Remontada:

1. Rising or recovering after overcoming a difficult obstacle.

2. What Real Madrid will do tonight, just like it did in the past against Derby County, Inter Milan, Borussia Mönchengladbach or Anderlecht.

It’s time to add Borussia Dortmund to that list.

Operation “Remontada” is in full swing, with Madrid releasing this video of the players telling all the fans “you are our strength” and asking for their support on Tuesday.  I’m 110 percent behind my team, ready to cheer my little white madridista heart out on Tuesday, how about you?

all set for Atleti!

April 27, 2013

Just a short post today… it’s time for another derbi madrileño (20h)!  I hope Madrid can get a confidence-boosting win to give them momentum going into next week’s Champions League semifinal game.

This is MFC Álvaro Borja Morata Martín at the age of 13 during his days in Atlético’s cantera (via Marca).  On that day, April 16, 2005, he and his fellow ballboys went up to Carlos Kameni after the Atleti-Espanyol game to ask for his gloves.  ABMM has always been a madridista, but his family decided that he would join the cantera of Atleti because the training grounds were closer to their home.  He left the club because he wanted to play more, and the head of the cantera there said he’s a wonderful boy and has developed a lot as a player.

in the mood for a remontada

Santillana is synonymous with remontadas, having participated in some of Madrid’s most famous ones during the 1980s.  AS interviewed him after the Borussia Dortmund game.  If you don’t believe that Madrid will make it to the final on Tuesday, you might change your mind after reading this, because you will understand what players wearing the escudo of Madrid are capable of.

How did the legend of the remontadas start?

With the game against Derby County in the 1975-76 season.  We lost 4-1 there and in the Bernabéu we matched this result, the game went into overtime and we scored another goal.  That’s when the remontada began to mean something, and it was with the support of the public.  Around 120,000 people fit in the Bernabéu and they made you leave your soul out there.  We pressured up above, we made hard tackles because back then the referees let you do so… and no matter whether we played well or poorly, we were able to tell the rival, “here we are!”

Yes, the result was quite unexpected, but I’m not giving up on La Décima yet.  If anyone can make a comeback, the type that will be talked about for years to come, it’s Madrid.  I have faith in this team.  Somos el Madrid y vamos a luchar hasta el final.  It’s not impossible or improbable, merely difficult.  As Juanito once said, “Noventa minuti en el Bernabéu son molto longo.”  We will have the “espíritu de Juanito” on Tuesday.  ¡A remontar en el Bernabéu!

all set for Borussia Dortmund!

April 24, 2013

Madrid takes on Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals tonight (20:45h).  If you think back to La Séptima, you’ll remember that Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals that year, and that the first leg game will forever be remembered for the collapsed goal.  Now, 15 years later, all madridistas are hoping that Madrid can once again beat Borussia to bring home the long awaited for La Décima.
