Álvaro (accidentally) broke Iker…
… and the media is estimating that he’ll be out from six weeks to three months (various sources; I am hoping Marca’s estimate of two months is another of its lies). Madrid’s medical report merely states that Iker had tests done at the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital which confirmed that he had fractured the base of his left thumb, and that he’ll be evaluated once again by a specialist to determine what type of treatment he’ll have. AS, meanwhile, says Iker will be operated on this Friday.
If our captain is out for a period of two months, he’ll miss of course Liga games, including possibly the clásico during the first week of March; the two Copa del Rey semifinal games (Jan. 30 and Feb. 27); and the two games against Manchester United in the Champions League (Feb. 13 and March 5). ¡Vamos Antonio!
This is what Iker said after the game: “I realized that something wasn’t right the moment I got hit. I have no idea what I have. It just hurts and when I move the index finger there is a noise. I hope it’s not anything. I felt a strong pain, as if I had broken something.”

FYI: this was only the second time that Iker left a game due to injury. The previous time was during the 2004-05 season, against Betis, and César took over for Iker.
Start praying for another of those San Iker miracles! And…

Very appropriate way to end the post. I needed that after the news about Iker. 😦
I hope the team AND the fans rally around Toni, he is deserving of all our support AND respect!
Really don’t know what to say except ‘please get well soon’. 😥
Normally, Sergio’s bottom would right all wrongs, but this, no. Broken Iker = broken heart. And with United and possibly 3 clasicos coming up… I just cannot.
Poor Alvaro. I suspect one of the worst things that happens to a footballer is when he injures another player. And it being his captain, Saint Iker, must be even more difficult. Hoping for a speedy recovery!
Uff, after all that Adán-Casillas debating. This, my dear friends, is fate.
Vamos a ver…
I am so upset about this. Hell. I’m crying. I hope that Iker gets better soon.
Jajajajjajajaajajajaj !!! That thigh…. Ay, por Dios!!
¡Animo Capi!
LOL, is that Sami?
Thanks again, Una!
This pretty much sums up my reaction: http://nooooooooooooooo.com/
animo, iker!
it’s just too bad this had to happen just when he was back to fighting form. i feel sad for the team and a bit scared they’re facing barca for the copa without the best 5 men. sigh
Iker’s hand… 😦
Sergio’s thigh 🙂
When I heard the news I almost cried. Not to San Iker! Captain of Real Madrid and La Roja! Animo Iker!!! May you make a speedy recovery!!! Hope you make it back soon for RM and in time for the ConfedCup! I can’t believe 12 weeks :(!
Also, maybe it’s the pessimist in me, but already with all the goalkeeper speculation, and Iker’s beginnings in RM (I believe) and La Roja due to unfortunate accidents to the starters, I hope this does not mean the beginning of the end to Iker’s starting role… (No offense to Adan). Ok I’ll stop now…
Gracias for the injury update una!
Madrid’s signing of Lopez is really a slap in the face to Antonio though, should they make the former Sevillan player start in Iker’s absence.
Why is it a slap in the face? Jesús doesn’t have the experience yet, and if something happens to Antonio, like when he was sent off against Real Sociedad, I would want to have a Diego López on the bench. The competition will be good for both of them.
Poor Iker :((
the photo of him in hospital broke my heart.
i just … can’t. this whole thing is so horrible on so many levels. gutted. 😦
