, after all those fouls and sending-offs, when they hugged each other. Love them both.

Can I just say that Callejon is quickly becoming one of my favorite players AND personalities?

My favorite post-game moment was Sergio greeting Santi Cazorla (who is just so adorable) and walking off with his arm around him. So cute.
And, watching the goal, I knew that Iker was going to head straight for Willy Caballero after the game. I felt so awful for Caballero–it was such an unfortunate error, and he otherwise had a couple of really solid games. I’m glad we moved on to the next round, but we would’ve done it without that goal, too.

    Oh, aaaand…a good 45 seconds.

  27. January 13, 2012 04:43

ohhhh … iker … that gif … i … ohhhhhh. *wide, wide eyes*

and slo-mo sitting up xabi — madre mia! how is it possible to have so many beautiful men all together on the same team!?

other beautiful things: kaka’s profile, benz’s cute little grin and wave, arbeloa.

like you, una, i love all the camaraderie with the opposing teammates. it’s one of the major reasons why i love football over all other sports; there’s much more sportsmanlike conduct and genuine and sincere friendship across lines going on. 🙂

i LOVE the signs! hilarious (and apparently effective, too!). i’m making a mental note for my trip to spain later this year! jajaja!

    gracias, as always, una! x

This is a perfect post Una! These are my favorites: Karim’s bottle and the boys, Kaká’s beautiful face, Xabi’s sexy face and the guy who would trade his girlfriend. That is hilarious. One thing I noticed though about the picture with Xabi, Arbeloa and Sergio, that while on the picture Arbeloa does seem to be attached to Xabi by the earplug, Xabi’s earplug was hanging, but it is secured somewhere on his shoulder area. But on the gif, as soon as the picture is taken, they both seem to step the opposite direction and are just too far from each other to still be listening to something together. So when did Arebloa detach himself? And the other is thing I noticed about Cris, at the line up when they shake hands with the opposite team, he shakes hands, and acts polite, but you can tell that he is just want to get it over with and he is so ready and eager to get in the game. I love this team and I loved the two ICYMIs. Thanks

I have to say that I was really impressed when Iker went up to Willy after the game as well as his comments. Willy looked totally gutted after the goal and I’m sure it meant a lot to him to have Iker commiserate with him.

I also loved the commendatory before and after the game. Saw this live and thought how great are these guys? And the Sergio/Santi moment after the game….adorable! I just love how these guys can be friends before and after the game and be rivals during the game.

It wasn’t the best of games but as the saying goes, “the great teams know how to win even when they don’t play well.” Hats off to Malaga though. I’m glad to see them playing so well.

Thanks again for the great post, Una. Well I should say “posts”.
