top 10 moments of La Décima (III)
Xabi Alonso’s celebration of Gareth Bale’s goal – he jumped down from the stands, and sprinted onto the field and straight towards the scrum of celebrating players – was epic, legendary and really worth it, for the importance of that goal. But it also cost him.
UEFA subsequently handed Xabi a one-game suspension for this celebration, which would impede him from taking part in the upcoming Supercopa against Sevilla. On Friday, UEFA rejected Madrid’s appeal (the club said the suspension was disproportionate to Xabi’s actions) and upheld the suspension.
It was great to see Xabi being all impulsive and letting his emotions carry him, as he is usually so calm and collected.
Nacho also jumped down from the stands to go celebrate with his teammates on the field, but as he isn’t as well known as Xabi, he was detained by security on his way back to the stands. As everyone’s attention was focused elsewhere, no one even noticed he was missing. As such, Nacho missed the rest of the overtime, including the last two goals.
OMG poor Nacho! That’s crazy! I had no idea that happened.
it is so, so funny to see cool, suave, sophisticated, elegant xabi LOSE. HIS. $HIT. it’s hilarious in the best possible way (although, so unfortunate that it cost him … bah). i don’t think anyone suffered more than xabi that day, even the players on the pitch! :-p
