Zinedine Zidane at Vogue (and for Mango)

Zinedine Zidane has been in the news recently, and not just due to the controversy over whether he is properly qualified to coach Castilla.  In recent months, he has joined Instagram, been named as the image of Mango Man’s spring/summer 2015 line, and made an appearance in Vogue España.

Here are the images from the Vogue shoot, which resulted from Zizou’s collaboration with IWC Schaffhausen.

And here are some choice quotes from the accompanying interview.

On his style:

I know it doesn’t look that way, but I do like fashion, I care about what I wear and I like to have classy things.  I don’t like “bling bling” things.  I don’t like earrings.  And I would never wear a bracelet or a ring.  Only my wedding ring.  That’s sacred.

On his four sons, all players in the cantera:

I’m happy that they want to follow my footsteps.  Moreover, if kids play football, they won’t be doing other things, stupid things.

On joining Real Madrid:

We were having dinner, and Florentino passed a napkin to me that had the words, written in French, “would you like to play for Madrid?” on them.  I told him, “yes!”  It was one of the happiest days of my life.

On playing for Real Madrid:

(It wasn’t easy in the beginning, no?)  No, I felt a lot of responsibility due to the expectations generated by my signing.  But it turned into a fantastic era.  As a player, I was given the opportunity to win everything.  Moreover, there were some really nice guys, such as Raúl.

Watch a video from the photoshoot here.

And here’s Zizou doing an excellent job modeling from Mango.  He just exudes elegance and class, no?  Reminds me of Xabi when he was a Real Madrid player.
