admit it, you got breathless too
Well, Mesut Özil decided to brighten up our weekends with this self portrait. Equally as fantastic was Álvaro Arbeloa’s response: “breathe, Turk, breathe.”

I think other players should follow Mesut’s brilliant example…
Edit: thanks to Henrik for reminding me how it used to look, which makes it all the more impressive.
the Sergio book – Sergio without boots (II)
Happy Friday!

Memories of his brother, René.
I am eight years older than Sergio. When I was 15, I played with Camas’ juvenil team and he spent all his afternoons with me. He was always playing, and always playing with older kids. Everyone talked about him because he was very short but very fast, and he scored many goals.
¡Oh la la! ¡Varane!
Look at that: six Barcelona players and none of them can contain Rafa Varane (it probably helps that the combined height of the three on his right is more or less equivalent to Rafa’s height). Rafa was colossal on both ends of the field on Wednesday! ¡Partidazo!

Some random thoughts on the game, since I lack the time to make a game post…
all set for Barcelona!
Ahead of tonight’s Copa del Rey semifinal first leg game and yet another clásico (21h), we had visits from Roberto Carlos and Mahamadou Diarra. After hanging out with the team at Valdebebas, they had lunch at Mesón Txistu, where this adorable scene took place.

RC: We played very well together, you always provided the perfect coverage for me. MD: Yes, always, I played almost as a leftback, because you were always up there…
sunshine needed…
We have a very important game coming up on Wednesday, and we have to be positive and push aside all that negativity ahead of it. We need (Marcelo) sunshine! So, here are some adorable moments from recent days.
Roberto Carlos paid the boys a visit at Valdebebas today!

adding fuel to the fire…
Last week, Marca reported that during the lunch between Florentino Pérez and the two captains, Iker and Sergio had told the president that if Mourinho continues as coach next season, various players, including some of the most important ones, would ask the club to consider offers for them. The article went on to say that the relationship between players and coach had deteriorated and the situation had reached a boiling point. That same day, FP convened an extraordinary press conference to say that “it’s completely false that the captains gave me an ultimatum regarding the coach, or anything like it… what was published was a lie.” Later that day, the club released an official statement from Iker and Sergio, which said “we want to show our support to our coach, José Mourinho, for whom we have the greatest respect,” and rejected the use of their names for “such information that we label in its entirety as false.”
Now, Sara Carbonero, journalist and Iker’s girlfriend (and contributor to Marca), has come out to say, among other things, that “as we all have seen, the atmosphere in the locker room is not good at all” and “it is widely known that the players are in complete disagreement with their coach right now. There is a division in the team…” during an appearance on the Mexican program “La Jugada.”
ICYMI – the big fun edition
In case you missed it – Real Madrid vs. Getafe [2013-01-27, Liga jornada 21, 4-0].
I like how we are going into the Copa del Rey semifinal first leg against Barcelona! We have momentum, confidence and heart!
ONE. Sergio was the captain for this game, with Iker out. He made his return after serving the four-game suspension he got for insulting the referee against Celta in the Copa del Rey (the Liga games against Osasuna and Valencia, and the Copa del Rey matches against Valencia; he’ll also miss this Wednesday’s game due to the two yellow cards as this type of suspension has to be served in the competition it occurred in). Anyway, he was looking good both before and after the game!

You know, I think I rather like the early games! I’ve had “big fun” each time so far!
