summer plans

April 13, 2013

Marca has some news on Madrid’s plans for this summer!  Fans in Turkey, Sweden and the United States are in luck, while those in Asia will have to wait.

According to the newspaper, the team will once again be making the United States, concretely the campus of UCLA, its headquarters for the pre-season.  Before traveling to the U.S., Madrid will be making a stop in Istanbul to play friendly matches on July 22 and July 24 against Galatasaray, plus an English or German team.  Then it will be on to Goteborg to face PSG in another friendly.  And then on July 28, the United States stage will kick off.

Madrid will play four friendlies in the U.S.  The first will take place on Aug. 1 in Los Angeles.  That will be followed by games on Aug. 4 in Phoenix, Aug. 7 in Washington and Aug. 11 in Miami.  On Aug. 12, the team will return to Madrid and finish out the pre-season in Spain, where they will (fingers crossed) hopefully be preparing for the Supercopa de España and the Supercopa de Europa.

Any of you going to make plans to see Madrid?

The newspaper also reports that Emirates is set to become the shirt sponsor next season, after paying 24-26 million euros a year for that privilege.  The presentation of the agreement will take place on April 30, and the contract is reported to be for four seasons.  Bwin will continue its link with the club, but as a secondary sponsor.

Unfortunately, can’t make it to any of these *but* I recently found out that Spain will be playing Ireland in NY:

What I’m trying to figure out though is if the main squad will be playing or not. My sis seems to think so (she said it would be practice for the main squad ahead of the Confederations Cup).

Do let me know if you have an inkling on whether or not the main squad would be playing this game.

Yes, the main squad will be playing because the two games in the U.S. are the warm-ups for the Confederations Cup, and the team will travel directly to Brazil from the U.S.

Any concrete dates for games in the USA yet? I’m Canadian, but I watched them in NYC last year. Would love to do another trip.

the rational part of my brain (1%) is trying to convince the other part of my brain (99%) that it would be INSANE to go to sweden for the weekend to see RM play PSG. the thought of iker, becks and zlatan all in the same ball park is too delicious to pass up …

i’m hoping to see spain play in NYC in june, and am hoping to maybe see the washington match, too. maybe phoenix. miami if i can swing it. *sigh* i don’t know.

With Madrid, there’s no such thing as insane! I’ve done lots of crazy things for the team, and many fans have as well!

I’m going to watch the game here in Sweden! So, so happy and excited about it 🙂 A trip down to Gothemburg (Göteborg) wasn’t initially part of our vacation plans, but what better reason to make some rescheduling than Real Madrid..?

I’ve traveled to Madrid(2), L.A., NY and DC to see Real Madrid. I really hope this report of them coming to Miami is true. It would be great to see them in my home town.
