Álvaro (accidentally) broke Iker…

… and the media is estimating that he’ll be out from six weeks to three months (various sources; I am hoping Marca’s estimate of two months is another of its lies).  Madrid’s medical report merely states that Iker had tests done at the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital which confirmed that he had fractured the base of his left thumb, and that he’ll be evaluated once again by a specialist to determine what type of treatment he’ll have.  AS, meanwhile, says Iker will be operated on this Friday.

If our captain is out for a period of two months, he’ll miss of course Liga games, including possibly the clásico during the first week of March; the two Copa del Rey semifinal games (Jan. 30 and Feb. 27); and the two games against Manchester United in the Champions League (Feb. 13 and March 5).  ¡Vamos Antonio!

This is what Iker said after the game: “I realized that something wasn’t right the moment I got hit.  I have no idea what I have.  It just hurts and when I move the index finger there is a noise.  I hope it’s not anything.  I felt a strong pain, as if I had broken something.”

FYI: this was only the second time that Iker left a game due to injury.   The previous time was during the 2004-05 season, against Betis, and César took over for Iker.

Start praying for another of those San Iker miracles!  And…
